For everyone asking deeper questions about this theory, I am working on a fanfiction based on this. It will be called "Friendship is Sadness: Equestria after Twilight"m, and it will be a 10 chapter long story that'll go a LOT more in depth onto how different characters react to this. It will be released on my Fimfiction page (link in the description). I'm currently working on the first chapter, and I'll try to release an excerpt or prologue to the story as soon as possible, but i'm going to be busy for about a month after my next video, so I don't know when it'll come out. However, i will be releasing another video about this theory sometime between this weekend and the next which will talk about how the other Kingdoms of Equestria would react to this, and a lot of questions will be cleared up there.
If you have any questions about the theory itself, respond to this comment and I'll do my best to answer. This isn't me trying to stop questions, in fact, keep them coming, i can use them to plan things in the story. This is just to help clear things up and make it easier for me to respond to comments.
I would assume Equine civilization declined similar to the Roman Empire or worse where the society of ponies degraded which in turn caused magic to start getting lost. In addition, another factor for this could be ponies not just blaming each other, but also the other species that were being inter-graded into equine culture, which may have caused a loss of said culture and traditions that were solely made by ponies. Twilight, being obsessed with friendship, purposely relied on using that mindset to bring every single creature into harmony, but it backfired on her and ponies started to find her to be a traitor. Thus would Twilight be forced to create the 3 crystals and strip ponies and everything else of magic. In the end, Twilight became her own worse enemy and died not long after the collapse of Equestria.
Amazing theory! I wasn't even thinking of how pony culture would affect this whole thing. Most of the new changeling traditions are based on pony traditions, and that would just make their situation even worse than it already is (poor changelings). And you're absolutely right about the ponies blaming the other tribes, it would not only decrease the friendship between the tribes, but from all of Equestria, which would quickly lead to a problem.

in the discord comics, Discord said that Twilight created the crystals to protect the ponies from an evil unicorn (who most likely is the same Alicorn as the one from the end of the Make your mark special), but I don't really understand exactly how making them would help. My theory is that she made it sort of as a safety precaution, so that if it ever happened again when she was gone, the villain (as well as the rest of Equestria) would lose magic.

After the crystals were created, the fact that the other kingdoms are all angry at the ponies could make it so that magic would disappear exponentially after the pony tribes divide.
well they do show death with sunnys dad so i think they would and just think there all dead by the time of sunny unless there some time travel to the past in g5 to save twilight and her friends
It's true, Argyle is confirmed dead, but the tricky part is that Alicorns are supposed to live for a very long time. Twilight, i believe, passed away, but as for the other princesses, i'm not sure. They should be able to survive for that long, yet they're nowhere to be found. That's yet another mystery we have yet to discover
When you brought up the “Twilight will not outlive her friends” tweet, I thought you were gonna say she k!illed herself after everyone else died
of course not! sure, she may be gone, but that doesn't mean i want her dead any more than anypony else does. i just focus on the facts (and emotions whenever i can), and so far, we have no clue as to how Twilight died, and i dont think we'll be getting any soon
Great Theory, it definitely sounds plausible
Well, given the state of things as shown in the movie, any theory about what happened would have to be at least a little bit sad. Twilight being dead and gone forever would be disappointing to me, since it would be interesting to see her interact with the new cast and tell the story of what happened from her perspective, but other people would prefer for her character to be left alone and not brought back in G5. And making theories about it is fun, but there are too many missing pieces and the ones we do have don't even fit that well together, so I'm getting kind of tired of it at this point.
I see your point. At the end of the day, there's just too many pieces missing, but it's still fun to speculate on what happened. I myself have mixed feelings about this idea of Twilight being dead. On one hoof, it's the most logical and realistic step for the show to take, but on the other, I really want to see her again. I made this theory based on what I think is most likely to happen, not necessarily what I'd like to see. In my opinion, I think Twilight has passed away by the events of the movie, but I also think she and her friends will still show up in the new series multiple times as flashbacks and easter eggs. I also think we'll see many of the secondary and background characters from the show. Who knows, maybe Lyra and Bon Bon end up creating a shop together or something, and I'm pretty sure that Derpy created a mailing service that has a billboard/poster in Zephyr Heights. Either way, what happened exactly it's still up to speculation, and I can't wait to see what the show has to offer.
I wouldn't take what Lauren Faust said about Twilight too literally. Twilight wouldn't necessarily perish before all of her friends do and could still live out a natural lifetime. And remember that Faust was not the showrunner for the majority of the show's run, so what she said about Twilight's mortality might not matter in the end.
While that is true, Faust wasn’t in charge for most of the show, I still think that most of what I said would still happen. She may not have been the lead, but the show was based off of her ideas. It’s true, the devs may have changed things after she left, but she would still have to die at one point in history, even if it wasn’t before her friends. Meaning that Equestria would still react similarly to how I said it would. I’m also releasing another video sometime this week that’ll go more in depth to how Equestria itself would react, wether or not she died before or after her friends.

Hasbro also seems to miss one important detail when all three tribes of ponies go separate way....
The WENDIGOS, where are they? They're suppose to appear when the three pony tribes are separated. So, where are they after all the pony tribes break up? Do another catastrophe made the magics in the entire Equestria gone? What about Tirek, Cozy Glow, and Chrysalis? Will the three of them got freed since they're magically petrified? Or what if it kills them and turned them into a real statues for eternity?
It's just so mysterious and dark. So little we know about how gen-5 Equestria was a thing.
I believe fellow theorist Sawtooth Waves has a video on the Wendigoes, but as for the Legion of Doom, I believe they were able to free themselves, but were powerless once out. Tirek wouldn’t be able to suck out magic when there isn’t any, and Cozy won’t be an Alicorn, so she’ll lose her magic-related powers, although she’ll still be very manipulative. Chrysalis, however, actually has a chance. Since her power is based and powered on love, not magic, she should still be able to keep her powers as long as she can feed. And considering how old she is in the comics, she could still be alive for all we know. The difference between her and the reformed changelings is that they need their love to be given to them by someone else, while she can just steal it. While the changeling kingdom may have trouble, she should have a pretty easy time staying alive, though she won’t have as much luck with conquering Equestria now that it’s divided.

I wrote a fanfiction on fimfiction where the magic vanishing was already happening at a slow rate but not to equestria it happen already to a land called stirrope (pony version of Europe) where the medieval pony kingdoms of stirrope have been drained of magic for 1000 years the poniesbod stirrope are tough witout magic. My story
deals with the horrors of medieval warfare and the the trails twilight must go thru to save her kingdom and future and to help stirrope waring pony kingdoms to end their long wars.
Stirrope iS the source of magic vanishing. Part of the reason is stirrope long history of constant state of medieval style wars between its kingdoms. Their is more to why magic is vanishing. Twilight will have a chance to stop it. But then rhe question is can she.

Also Starlight glimmer when she did try to change time to prevent the main 6 coming together she caused the creation of stirrope existence and the eventual loss of magic.
The ponies of stirrope kingdoms are also not one race each their all mix they also are racist to non ponies but not pony races. They really don't like non ponies as they killed them off in stirrope long ago.

Eh, I'm just say its alternate universe since we Twilight in her old form rather then the one shown in the last problem. It just doesn't feel right as a sequel in my opinion.
I have a better theory. The real reason that Twilight's Reign ended is because the magic was being drained away. I think it had to do with the Mane Six not passing the elements to the Cutie Mark Crusaders. That was the first mistake I found when season eight began. That explains why Cozy Glow came into the picture and plotted to drain all the magic of Equestria. The Student Six stopped her. But the magic began to drain during that time. The second mistake happened when the CMC aren't at Equestria Assembled. That caused the magic drain to continue until the events of G5. I believe that the events of G5 was the result of separation of the Mane Six and the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
Interesting. I never thought about that. Though I think, if anything, the Elements would be passed on to the Young 6 instead, considering that they have a connection to the Tree of Harmony. However, if Cozy has succeeded and just no-one noticed yet, Magic would continue to be drained into Limbo. But even then, I'm pretty sure that the Princess of Friendship would notice, since Friendship = Magic and that she's been studying magic her entire life. Also, since Friendship = Magic, even if magic was sucked into Limbo, as long as there is friendship between creatures, it'll regenerate. The reason this didn't happen with Cozy's plan is because she divided everyone against each other, meaning she weakened the friendship of Equestria and it wasn't able to regenerate.
I still stand by the fact that Twilight wouldn't let friendship disappear as long as she was alive, which is why I still believe in my theory that everything fell after she passed away.
Excuse me But what about luster dawn and her friends aren't they the mane 6 or something?
@@ronaldpagar6513 2:13 well, based on their ages in The Last Problem, and since all that division had to happen within only 2000 years, I don't think Twilight would have enough time to train Luster Dawn as a successor.

we know that an Alicorn can live for more than a thousand years, since we saw in a flashback Luna fighting with Celestia 1000 years before the show started and Celestia doesn't look any older now than she did then. Also, we know for a fact that Twilight would never let Magic/Friendship die the way it is in the movie. Based on this, and the fact that she cant outlive her friends, Twilight had to have passed away shortly after the events of The Last Problem, and since that's when Luster Dawn started learning about friendship, i don't think she'd be made into an Alicorn by the time Twilight passed away.

That has been a long standing theory among the fandom, and one that makes great fanfics and animations like Remembrance, but i've never looked at it like this. Considering that the post about about twilight not outliving her friends was made a very long time ago, the story may have changed, in which case you may be right
So something I want to bring up because I see other people talk here about theories, but I do NOT SEE it mentioned much ever is equestrian magic from season 1 to 9 of g4.
There are many signs magic is VERY out of place in equestria that we do not discuss: essentially, equestria is already a world with dying magic or low magic (my fantasy standards)
1. Magic is the most illusive element and comes from the old english word fren (friendship) meaning to love. Friendship is actually quite rare and those with it tend to habe problems: this is why the mane six are so important, and friendship is tied directly to magic's power. Twilight and Cadance are both different kinds of love, but to celestia, exactly what equestria needs (which is why luna will retire so fast)
2. Most ponies only know one or two spells, usually tied to their cutie mark. Even with study few unicorns have much power (Twi, starlight, sunset are the major outliers) Trixie is a show off but she and rarity are likely the pinnacle of pomy magic. -- that is really bad. Even in worlds with no magic, techniques (asthetics, architecture, engineering) roughly are as magical. Ponies are barely getting by.
3.not going after tyrantlestia, but she makes a lot of info unreliable. Granny smith can supposedly recall a thoussnd years back, but discord only mocks this and only alicorns and an old mares tale tell us its been 1k years. Celestia seems to be feeding misinformation: luna was likely not gone for 1000 years, nor was discord imprisoned for 1000 years. Based on the mane siz aging, it was more like 50 or 60 years. This is an important point because we can look at the 3 tribes and see there was unity, yet in a very short time (equestria is only a couple hundred years old given this) all unity was destroyed and equestria has gone from a few freinds being happy repelling supernatural forces to several friends needing hail mary passes and artifacts to do so.

I could go on much further; but these key ideas present to me that something is very wrong in equestria, and i conclude the crystals might have been twilight trying to solve problems.
I personally favor s1-3 Twilight died/vanished and the tweet refers to this, as well as alicorn twilight is an imposter, but that is an entirely different theory.

One Major Note:
Megaen is not Hasbro. She was recruited to work on the writing team and gained massive power. If you went to conventions however (and were active in the fandom prior to 2014) most of the writing staff distrusted her and disliked her, and the fandom itself tended to hate hwr for trolling. It was a very long time before anything she said was taken as canon, and that was only after she pushed out anyone who oppossed her in the development team. The discomfort of having to be around her is so obvious on the faces of others at panels with her, you can see rhey physically seperate from her and are uncomfortable when she is around. She tended to visciously target anyone who opposed her ideas of (destroying faust's mlp) and remaking the show post s4 and 5 into her image of how things aught to be.
Her opinions were dubious at best, but as she pushed more of the hardcore ingroup away, others like her tended to come to have more and more power, which gave us more and more splits as the show diverged even further from early s2 and s3 splits we already had.
MLP definately benefited in length from having her, but the quality of having her is such wide variance. No "older" bronies from before tirek or alicorn twilighr would dare trust the woman, and she is responsible for most of rhe pariahs among the writing team taking power from those who fought for the shows core values.
Tl;dr:
1. Equestria is a low magic world, twilight's last problem fixed is luster dawn, she is likely scrambling to fix other issues.equestria is in grest peril
2. Megaen cannot be trusted to make herself a sandwich much less anything she tweets and anyone who has been a brony more than 8 years knows this.
First of all, long paragraphs are completely fine with me, it means that someone's enjoying my videos enough to give a lot of feedback.
As for your "Equestria's magic is dying" theory, I LOVE IT! You bring up several points that I don't see people talk about. I've been re-watching "The Dragon Prince" on Netflix, and it makes sense. Comparing the two worlds, Xadia has a lot more magical architecture and just overall magic in usual when compared to Equestria, and thats not even mentioning other fantasy worlds. And they do tell us that most unicorns don't know a lot of spells, usually only those that help them do their job.
And the fact that Celestia barely aged from when she banished Luna to now has been bugging me for a long time, and I usually took it as a sign of how old they can get (which I assumed was VERY old, since she didn't age at all compared to Twilight in S9). But now you bring up a good point: how come she didn't age for 1000 years when Twilight looks completely different after only a few decades? You're right, it IS a theory for another day, or in my case a few weeks.

As for the quote from Magaen, thank you for letting me know. I am still relatively new to the fandom, only joining around 2018 or so, so I wasn't aware of her actions. Personally, I'm a HUGE fan of seasons 5 and up, but I didn't know the history behind it, and now it makes me sad to hear that it wasn't what Faust intended it to be. It certainly doesn't seem right for her to have used her power like that, removing those who opposed her, it sounds exactly like Chrysalis, and that is something that should never happen. I wasn't there at any of the Cons to see how the other staff acted around her, but I'm sure something wasn't right.
As for my theory, i believe it is still possible for her to have passed away before her friends, but now it seems a lot less likely than I previously believed.

Seasons 1 through 3 tend to be close to fausts vision, aa ahe still had creative control even though she had mostly left. That largely ended in season 3 when M.A. Larson took over.
If you look at con archives and find his panels, you can see that he prscti ally looks like part of him died giving in to hasbro (and indeed, in 18+ panels he would more freely discuss his.... "preference businessmen do business and writers do writing" which is pretty strong wording.
Season 3, but mostly 4, through 7 dis a lot of worldbuilding and was set largely within the world faust wanted, but it was NOT her world anymore. If you look online, the MLP bible shows she had to make a lot of concessions (some are VERY good ones, we wouldnt even have Princess Luna without hasbro)

Seasons 7 through 9 are where you had a lot of outside influence that knew good dealing decisions, but that took the show in a more "we know how long we want this for" direction. There was a certain finality to it. Until season 5, we never knew if that was the last season or not. Starting with WOW glimmer, we had a set direction and its not my cup of tea, but I enjoyed what I watched.
The single biggest issue is the writing staff changed twice over during 9 seasons, anf this causes development and writing to take sharp turns that made weird sense in the long run.

Wait, why CAN'T Celestia and Luna just come out of retirement to rule Equestria again?
Well, if Twilight passed away, that means that other Alicorn’s can also die, and both sisters are extremely old, and would be close to that point. Celestia is already a fully grown alicorn, and Luna is close to it. If they did go back, it wouldn’t last very long, not to mention they’d both be hit very hard by Twilights passing, and would struggle to rule like they used to

1, Opaline probably did something to prevent Twilight and the other alicorns from coming back, like trapping them in limbo like the pillars.
2. based on how angry Opaline is at Twilight, i take it she has some unfinished business. Key word being unfinished. Maybe Twilight herself did something to hide herself and the other Alicorns in order to prevent Opaline from using them to her cause. Although this would imply that they would have to watch as Equestria separates
Either idea works. Personally i like the second one more, although I don't know why trapping yourself would be better, or even how they would do it.

I was working on my next overview video of MYM and i talk about the barrier, but I hadn't thought about what could be outside of it. and maybe the other kingdoms are there as well? Its something to think of, especially if we want to find out why exactly the tribes divided in the first place
I'm really upset at how they set G5 up. How the comics show what happened to G4, to Discord, to the old Equestria really made me very sad and all of their sacrificies for nothing.
It seems destroying the past is the only way you can "create".
I get it, a lot of things have changed, maybe too much. And that's coming from a guy who loves change and seeing a new generation sprout up. The time-skip left so many questions, and we don't even know if we can trust the comics or not. And the way that they said that Twilight made the crystals makes her look like the enemy, like she locked up magic to control the tribes. And that doesn't seem like something she'd do. I know it's not the whole story, but still, not a good look for her.

Please allow me to state my theory:
Hasbro, with full knowledge of the Brony community's history of child endangerment and perversion of the source material, grew tired of the community's existence, and in order to keep them from utterly destroying their I.P., decided to have G5 in a new direction.
G5 was created with some loose elements of G4, but created new elements that would completely throw off the members of the community. Hasbro wanted MLP to go back to appealing it's intended child audience, and hopefully destroy the community and it's emotionally-stunted adult members in the process, but like cockroaches, they persisted & it's presents can still be noticed to this day.
Long story short: the community should have disbanded when G5 started, and the I.P. of MLP will continue to be perverted until the Hasbro finds a way to completely destroy the community and it's members in the process.

So, the tweet said that “Twilight will not outlive her friends”, which in other words means she won’t live longer than her friends, which means she dies before them. However, I just recently (last week) found out that the person who sent the tweet changed a lot of the show, so it may not be true, though it makes for an interesting theory nonetheless

We’re unsure if g5 is an alternate universe. Despite all the discrepancies in the show, we haven’t seen anything that directly goes against g4. Although I’ve heard the theory that g5 is part of an alternate universe, I chose to not believe that theory, and instead try to find explanations for the things we see in g5
