      This was my first time there, but I want to go back. I hear that Red Creek and other waterways nearby are great floats, too! I hope I get to check them out soon!!

    Man! That really looked like a great trip! And another great video, added to a great video series. Reminiscent of the Perdido River. Thanks for sharing!

    If you're going to float in Mississippi I recommend doing the Chunky River.

      I live in North Alabama and I drove over the Chunky on the way down. I joked to my friends that would be a great river to do on the name alone...lol! But glad to know it's a worthy destination! I'd love to know more about it!! Thanks!! Dan

      @@SouthernPaddler From the put in point at Chunky, MS to take out in Enterprise, MS is about 20 miles. There's a few areas where the river gets shallow and there are "rapids" to keep things fun and a couple of sand bars that you can camp on along the way. Finding a good spot for a hammock may be challenging. The scenery is mostly hard wood, clay banks and wildlife. On the lower half of the river you float under the haunted Stuckey's bridge and past Dunn's falls water park. Which gives you a great view of the falls and the old mill. A river depth of 3 - 3.5 ft is the most ideal time to go but anything from 2.8 - 4 ft is doable. The water is mostly honey brown but when conditions are right several areas have clear water. Eventually you'll end up in Enterprise where the Chunky and Okatibbee join to form the Chickasawhay River. I haven't had the opportunity to float beyond this point but I've been told the scenery just gets better the further you go.

    Love the videos.
    I’ve got a few questions. How does your canoe do with you sitting in the front seat backwards? Is it stable and comfortable?
    I had a 146 and riding in the back by myself was fine but I’m a big guy and it would sit down in the water and sitting in the middle was unstable.

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thank you so much! I've sat in the front facing backwards just a few times. If it's empty, that's definitely going to give you a better ride. I only move towards the middle if it's shallow (keeps the stern from dragging) or maybe through rapids (keeping a lower center of gravity). But I usually have enough camping gear to keep the front weighted down enough that it handles and tracks great with me in the back and I weigh 250. Second, I have a bad back and I REALLY like the seat-backs...which is not only why I mainly sit in the back, but also why I love the Saranac so much!! I know there's lighter and generally "better" canoes, but the comfort of my Old Town Saranac has gotten me through hundreds of miles of paddling!! :)

      @@SouthernPaddler same here bad back and the support is awesome. I’m thinking about going with a Saranac 146. What do you think? I weigh more than you about 300lbs. Do you think I could trim it out and it work for me solo?
