  • It is the greatest show on turf! The annual 12-hour Lawn mower race.
Here is some archive footage from the 2003 race when the event was well attended and much fun was had by all.
Endurance racing is the most challenging competition for both drivers and cars. There are several high-profile races in the endurance championship, including the world-famous Le Mans. The Five Oaks race in West Sussex, England, is not one of them.
This particular series is dedicated to lawnmowers. You know, those tools are used to chop the high grass in the backyard.
Back in 1973, an Irishman called Jim Gavin came up with the idea of lawnmower racing. He even helped set up the British Lawn Mower Racing Association (BLMRA), a group that from May through October each year organizes endurance events at venues across the country.
Over 50 teams lined up on the starting grid in Le Man's fashion, ready to drive all night along a makeshift course covered not in tarmac, but grass.
The competition is structured like any other endurance race in the world. It sees drivers race on the circuit by taking turns behind the wheel, it uses pit stops for refueling and eventual repairs, and eventually, a winner pasted the finish line.
