    I share my house with Hunstman spiders. Even give them names, I've only had one at a time. They are harmless. They kill other insects including cockroaches. They don't build webs. They are cool. Once they come into the toilet though they do get put outside. I have my limits. :)

    I love the Huntsman spider. I feel blessed they live in my home. They keep the nasty spiders in control and run around really fast, I think they are very smart. One as big as that one in the video, used to come over and sit on the wall near my chair every night and I would say hello. I think she watched tv with me 🙃

    Our huntsman spiders are beautiful gentle, shy and timid creatures. NEVER killed in our family. We grew up as kids with one in our room named Herman, I used to let him run up and down my arm, he never bit me. My mum names all of hers in her house, they kill the flies that sneak in. I am the spider catcher in our family as my 6’ tall big son is terrified of them but I love them. They are lovely!!!

    About 20 years ago I was driving down my street into the sun so I pulled down my sun visor. Biggest huntsman I have ever seen ran down the inside of my windscreen. I punched it but missed, but I cracked my windscreen. Broken windscreen, I was pissed.

    There's a species of huntsman spider near where I live called the "mango spider", as it likes mango trees, and their legspan makes them the size of a large dinner plate! Saw one myself.

    I don’t drive a lot, and I’ve got at least 2 Huntsmen living in the Car, that I’ve seen in the Door Jams, and there’s also always a bit of Web stranding to clear off the Dash. I just do a quick Visor check each time, and hope for the best. 😅

    The only way you could die from a spider is when you are driving...and a huge huntsman crawls out of the air vents and runs up your windscreen right in front of you while you are on the road. That has caused a few fatal accidents as the driver freaks out and loses control of the car..

    Yeah huntsmans get huge but most people i know dont mind them inside as they kill alot of annoying bugs.
    I personally like to name tge ones that come to my house as i think its just rude not to be able to address them by name when i say good morning to them when i see them.
    They will tend to sit above your head while your sitting, i think its because humans attract mosquitoes and being as close to people as possible gives them a better chance at a feed.
    You dont see them much in winter (cold) but see heaps in summer.
    Ps. Its considered bad luck to kill them especially in your home. Dont know if it's true but can definitely can say its bad luck for other bugs if you dont kill them.

    The Huntsman inside the car handle is unusual. But better outside the car than inside right? And they can move 1 meter (about 3-4 feet) per second. You die of shock before they even reach you however. Tilly

  • @kirra72
    @kirra72 Před 8 dny

    Aww, c'mon. They're not dangerous. At school you'd put your hand in front of one and when it crawled onto it, you'd spin around and ask a classmate "Do you want this"?
    You learn early. If you came across a trap door spider's trap door, or the deadly Sydney funnelweb silk around a hole, you'd be "Let's get a stick and poke it down the hole".

    There is no reliable source for this picture.
    It may be a giant huntsman spider native to Laos, (most huntsman species are native to Asia). They are also prevalent in Africa, Australia and South America. They also live in some warm American states such as Florida, California and Texas, and, according to the University of Florida, it is presumed that they were introduced from Asia. Folklore stories claim the spiders travelled from Asia in boxes of bananas, and because of that, they are sometimes called banana spiders.
    Now have a look at these: (The like of which few if any Australians have ever seen.)

      Yeah true. Seems like we here in Australia see them so often its just known as an Aussie thing.
      Ive been through Asia, did a lot of climbing and remote treks, rarely seen a big spider. But trekking and climbing here in Australia i see them everywhere. Millions. Especially on the paperbark trees. Huge ones.

    • @mackash
      @mackash Před 10 dny +1

      And that photo could be a cgi, but there is no need to fake a photo here in Australia regarding huntsmans, that is a legit size. Ive seen hundreds that big. We call them dinner plate spiders for a reason.
      And the size is terrifying, but the speed of them is even more frightening. They are super fast. And they bite if cornered. And it hurts worse than a wasp.
