Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.
Together Mariana, my father Clinton and myself, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!
In this episode we welcome you to join us in early summer time as we are given a tour around a bargain farm house, which is for sale, in a rural mountain village in central Portugal.
We begin by walking up the long private dirt track, which gives fantastic access to the farm. Lined with trees and a beautiful granite stone wall and a lovely, large iron gateway, which is the entrance to this wonderful farm. This is where we begin the virtual tour by introducing ourselves as we explain the location of this wonderful gem of a farm and a little about the surroundings and local amenities.
As we enter the gateway Mariana talks about the long driveway and says that she saw a bunch of little rabbits when we arrived, they all quickly scarpered into the undergrowth when they saw us. I talk a little about why the farm has been abandoned for so long and then about how one could go about installing calçadas as a driveway to the farmhouse, I speak about the pricing of this too whilst on the way to the ruin.
Once we discussed the house a while I decided to take a short walk around some of the land, whilst walking down the lands sloping hills we talk about the nearby villages and what they have to offer. Sao Fiel can be seen not too far away and the church steeple sits above the village in a beautiful fashion. There are public swimming baths in that village and it is a short walk away. Soalheira boasts numerous amenities, namely a school, restaurants, fire station, police station, cafes, mini markets and more!
Next we head back off to our own farm, via a café for an ice cold drink, as it really has warmed up now. Upon arriving at our farm it was lunchtime already, so we fired up the BBQ and cooked a couple of beautiful rosefish in an oriental sauce, a truly beautiful recipe!
After lunch I took a stroll up to the sheep barn, where I take a peek at our beautiful ewes who just had their wool shorn off last week and they are looking rather dashing indeed. Then once entering the barn we take a look at our pigeon loft, where we see yet another new little squab, pigeons really reproduce quickly and it is quite evident that they will be a fantastic addition to the homestead!
Have an amazing week everybody and I look forward to seeing you all again next week!
See our journey to self sufficiency / permaculture / organic farming living in Portugal, trying to produce as much of our own food planting vegetables, growing fruit trees as well as looking after all our animals, such as our chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, quail, rabbits and sheep - Shortly pigs too!

Awwwh, bless you Irina, thank you so much!! I agree, a very nice village indeed!
Lovely, Joe.
I love Mariana's English accent. Lovely land at a fair price. Have a great weekend.
Thank you Tony! I totally agree about the price, very fair considering the size and legal ability to construct throughout the whole farm. Much love my friend!
… And thank you, she has a lovely accent doesn’t she?!
I bet your pool is getting some usage right about now. Your farm is so beautiful that every other property pales in comparison.
Awwwh, bless you my friend, our farm was in a similar condition when we first bought it, overgrown, not lived or worked in for many, many years! It took time but we are starting to turn it around again
@@Farmerforfun It’s hard to imagine that your farm was in a similar condition. You turned it around very quickly. Maybe, if it’s not too personal, you can recount your story of finding it and how you tackled the many chores. You are a good storyteller.
Such a wonderful video as always watching to your beautiful videos are amazing. We are happy and playing is such brilliant. Have a wonderful time. A great show. Well done Joseph and Mariana. Congratulations. God Bless You
Thank you so much my dear friend! Much love to you, as always!!!

@@Farmerforfun you show some amazing land/properties. I'm looking in France or Portugal. I was going to email you today but have not had time. I will email you
Joseph why not giving us a surprise video where you are asking your sweet girlfriend to get engaged to be married 🎉❤looking forward
Hi Joseph, Great video. What could one expect to pay per m2 for construction. To an 8/10 sort of standard. Trevor
The coimbra state seems very popular on the property channels. Is there a specific reason for this? We are looking for a property in Portugal to spend about 3-6 months a year in. Maybe take a D7 visa, etc.
I've been impressed with the quality of the fish you've cooked. You are located a bit from the ocean. Are there fish mongers in your village??
I'm sorry, I have to ask how tall Mariana is? Joseph you said that you are 6'2". A very nice life that you have built there.
💯
Whom do the cattle belong to? Is that holding for the cattle on this property or someone else's. Rabbits ! That's just what I don't want. - except to put in the pot, if they're not too wormy. Nice looking red brass fish. Sounds an ideal place to live.
do you guys check yourselves after the video for ticks? walking on high grass like that you must collect a few
Amazing!! You really inspired me with this video! Thank you... just what I'm looking for actually. Now my mind is occupied...lol...
What are they additional costs about to that 70000 euro price? Does Portugal also got 10% fee of the price as do Spain? In Sweden its only 1,5% for the Deed...
Regards Rickard from Sweden 🇸🇪
Im following a few CZcamsrs like yourselves.. OK farm, Cindy Wine.. and that Dutch guy etc... very interesting community you have there now... I'm driving down to your place in october and hopefully will be exploring the area...😊🚐🛻 i drive either my van or the pickup with home made camper. Rickard🇸🇪
Hi there Rickard!
the fees are not too much on top of the asking price, legal fees can vary widely depending on who you use (I have always personally used the same lawyer here local to me, very professional and reasonably priced!). A couple of thousand on top would cover the lot
@@Farmerforfun thank you very much Sir. Rickard🇸🇪
Hi Joseph and Mariana and family enjoyed the tour of the farm soil looks a little sandy but would make a nice place to live, fish looked tasty like all your food all I have today is plain old pork sausages boring.
Thank you my dear friend Robert! In my opinion a very nice farm, I hope you are having a lovely week, pork sausages sounds very appealing to me!!! 💕
Love the recipe 😋! I could taste it already🤣💖. Sour, Salty, sweet and spicy...yum. very appetizing 😁😋😋
Joseph, how are your friends that just bought a property which you showed us sometime ago? The one that got a dog from a breeder?
Hello there! Thank you so much, I tried to throw in as many flavours as I thought would work together! They are ok, they have learned a lot about the area here now and are trying to explore as much of the culture as they can!
@@Farmerforfun
Haha...you have an interesting life.
Nice land ! I was wondering, what would it cost to build a new house of 2 storey about approx 150 square meters ? 4 bedrooms and all the electricity, gas, water, heating in place ? or can you guide me to a house builder website in Portugal ?
Hi Joseph, I can't find you on Fb would you mind sharing a link please? Much appreciated. Marek
Hello Joseph !! Nice plums and lovely sheeps !!Some questions about economical surving in Portugal ...Do you know how much money you earn from the cork oaks per kilo ,how much from the pine wood etc And how much from the orange ,lemon trees because they are very cheep in the market .Thank you and i m waiting for your answers
Hello there!
Depends massively where you are, prices fluctuate greatly in agriculture depending on what the local market is like - cork have a good value but you need many of them to make decent money, same as pine realistically. Oranges and lemons will never earn a lot per kilo, you need many trees to make a living with them.
@@FarmerforfunHello Joseph. I know the prices for oranges and lemons in the market 0,50-1 e per kilo and i imagine that the producer earns 0,10-0,50 per kilo/but do you know- in general- how much is the price for cork oaks -per kilo ,per tone etc -just about -not specific .I Know that they hair-cut them every 10 years -so how much is the profit??/if you dont know ,can you ask someone else who knows???
@@donnacosta5633 thank you for your specific answers /but i see on youtube many videos from young people that they chooce to live and make agriculture in Portugal. And Joseph says that his Farm with all the things he does,he makes the expenses of his farm and he is not a big farmer. So with all the things around olives/pines/corks/sheeps/chickens /cherrys etc it isnt possible to earn a diccent income???Hobby agriculture is for rich people all over the world and this is the System all over the world for big farmers .There is no possibility Portugal be an exeption in all of this????The Prices that you told me is the official prices but here in Greece workers work for 30euros per day -for the days is needed.Waiting for your answers...
Hi guys, i'm UK based. If i wanted to buy one of these properties/pieces of land what would be the minimum deposit? (25% for example like a UK BTL mortgage deposit)
Could you put up the prize at the beginning plz
hello what do you mean by, rebuild, extendf or build where you want on the property?
Aren't there any rules, limitations in Portugal?
As long as it’s not farming land you can request permission to build anywhere in your land.
How far do you guys live from that farm and what's the condition of the well?
About five kilometres as the crow flies… Apparently the well is in excellent condition, I have seen it from above and it has a lot of water!
How to manage the sewage in the farms in Portugal? Are they treated?
In a case like this you would have to buy and place an septic tank, i guess. The cities and villages mostly have sewers (pipes) in the streets.
So, not on this road i think, and also if they were on the road (or under) the house is not next to the road.
hello from Australia, I hope you are well, I would like to ask,
If I was to be interested in buying one of the properties that you show,
do you arrange all the legal work and fees, and proof of ownership, etc,
thanks , you have a great show
Hi Joe! I certainly can do, I know people in all the relevant offices etc and I can get everything done for you, I don’t charge anything either by the way, it’s just a pleasure to help! 😊 💕
@@Farmerforfun thank you, it is very kind of you, I will get back to you and I will keep watching your videos to check out the properties, all the best to you both
Hi
Is this property still available? Does it have a habitation license? Can a Mobil home be put on it? Who do I contact about it?
Hello there, yes it is available, it does indeed have a license for habitation and a mobile home can be put on it - I am the first point of contact, I can put you towards a lawyer or if you already have one I can get the paperwork sent to them 😊 Just email me at farmerforfun@outlook.com
Hi.. is this still available? We will be in Portugal mid Nov?
We arrive in Portugal in mid November.
Y do u have them so far for your house and what the perps of the pigeon s
Hello there Cindy! It was more convenient to house the pigeons in the sheep barn as I already have straw stored there, a roof for them to keep dry and a nice place to store their feed too. The purpose for them is meat as I am one hundred percent self-sufficient in poultry products, so this gives me more of a varied meat source from my own farm - plus they are free range, flying round the farm and gathering part of their own food, so a nicer way to eat meat :)
Hi Joseph, Can I ask if this is still for sale please?
Hello there Robert, it certainly is, send me an email my friend, farmerforfun@outlook.com
Is it still available
Hi Joe & Mariana, most enjoyable vidio always a pleasure to see what you are up to, it looks very hot , enjoyed your cooking as always , keep cool ,love to you all , xxx💗💗
Estimated building costs?
Based on other builds I’ve helped with 60,000 to get a really nice build
Drought?
That coriander really looked like parsley !
Noooo, definitely, definitely coriander :D
Has this sold?
hi Andy! it’s still available, you can see our current property list at www.farmerforfun.com 😊
What would be a realistic price
Hi Joseph why you didn’t talking about price and I have a question what about coustomer please if he was from other country , has he problem or no ?
Thank you
I did mention the price, both in the video and in the description (first line). What problems would you expect? I am not sure I understand
Yes I am looking for land here with a fishing lake inbox me if you have thanks
Have various on my website :D www.farmerforfun.com
Is it generally safe being in some isolated places
Portugal is a safe country with not much crime going on. One of the safest countries in the world.
On the other hand, being alone on a farm. Most people have one or two dogs. Also to keep away wild animals.
Portugal has less crime than Germany France England Netherlands Belgium , and much much less than America.
The Trees are gone - the hole property is not the same as it was on the little movie
What on Earth do you mean I only filmed it a few days ago?! You must be talking about a different place
Seems a lot of money compared to other properties that you’ve profiled ?
My mistake … I thought it was 90k
Hi, does this land have habitation permit ? Ruins are agricultural support buildings can’t be lived.
Hi, they are not agricultural support buildings, it is a ruined house that can indeed be lived in
I though, no solution of water problm there..
No solution? What about a borehole... 40 euros a metre and you are guaranteed to get water living so close to a mountain
