This weekend Spawn Wave made a poll on twitter and youtube asking if gaming is in a rut lately and so far in 2024. Even tho we have great games like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth things have definetly been quieter but in this video I respond to the idea that gaming itself is all bad right now. - Hry
How do YOU feel about gaming in 2024? Thanks for watching! I am VERY sick today so I appreciate you clicking the video and showing some love.
My condolences Dreamcast and I hope you get well but yes actually no gaming in 2024 is actually good because I'm playing The Witcher 3 much love.
xbox is stuck in a rut, ps5 doing great as usual
I don’t care what anyone says about his grenade impacted teeth or his disturbing meth addiction. PlayStation King Dreamcastguy is the Chosen One and he guides us, his loyal PS5 team, on the path to true Sony success. That’s right, without his guidance & meth mouth wide open thumbnails, we would truly be lost. We stand with you! Go Dreamcastguy, yea!!
Dream cast guy, make a video talking about DEI. If you can do a video, didn't it? Then you'll have my respect but if you can't you just another mouth talking bullshit.
@@stardustdragonx3612 do not talk to Dreamcast that way be merciful that was uncalled for
When ur 6-12 months behind the industry like me, u dont notice it😅...Still playing thru many 2023 games
Yeah my backlog is huge
Exactly, I can't even keep up anymore. I already have enough to play for years to come, and will always be able to buy my "new" games on sale and in a polished state 💟🌌☮️
Lol right?? Same here
💯💯💯
6-12 months!?!?!?! I got games from 2019 in my backlog.
Anti consumer always online drm is killing gaming.
The year isn't even half way over yet. Why the doom and gloom?
Because hardcore gamers are notoriously negative and impossible to please.
Fr in february everyone was saying how amazing all the games were already 🤣
"content"
he wants views for the algo and by end of month lmao
@@fattiger6957 You're acting like having standards is a bad thing.
Gaming is boring. I constantly play older games. Nothing new is original. Just bad copies of better titles from before.
It’s all fine unless you’re terminally online. I have a backlog as does everyone else. Online gamers want to be perpetually angry
Exactly. Even with new games, there will always be good ones coming out. There may not be many, but there is always something to look forwards to.
Exactly. He makes this video every year.
It's old and tired.
Agreed
I don’t play EA games or COD. Ubisoft is tanking so bad. There are like, 10 PS5 exclusives, and Naughty Dog doesn’t even have a PS5 game ANNOUNCED, let alone scheduled for release. So many remakes and remasters everywhere. Yet, here comes PS5 Pro, or some fancy headphones, or a device to play my PS5 somewhere else in the house.
As a primarily PS gamer, I’m just seriously BORED. Even the PS5 exclusives that we do have, they just aren’t that great, at all. I mostly use my PS5 to stream shows or CZcams, and play PS4 titles from my backlog. It does these jobs well, but is not why I bought it.
Back to my Nintendo Switch…..
I second that emotion! So bored.
The Crew Motorfest is currently getting review bombed on steam.👍 Ubisoft and their anti consumer policy's.
This is the worst generation for PS. By far. And it won't ever get better because Jim Ryan set way too many things in motion before he left. It's pathetic how every single Naughty Dog game this gen is a remake.
PLAYSTATION HAS VERY, VERY LITTLE TO SHOW THIS YEAR???
What the hell, man? Helldivers 2, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, etc. THATS JUST WHATS OUT THIS FAR! That is 5 major exclusive titles in just 4 months! That’s a REALLY AWESOME lineup of exclusives for just 1/3 of the year! Ok yes, the rest of the year might look somewhat meager, but there are still some major third party exclusives like Silent Hill 2 Remake and there is the already announced first party game Concord. We KNOW there will be more titles for the rest of this year to be announced. Like I said, the lineup for the rest of the year won’t be as strong as the first 1/3, but that doesn’t mean it is dismal.
As for Xbox, ummmm bro, WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THIS DEAL THAT MOST OF THEIR LINEUP IS COMING TO PLAYSTATION? That’s a load of crap! Only four Xbox titles have been announced for PlayStation and none of them are anything huge. Ok yes, it is doubtless that more will arrive, but I doubt we’re getting major brand new Day 1 Xbox titles soon. Definitely not in 2024. In the future? Maybe! However, nothing is guaranteed.
This article just WREAKS of click bait. Look, 2024 might not be as big as some previous years, but I think people should save the lamenting and commiserating. At least until AFTER Xbox and PlayStation have their respective major presentations for this year.
As for Nintendo, it’s not really fair to dump on them right now, as they are in a major transition between hardware gens.
How you gonna use Spawnwave data and then duck the Spawncast every weekend? 🤔
He's not allowed on it anymore since he brings the show negativity
If we are talking about backlogs, mine will take me years to finish. I don’t have time like I used to to play more
The last two years have been insanely good for games and it's hard to stay amazing. If gaming's ever in a rut, play an old game. There's so many good ones.
You brought it up, but a lot of these people are content creators, not casual gamers. They need the hottest, newest thing to stay relevant and I don't care about that stuff.
2022 was a dogshit year, only one good one in AAA segment was elden ring
Shut up@@kirillansimov3184
Dragons Dogma 2 came out exactly one month ago and not months ago.
I was just thinking that as he said that and read your comment lol
I literally was thinking the same thing 😂 maybe he meant to say weeks
It’s people complaining for the sake of complaining. Yes, Ubisoft Activision and EA suck, just don’t play their games. There are so many great games both AAA and Indie that is fantastic.
@@josephbuchanan2319 AAA sucks.
It's been great so far, though I wish more devs and publishers would pull a Borderlands and use DRM to enforce street dates on physical copies.
It would reduce the proliferation of spoilers and people complaining about pre-release bugs and would ensure everyone gets the same launch date experience.
No and the idea that it or any year has been bad since the 2010s is a terminally online take that makes me think either the person doesn't play games or only plays the same games
Exactly what I just said
Gaming has definitely been in the decline for a long time.
Exactly I try to explain to people all the time this is literally the best time to be a gamer because of all the variety of games there are now it’s true that AAA gaming is falling off the wagon besides certain devs but retro gaming and indies are becoming more popular than ever now the landscape is just changing especially with emulation apps officially being on apple stores now
@@springwoodslasher79 no I think a larger audience and greater online presence have given it the appearance of a fall off but we're getting generational experiences every year from AAA and indie devs. Not every game that come from AAA is going to be a homerun but when was that ever truly the case? Lots of revisionist history happening from people missing experiences they had as a child and not the games they played
@jmako979 no.. When were talking new games maybe once in a while do we get a decent game but it's rare. Console days are coming to an end ps5 is a joke. Only a few pc simulators can keep me occupied.
Gaming is only in a rut if you don't have a real day job. Normal people are just finishing or still working on games that came out months ago. I for one am working on FF7REBIRTH and still need to beat BG3 and have yet to touch Elden Ring or Cyberpunk.
While we are here Pokemon is an embarrassment. Its solid sales are a representation of how popular the IP is an not how well the games are made
I got a real day ĵob and I have played many games
Playing shitty games don't count as a job.
Agreed
To me, gaming just isn't what it used to be. I feel like the golden age of gaming was in the 90's and early 2000's
Do you still game or did you had to give it up?
@@user-zd1oc3pz8sI still game. I just don't think the games of today are as good as those games from that era
And what's killing gaming is the dark plague of anti consumer always online drm.
Fully agree with you, the game nowadays are just nowhere near the level of the early 2000 era, the remakes are really saving gaming if I’m honest and some indie games!!!! Highly recommend trepang2 it’s so much like FEAR hopefully that franchise returns one day🙏🏾
Corporate capitalist greed is basically just making junk over and over hoping to only maximise profits. The games i've been playing lately has been remasters of old stuff like roller coaster tycoon 1-3, turok 2, tomb raider 1-3, fallout 1-2. The only new games I like are indie ones that create thing people actually want.
Dreamcastguy: "The old stuff doesn't just get instantly deleted".
The Crew gets out of the chat.
STOP KILLING GAMES!!!
It's the year of the backlog! Still catching up on all the games from last year.
He says dragons dogma 2 came out months ago 😂 literally been out like a month
I'm on my Switch playing so many games. I've got farming games, turn-based RPGs, and all kinds of stuff to keep myself busy. I'm eatin' good in my house.
Max, I get it... Spawncast can be much with how chat and comments are, but this is an opinion you could have shared on Spawncast last saturday when it was low on co-hosts.
Nintendos been killing it. Holds up Pokémon scarlet and violet
LMAO, exactly. Clownshoes moment
Holds up tears of the kingdom and mario wonder 🙂
@@MrSkullMerchanthe didn’t hold up either of those. He held up a xenoblade chronicles and pokemon scarlet for some reason. Odd choices to hold up when he could have held up MW or TOTK
@@RasTrey69 exactly, strange choices, allthough xenoblade aint bad
Started off great BUT for games I’m interested in after stellar blade they have not announced anything I’m interested in so far.
i only play older games i never play them when they first come out, i have so many great old games to discover for the first time.
One of the best years in a while if you are a JRPG fan.
Absolutely. JRPGs and Metroidvanias as well. We got a crazy amount of great ones this year already. I'm still trying to catch up (just beat Infinite Wealth after more than 120 hours, lol). So when comes to these two genres.. 2024 might already be ahead of 2023, which had its fair share of gems itself.
Yakuza 8, Unicorn Overlord, FF7 Rebirth, DD2, and P3R all came out within a span of the first 3 months of 2024.
HOW IS THIS YEAR IN A RUT?
FOR WHO?
Come on the spawn cast and discuss it
I think 2024 has been great so far.. tekken 8, FF7 rebirth, yakuza 8... but I suspect it will slow down.
Playing The Witcher 3 myself great game and so much to do
It's not bad, but after 2023 it's definitely not a great year so far. FF rebirth is super niche, and Yakuza and Tekken are even more niche. We had some nice stuff come out like d. dogma, palworld, prince of Persia and ronin but they're all just pretty good games. I think they're all cooking up stuff for later this year or maybe we're just having a slump and that's okay.
@@ulissesjunior5280 helldivers 2 been number 1 on steam for weeks with hundreds of thousands playing daily its a game thats deffo not niche and quite amazing tbf, dd2 has had to many problems to be classed as good, palworld died after couple of weeks and no one even mentions it, persia is bargain bin game at best, stellar blade demo played great, hopefully whole game is a gem
We got DLC for GOW and FF16 . We're getting DLC for elden ring and spiderman 2 this year also
@ulissesjunior5280 I would not consider FF7 a niche, like wtf? 🤣 It's literally one of the biggest franchises and names in all of gaming history. Unless you consider every single thing that's not a shooter "niche"
I still have a backlog of games and prioritizing new ones like Stellar Blade to try them out - then there’s Elden Ring DLC. I dunno I feel like I game a lot but maybe I don’t after all and/or I just suck and take too long to pass a game? I do have a lot of other hobbies as well so that changes things a bit.
2024 so far is pretty dry but nowhere near as dry as 2022 when the only game that released all year was elden ring.
Gaming has been going down past 10 years. The dumbing down has killed it for me.
It's a remake of a game that's almost three decades old....
2023 really was GREAT! We had 1 great game every month!
Now my wallet says Elden Ring in June, Wukong in August and then we wait for 2025.
I just spend 3. Months playing rebirth persons 3 reloaded and like a dragon now dragons dogma complete rubbish that no games are out
@@adthomp Rebirth was Mid (Far Cry + the ending), P3 was a remake. Dragon’s Dogma/Rise… yeah I’ll give that one.
But what about now? Like I said, only 2 games on my radar (stellar for this month too).
2023 was on another level. From start (Hogwarts Legacy) to finish (Alan Wake 2/Lies of P). Every month there was a game to play.
Gaming is a personal hobby however. We all have backlogs to clear. Gaming can literally die for 2+ years and I would still have games to keep me busy. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to have constant heavy hitters.
After the Momenumental year that 2023 was, You cant expect 2024 to have the same amount of Bangers. Where is XBOX? Aren't they supposed to be dropping Bangers every 3 months or something? Where are the games?
23 wasnt that good it had some awful games too
too me it was a very mixed year
also hasn't xbox released more 1st party games than playstation over the last year still ? i notice not many people attack playstation for having bad years but if xbox does it everyone gets angry
Pokemon Scarlet...Lomao😂
Yeah I'm on point with everything you said, mainly because I also have a backlog of games to play, but I do think the gaming industry as a whole is in a slump, with it currently trying to find its equilibrium between development cost and sales.
Especially with the money from investors and investment groups drying up, I think Publishers & Developers typically take a reflexive approach to passing the lost Revenue on to the innocent customer, instead of optimizing their development approach to cut the costs and get their houses in order.
But until that's fully done, it'll be interesting to see if this is just a temporary Gap in game development and game releases, or if the dry spell will continue far into next years game releases?
The current vibe feels like we're in some kind of vacuum at the moment, especially with this year's Financial Fallout that happened within the gaming industry itself. Again, the real question is it only temporary for this year's gaming cycle?
Your point at around 9:15 was so on point. Gaming can't be solely focused on the here and now when there are so many amazing games that people haven't even touched yet that were from years passed.
I for one am playing some of my Old Tales of series (vesperia right now) and am looking to start the Star Ocean series soon too. In between that i mix in modern games that got released lately. Gaming is filled with highs and lows for release years and sometimes we dont realize hidden gems that were released till years down the line. Just like other hobbies like reading, there is always something for someone out there even if it's not a brand new release.
I do kind of miss the days when games like Perfect Dark where made by small teams of 20~ people, sometimes it feels like AAA games are to big.
First off, I hope you feel better soon Dreamcastguy. So to address your question, just from my perspective, I would say 2023 was a pretty good year in gaming. Now my opinion on some of these games is quite limited given that I haven't upgraded to a next gen console yet, ie the PS5 or Xbox Series X or S. I think my new console I get first will be the Xbox Series X or S, but yeah otherwise my current gen console is a PS4 slim. For 2023 I got to play RE4 Remake & Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Also although it wasn't released for console in 2023, Freedom Planet is a notable new game I bought last year which I actually haven't beat yet. I also have a good sized backlog of games I either need to beat or, like Shadow of Tomb Raider or Dead Rising ect. Plus other games from 2023 that I didn't get to play because they didn't release PS4 are Hi- Fi Rush, Armored Core 6, Alan Wake 2 & Dead Space Remake. All or at least some of these games I would have played if they were released on PS4 & I can't count Xbox One since I've never owned one. As for 2024, I look forward to finally getting an Xbox Series X most likey, although I'm not ruling out getting a Series S yet. Till then I'm mostly enjoying the games I have on PS4.
In fact today I'm gonna buy Part 1 of the Mega Man X Collection & I'm also gonna grab Outlast 1 & 2. The Spring discount sale on PS4 & I would assume is the same on PS5, ends by midnight for 4/25, so yeah go grab those games if you'll want. Outlast 1 & 2 are only 1.99$ each now & I believe both parts of the Megaman X Collection are 4.99 if I'm not mistaken. But yeah as whole, I look forward to some big announcements from these game showcases. I'm waiting for the next Resident Evil game to be revealed, which rumors say it'll most likely be RE9.
I guess for 2024 it's a bit slow on big releases, although the PS5 recently got FF7 Rebirth & Stellar Blade. Also if Silent Hill 2 Remake ends up releasing this year then that's definitely another big one, although I believe that one is gonna at least be a timed console exclusive on PS5, perhaps up to 6 months to 1 year would be my guess. Then that kinda leaves what big exclusives can Microsoft release for Xbox Series X & S as there haven't been any big AAA or notable releases for Xbox in 2024 yet imo. Hellblade II is coming next month is the next big exclusive for Xbox, but then what after that? Xbox is supposed to have their own showcase I believe sometime in May or June, so I'll be looking forward to that.
2024 has been really good so far. FF7 Rebirth, Tekken 8, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade looks like it will be a banger. And we're still in the first quarter
Robocop, terminator, 76 and no mans rise, grounded, ff7, and a multitude of small games, and i think theres a lack of drops in the last 3 months but there is SO MUCH amazing content thats its hard to call it a slump. Quality takes time and those gaps will crossover.
Moving from PS2 to PS3 was a terrible time and not even this generation will go that low again
Games don't stop once a new one comes out. The crew: hold my beer
Disagree, I'm playing Enshrouded and Rise of the Ronin right now, great games. We all have live-services or MMOs in the meantime and huge backlogs if stuff would go bad, but honestly no I don't believe we are there yet. Besides, Elden Ring DLC comes out this year so yeah, that's that.
it doesn't help that developers have forgotten about lots of game series like Mega Man, Sly Cooper, Mod Nation Racers, Syphon Filter, Lemmings, Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Spyro, Rayman, Jak & Daxter, Invizimals, Dark Cloud, Knack, and Original Phantasy Star Series and more
So we just keep getting the same game series every year COD, AC, RE, FF, and sports games not to mention the lack of genres & with games having online DRM or locked to a server it doesn't make things any better
Ngl, this seems like more of an issue FOR gaming media and reviewers who HAVE TO look at, play, and cover everything in the gaming industry. As just a regular consumer who gets to pick and choose and absolutely not care about what I don't want to, it's great for me. This exact reason is why I stopped watching both gaming, and wrestling news for the most part. I just play what I want, watch the wrestling I want, and not focus on the extra news/leaks/spoilers for both industries.
I would say something about Pokemon Scarlett but I don't play those games btw m thinking about doing a reaction video to this one if I do may please use bits of this video n the background
Like a Dragon, FF7 Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Stellar Blade, Unicorn Overlord, Elden Ring DLC… this year has way better games than last year I feel. It’s just about what type of games you like best I guess.
Q1 2023: Dead Space, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Q1 2024: Persona 3, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragon's Dogma 2, Stellar Blade
It's all fine if you ask me. I'm eating good this and yesteryear.
I’m just like that one person. It takes me a long time to beat games. And I’m constantly going to my old backlog and I like to replay some of my favorites as well. I’m still playing Cyberpunk 2077 because it’s just taking me a long time to get through it. I’m a dad with a full time job. I can’t beat a game in two days anymore. Heck I bought Tears of the Kingdom day one and haven’t even taken it out of the plastic yet. That’s how backed up my log is.
“i’m a professional gamer”
“dragons dogma 2 came out months ago”
brother.
Reviewers get the games hella early I guess
No rut at all. Y’all are crazy. 2023 was just insane. Rebirth is the best thing so far this year, but it isn’t alone at all.
And you didn't sell too well, did it?
Glazing a remake of an almost three decade old game, and not seeing how that's insane, is crazy.
Umm I played Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,Helldivers 2,Tekken 8,Prince of Persia,WWE2K24 and Stellar blade coming out this week. That’s plenty to keep anyone busy for 4 months so far
I still have NO DESIRE to own a PlayStation 5. I'm looking forward to Nintendo Switch 2, and I think that is it.
It's a good backlog year. I've been playing Unicorn Overlord heavily, so not complaining. I do think some people are talking about the rut, but there is also negative frustration over the the other industry trends like layoffs, remakes, etc.
So many games and not enough time!
I finished my first DD2 play through 150hrs! I took my sweet ass time. I'm currently on NG+ around 170hrs in DD2. I'm waiting for ELDEN RING DLC, then black myth Aug 20th.
Well said, it’s not just the latest and greatest and everything else disappears.
This year alone FF rebirth, dragons dogma 2, pacific drive, balatro, prince of Persia, persona 3, helldivers 2, etc I’m swarmed in great new games.
The crazy thing to me is that almost all these content creators have every console, including powerful PC's, steam decks, oculus quest, etc. and you're still not satisfied??
I don't mind too much, I have a ton of backlog games I need to compete.
Gaming been bad since PS4,Xbox one
Best days of gaming were PS1,PS2,PS3, Xbox OG, 360
90's to early 2000's was the prime of gaming imo
Agree that's why the PS5 going to be my last system and I'm not going any further after that.
@luvstagrind I think the same.
I don't think gaming is terrible now it's just a bit different. We have a ton of games and content right at our fingertips we've never had before. Yea, there's some bull crap with sweet baby Inc and some crappy corporate stuff going on but it's not all terrible. There's still a ton of great games out there.
Gaming has been bad? Who are you people. good god
Lies.
I’ve been playing mostly indies for the last few weeks and this is the most fun I’ve had gaming in a while. Pepper Grinder is a super fun 2D Platformer published by Devolver Digital and it’s one of my favorite games of the year so far. I’ve also been playing Death’s Door, Katana Zero Boomerang X, and Hotline Miami
I don’t think we’re in a bad state of gaming. I think 2023 was so jam packed with games coming out after the peak of the pandemic and games nowadays take a good 4-5 years to come out. I do think this year we’re running into a slower time until the next BIG release but this a great time to revisit some classics. I just replayed the mass effect trilogy and had a great time revisiting one of the goats. Keep up the videos Dreamcastguy you’re one of my favorites on CZcams 😊
I think that it’s been a good year. It’s more that we want more of the same stuff and part 2s of games instead of trying newer unknown titles.
I think the biggest issue is, gamers are waking up and are fed up with greedy, over grindy and broken games!!
The price of the game is not enough for many companies.
And its always the same greedy companies doing it.
Ubisoft, ea, activision, take 2 to name a few.
Just pissing off fans with their bs!
Making games so grindy, they sell u xp boosters, tier skips.
Pay to buy a game, then pay to not play the game.
AAA is a joke!
I’m almost 30 now and I don’t have time to beat every single foe game. It took me about 2 months to beat FF16 and I’m just now getting to lvl 38 on helldivers. The slowdown is actually better for me because I feel like I can catch up on my backlog.
In this down period I was able to clear ton of backlog from ps4 and ps3 era. So personally do not mind slow year.
I've had a great year so far. As an RPG fan there has been great increase in titles and can't keep up(have P3, unicorn overlord to still play among others) it seems people want bangers every 3 months and that's not realistic. Expectations are too high, we can't have 2023 repeat every year sadly. Keep up the great vids dreamcast guy, appreciate it.
I still haven't played 75% of the games released in 2023
I got all the consoles and almost all new games right now I'm playing beyond good and evil ! I don't get this slow year we got a lot of bangers already and between my back log and games releasing and me going back to my fav I got enough
It's amazing for PS5 owners. That machine is always on while i took out the power cord from my XBOX for a long time. I had a blast this year with Rise of Ronin + Helldivers 2 + FF7 Rebirth + Dragon's Dogma 2. All top notch games
I agree with that tweet that you shared. I have a massive backlog of current games. It’s nobody’s fault it’s just life. I work a full-time job! I love spending time with my girlfriend and my two awesome dogs. I love NASCAR, the WWE, plus college and pro football. During the World Series, I watch baseball and the NBA I usually watch the finals. I own a house that I do all the yardwork on. And I love a couple TV series and I like watching movies.
I DO NOT have a ton of time to play games, etc. etc. so I 100% do not feel that the gaming industry is in a stagnant era! That’s just my opinion. Well as an example Jedi Survivor took me weeks to beat. I loved every minute of it, but with life it took me weeks. I could not imagine trying to play games watch sports with kids. That would add a whole other wrinkle. LOL
Yeah I have so many games in my backlog it’s crazy. People that are complaining there’s no games either just don’t like games besides COD or literally have zero life and is gaming 24/7. Someone with a life but still finds about 2 hrs a day to play, I’ve been on a very slow grind through all these games and honestly will probably be fine till next year honestly
Is that Tokyo Xtreme Racer? That was a fun game on Dreamcast and PS2.
I had a 32X, all the moaners don't know what a dry period in gaming is. The industry is dripping in great games, most of which I'll never get close to playing and finishing.
Good. Finally time to catch up on the massive backlog. We admittedly got too much lately.
Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2, Stellar Blade. How many games do these people need? Do they not have jobs? Oh I bet they don’t have a ps5.
Sony has all these Ip back catalog doesn't Utilize them like I would so happy if Playstation 5 came out with a New Socom Navy Seals
facts are that gaming has been on a steep decline since 2018 and is just getting worse, I would even argue that gaming had started to slowly go backwards since 2013 and I do hope the industry does a 180 and gets back to making games as a passion instead of a business model
Yeah gaming is bad right now look at all the lay off i hope gta six come out next year on time for everyone to play and in joy it😊
Pokémon scarlet. I think 2023 was just too big a year to compare to. RE 4 , Zelda, Baldurs Gate, SM2.
That’s an impossible year to compete with. You are always going to have peaks and troughs with this stuff, it’s how it goes.
So I think gaming is just fine. When there is a gap, I can go back to an old classic. I actually had never completed Red Dead Redemption 1 and now I have as well as Undead Nightmare.
Plenty of games to play so no complaints.
My main concerns on gaming are the crazy amount of years between entries , (see Red Dead or TLOU) and the Uber annoying trend towards pay for play and live service.
Great job Dreamcast!!
Gaming peak during the ps3/xbox 360/wii/3ds era. It all went downhill afterwards
I'm only looking forward to NCAA 2025 and Silent Hill 2 remake which is rumored to come out this year.
It is time we accept the fact that not all AAA games are fun or good. Sure, they always look expensive, but, that doesn't cut it for most of the people.
Perhaps it is time that we as a fanbase start looking for outliers. I hope the indie scene gets the attention they deserve. 2024 can become the year that the industry notices that spending millions on bad ideas isn't it.
Gaming is good. Not in new releases, but hardware is better than ever before. Portable you get the Steam Deck OLED, you can mod an OLED Switch, so many game boy-like emulators.
For indoors you can get a PS5 easily now, even cheap second hand…PC you can buy a 3080 second hand and have fun. Emulators allowed on iOS, etc.
Hardware wise, it’s amazing times.
Speaking of which, when are you coming back to the Spawncast? We miss you over there buddy
The Atari 5200 and PS5 are the bookends to my gaming life
2022 and 2023 were bad for me; I don't like every single game that gets released. This year is bad too so far. Performance of games at launch across multiple platforms just suck. We've heard all excuses, from cpu bottleneck to dated gpu, to unreal Engine, intel 13th gen on win10 instead of win11, game development is hard, constant crashes on ps5 etc etc. Let's face it: game studios have gone money crazed and no longer focus on quality both in terms of content and also performance. Many games are missing HDR support. I'm generally very disappointed with most games.
2024 started off strong with FF7, Tekken 8 and Stellar Blade so absolutely not. There seems to be no signs of it slowing down with releases either since Black Myth Wukong comes out this year
I am actually hyped about Destiny 2 Final shape
If you’ve played the games that came out this year you’ll know it’s been a solid year so far
Lets just give some love to our backlog, theres just to much to enjoy there❤
Not a ton to be excited about?! Stellar Blade!? Shadow of the Erd Tree?! Black Myth WK?!
I’ve spent all my PS plus playing a 2016 online multiplayer for PS4 on my PS5
I bought Red Dead Redemption 2 since day one and have yet to beat it.
Same.. And the rest of the series to boot
What the problem is is that there is no road map for the future of games. Both Sony and Xbox do not have too much revealed on what’s coming next and that is the reason no one is hyped. Just imagine if tm we get a trailer for the next god of war, or wolverine, new IPs, fable, gears, we would all be jumping with joy. There’s not much on the horizon and it’s shitty bc of that. People are finding things to complain about to get out that frustration
You don't know what Pepper Grinder is? I remember when you made videos on Switch indie games. It's fun.
People act like they forget that these games take time to develope...long periods of time. Investors seem to have the same problem, expecting greater and greater return year after year. Hopefully game development will be more consistent the second Part of the decade after dealing with covid at the beginning of the decade.
2023 "THIS IS THE BEST YEAR IN GAMING EVER"
2024 "Is gaming in a rut?"
Make it make sense
there was a lot of bad games in 23 it was very mixed no way was it the best ever most of the games were just remakes and sequels
Its been great for me with persona 3 reload ff7 rebirth and looking forward to metaphor refantazio, smtv vengence, paper mario tyd
Every time there's a off year i enjoy it because i have time to play games from my backlog, i don't stress that much about lack of good new games. Sure it's sometimes worrying like now when it feels like lot of AAA games are failing badly and personally for me also slightly more boring to listen like gaming podcasts when not much happening but still i do feel enough interesting shit is still constantly happening. I don't play pokemon games but i still have hard time believing that would be best pokemon lol.
Ever since I got rid of PS Plus back in September, gaming has been great. Catching up on a bunch of old games and taking my sweet time.
