Thing is - Martha at the very least was planned, and Mickey very likely too. But Freema didn't have time so they scrapped the whole thing. Such a pity...
RinMixx That was the plan for Children of Earth. Martha and Mickey were gonna be involved in Series 3 but Noel and Freema were unavailable. RTD had the plan of having Martha and Mickey appear in both SJA and Torchwood to extend their presence in the Doctor Who world but it sadly never happened due to Noel and Freema being busy with other commitments. That’s why Lois ends up replacing Martha’s role in Children of Earth.
Yeah, for some reason, people seen with Jack in Who don't seem to join Torchwood eg: I'm sort of surprised we didn't see Alonso during series 4.
Didn't feel the same without Owen and Tosh.

Thomas Williams well, if Suzie’s corpse survived the blast then it is possible he survived. Unless the EU reveals he escaped in another story beforehand

Jedi Spartan 38 it hasn’t, but there’s no show to confirm any of the EU material is canon, and considering the show is having to continue it’s story in other mediums it’s possible that that novel is canon

Saddest moment in tv history for me. Toshiko and Owen will always be remembered and greatly missed. This show had so much potential and was so great and was such a shame it didn’t reach its 7/8 seasons like other shows. But in my heart it does, and the characters live on. My Jack, Gwen, Ianto, Owen and Toshiko. Always with you. 💛🤍

One of the rough parts of Torchwood is that just as it feels like the show is really getting ahold of the team dynamic and you're invested... you lose Tosh and Owen 😩 You miss out on getting to see the team really reach their peak together. It feels like the show only just got through the clunky episodes and so little actually got explored. The premise is so amazing. A team fighting aliens in Cardiff with all the history of Doctor Who behind it?? It's why the Torchwood works so well on Big Finish. Because they can tell whatever type of story they like.
Then COE comes and we're getting used to having 3/5 members left. It seems to be working really well... It's a different tone and pace but in an interesting, exciting way! And then we lose Ianto too!
So in the frame of two seasons we lose more than half the original cast with no one to replace them and we're down to 2 main characters and a few side characters. Which just isn't enough characters to sustain a whole show. Especially as Jack is immortal so that limits how they can threaten him... And Gwen just had a baby...
Which meant season 4 had to push a whole new cast and location onto the audience and we're supposed to care about them all of a sudden. The audience ends up only really caring about the characters they've known for three seasons.
I think season 4 would've been much more bearable in its early stages if it had taken a page out of George Lucas' book and introduced every character in the context of someone we were already familiar with. It would've made the new cast immediately easier to warm up to, rather than just feeling like random people who we're being told to care about.

It was *such* a good ending. If you're going to kill off characters, this is how to do it. It wasn't cheap, it wasn't unearned. Just solid writing. Man, back in the good old days before Miracle Day was a thing....

I so hope to god that Gray's body got destroyed in the explosion of the Torchwood base in series 3, the psychopath deprived us all of two greatly loveable characters, Tosh especially a bit more for me. If Mickey and Martha had joined up at the end of Journey's End, they, Jack, Gwen and Rhys would've made the crowning Torchwood team
