Hands-on review of the new 2023 Tudor Pelagos FXD Black for the US Navy Seals. - Jak na to + styl
"The sand on the beaches of the northern Gulf of Mexico is made of tiny grains of quartz crystals that have washed down from the Appalachian Mountains over thousands of years - Those quartz crystals are tiny spheres. When we walk across them, the round grains of quartz rub each other and the air around them escapes. That’s when we hear the squeaking or whistling sound."
I want to thank you for showcasing the area I was born, raised and still live in…Hope you enjoyed your stay and hope you come back.
I love this video. I love the UDT veteran’s story, and the history behind this watch and its design truly makes it special. There’s so much more heritage to this piece than people initially realize.
I think a lot of folks apply a kind of weird double standard: they want Tudor to make "tool watches" which are true to their heritage....but then they complain because they aren't getting funky brightly-coloured offerings with illogical combinations of complications (a dive watch with GMT...? C'mon man!!) Back in the old days when Tudor was supplying real diving equipment to professionals - including for military divers - there was a blue Tudor Submariner and a black Tudor Submariner....and that was basically it! And they were not being changed/updated more than about once a decade, were they? Now it feels like they are expected to reinvent the wheel every year.
People just like to complain. Tudor could drop a watch exactly to their specification and they'd still find something to complain about. A generation of complainers. That's all.🤣
Wait until you meet a Great White in those waters... GMT dive...
Well said. I truly don’t understand the fantasy of a GMT pelagos with some orange markings. The orange markings alone would probably be a deal breaker for a lot of people.
I really like this release. The FXD line is my favorite Pelagos. The red Pelagos on the dial, unidirectional count-up bezel and black dial and bezel color make a very handsome tool watch. Good job, Tudor. And glad to see you got to spend time on a beautiful beach - I love the white sand and turquoise water of the Florida Panhandle.
Proper level production. Keeping us all on our toes. Killer.
Thanks mate. 🙌🏻
I have a MY22 FXD and I love it. I emailed my AD on launch day and added my name to this watches waiting list. I literally got the call today and collected the black version. Its a stunning watch and I absolutely love it, the matt black is perfect and the colour of the strap just makes everything pop. Very happy customer, well played Tudor :)
Tudor did a great job actually having watches available for sale immediately; our AD had an event last Friday night - sold 6 or so in 2 hrs.
@@WestCoastAce27nice, the FXDs aren’t available at my AD
In Europe you can't even add your name to the list for the blue one, let alone the black.
@@ChefPelle exactly, same here at one AD. But another did put me on it. Both told me they get less than 10 a year wnd have “good customers waiting since the release”😔 I’m probably going to go gray for the blue one if I don’t get it in the next half year
I called the day it was announced and before 1pm the next day (last Friday) they called me and said I got the first one. I had no prior purchase history with that AD either which made it all the more surprising
I love it as well. Harkening back to the old school Tudor mil subs pushes a button for me for sure. The vintage Tudor’s have gotten so expensive this is a great way to get the same vibe at 1/4 the cost! Modern movement too.
Lots of people calling this release “boring”. I don’t think it’s supposed to be exciting. It’s a watch designed for military use, not to be a flashy accessory. This has the perfect combination of features. Black, unidirectional bezel, red line of text, US military connection. As the owner of an MN FXD, I’m absolutely going to pick one of these up.
I think it’s boring, not because I was expecting more but rather the amount of press for a color change. Great marketing by Tudor and more power to anywho who likes it, but the coverage feels disproportionate for what I find newsworthy about watches is all.
beautiful cinematography here. I love the story behind the watch, and the bezel on the USN FXD. It just makes more visual sense than the countdown bezel on the OG FXD. I’m glad Tudor is building this line out.
Adrian’s NATOs look far better on this watch than either strap that comes with it.
I also like the grey Nato 👍
Great video. Good location, history of the piece is covered, cool navy dude with a good story, facts of the watch, analysis of what Tudor could have done better, info on why they didn’t do that, great video quality, compressed in to seven minutes without feeling rushed. You are getting insanely good.
And, I really want that watch. I love a crisp black dial with white markers and touch of color.
Wow. Thanks so much Rick. I really appreciate that. 🙌🏻
Living just down the road from where you filmed this I love hearing the squeaky sand as you walk. I know that sound well, feels like I was right there with you. Wish I had known you were there so I could have bought you a pint!
You have come a long way Adrian for talking about the Explorer at your kitchen table :)
Haha. Thanks a lot mate. It’s fun remembering those times.
Great fun Vid! Always good Adrian!
I'm so glad to see rhat video. Looked out for it the last days after your preview. I simply love the "boring" black color with the red text. It is absolutly gorgeous! 👌 thanks for the cool video and hope you have had a great time in Panama City! 👍 see you sunday #AET! ✌️
I love a Scotsman coming to see the gulf coast of Florida. I hope you enjoyed your time in the U.S. and got a glimpse of why we're so damn proud of it.
Saw this watch in person last week. Very nice! I actually scuba not far from where you were. Great watch!
I liked this watch. As you said there is something special on black, manly, elegant, tough. I’m looking forward for this particular watch
Stunning watch imo and, as always, absolutely killer content Adrian. Thank you.
Excellent film, fantastic to see a dive watch in the sea! Loved the old chap talking about his experiences, keeps the context for these tools, in a similar way as to how the Land Rover was designed to be used and maintained. Oh, the watch looked ok too.
Tried one of these and a Pelagos 39 at an AD yesterday. For me the FXD has a more striking, purposeful look than the 39 which felt a bit small and looked a wee bit dull. Love the FXD straps too.
"Time is so important" says the Frogman. That's why we love this stuff. Nice video Adrian.
I was in naval special warfare. In my role our saying was "on time, on target, never quit". Appreciate the content from the UDT vet, especially about the importance of time. He's spot on.
I heard regular seals have a 5 day hell week and ST6 seals have a 7 day hell week...
@@cmatz175well you heard wrong
Welcome to my corner of the world. I live about two hours west of Panama City in Pensacola. Hope you enjoyed your time on the Emerald Coast.
Love my MN23 on various straps.
Like how you used the Marine Nationale video for the US FXD
Awesome video, really cool that you went down there. I can't believe the navy seals are currently using pelagos. Although I wear the black bay 54 it makes me really happy that the watch I own is a Tudor.
i lived about an hour west of panama city, in Destin, same pure white sandy beaches and turquiose emerald water. what a beautiful place, glad you enjoyed it there
Great video, Adrian! That FXD looks boss on your grey NATO.
I sold my regular 42 for the FXD and it was for me personally worth it. It just has more character somehow, but you can’t go wrong with any of them as they are equally great.
Erm…no
@@pureblood8307 erm… k
I have the 42 in blue so I'm excited for the black FXD
I own a Pelagos LHD and since I've owned it I've been of the mindset that I'd always own it. I really liked the MN FXD when it came out and it was going to be a purchase down the line because I don't own a blue watch anymore. But after looking at photos/videos of this watch for the past few days I now know that I will be selling my LHD on and buying this. I think this dark grey FXD has a chance of being the greatest tool watch of all time, if it isn't already. For starters, straps are more purposeful than bracelets. But more importantly, the warm brown/green of the strap is just so perfectly dialed in with the warm hues of titanium, even more so than the ivory plots of the LHD. It's also thinner and loses the date function, which are both positives. Yeah, I think this watch is literally the perfect tool watch. There is no genre of watch that has ever been perfected at an affordable price point like this, but I think that's exactly what Tudor has done here.
Hard to beat the gulf coast rosemary beach seaside etc really cool been many times not a whole lot to see in the water but cool. Watch was nice ..keep up the good work
That was fun hearing from an old UDT bubba. Would love to see more of his talk.
Top video. Love the history here Adrian. Thank you.
I agree on an updated standard Pelagos. Would love the red text
Great video as usual. I was never a big fan of Tudor's snowflake hour and seconds hands, but it's still a nice looking watch. I prefer the blue Pelagos over the black one though. I also prefer the vintage gilt look of the Black Bay 58's black dial with red triangle on the bezel than the Pelagos. Now that's an awesome looking watch.
Instant like for actually taking a ‘dive’ watch under the water.
You can take a £10 Casio under water, nobody is going to buy this Tudor with the intention of using it as a tool for diving.
I have a Ranger, I’m getting a Blackbay Pro next, so yeah… an upgrade to the original Pelagos would be amazing. That would for sure be my third Tudor purchase.
Thinking about getting one this seems like the ultimate watch, only had casio ae-1000w before but would be nice to have a mechanical
I love it the only thing stopping me adding it to the collection is the fact I own 2 pelagus already an FXD and an LHD......I can honestly recommend either to anyone absolutely great watches ❤
Same deal. 42 regular black and blue MN. I like this one too, but it will be redundant. Honestly this was what the 39 was supposed to be.
More videos like this please! And the watch is great in my opinion. I want the Blue one but would take one of each if given them.
Wow I can’t believe those subs are still running. Impressive!
You are totally walking down 30A- thats a great beach me and my family go to every year. I was shocked to see it in your background!
30A was where we stayed.
Great video mate. Loving the white linen shirt too! Very Floridian.
Awesome video! Super well done
I like it. If i didn't already have something in my collection that fits this rugged tool watch niche (Stowa Prodiver) I'd be sorely tempted. I mean, I'm still tempted, but I'm holding out for a not yet released iteration of the IWC Big Pilot 43.
Where did you get the black and gray Velcro strap shown at 4:42?
I absolutely love it. Innovation and features add distinctiveness but either would take away from the tool function. With this model Tudor have basically finished the quest to find the perfect tool watch having previously come very close. They are done I am done. I want this watch and it’ll be my only pure tool watch. It’s the pepperoni of pizzas. No further ingredients required.
What a wonderful everyday quality tool watch the Pelagos is. Really ticks all the boxes and pribably the leader in its segment, except for the Rolex cloud stigma it sits under. Hard to determine if it is a good thing or now becoming Tudors curse to be known as the affordable alternative.
Would love a date function with these updated divers
Looking relaxed and sprite in that nice shirt with a fresh haircut.
Even though summer is winding down that’s the beauty of Florida.
As far as the watch is concerned Tudor is on fire.
Wearing an LHD right now.
Can’t complain.
Great video!! Thanks for sharing thoughts an opinion on this! A P39 with metas certified heart would be crazy. Just disagree why it should have to be also a GMT to be perfect.
Agree on a P39 with a GMT movement in black. 100% I'd buy one like in your picture.
Also the BB58 needs a standard Black and White colour model too.
I feel like they’ll make a BB58 GMT before they make the Pelagos 39 a GMT, but either would be great
@@Bisley1 They need to make a GMT version of this pelagos either pepsi or actually use coke style since so much red in these new releases. The current Pepsi GMT is too thick
Just picked up a CWC SBS diver - seems to me a similar tool to this!
How sweet you went snorkeling. Was the watch OK?😂
Love your work mate.
So i thought one of the characteristics of the fxd was to have the numbers on the bezel going counterclockwise. That one has it clockwise, so what's the difference now with a standard dive watch?
I love this watch
My brother was a dive instructor at the Navy base you’re visiting, and he wore a G-Shock.
It would be nice if you add the link (in the description) for your other video.
The MN version (which I love) almost needed that military connection story because it’s an oddity of a dive watch. This is a normal dive watch with fixed lugs and extra bezel markers so the military connection is nice but somehow feels like it’s not as necessary.
Still like it though… and maybe it’s different enough to have 2 FXD’s in my collection
Can you share which mic you were using for this video?
I purchased a Pelagos a few weeks ago and if the black fxd wouldn't been available at the time, I think I wouldn't purchased that one instead. I really like the military inspired watches.
I love the implication by releasing a "normal" version of this that the FXD lugs might become a Tudor standard. Does it become a proof of concept and spread to other brands?
IMO, the Pelagos is the best, pound for pound automatic dive watch available.
I still think Seiko's are by far the best value dive watches but, how can you argue with the Navy Seals.
@@sinjinadams2862 yes they were... But now for a 1000€+ I expect more quality check from Seiko. They are no longer sub 500€ champ.
I’m 16cm wrist, shall i go with this or pelagos 39? I like the fixed lug but not always loving fabric strap..
A slimmer "regular" Pelagos with t-fit clasp & METAS movement would be amazing. This is what I'm waiting for from Tudor honestly. That and just more METAS generally...put it in across the BB41 line etc.
All good but I am afraid they might add too much bling to it and ruin the theme behind Pelagos. They almost did it with the 39 and the sunburst dial that attracted people who mainly wanted a shiny Tudor more and cared less about the idea about Pelagos. The very same bitch and complain about the Titanium selection instead of something else, which in the end of the day makes me glad they get filtered the same way FXD annoys and filters them too.
Great video man
Although it was a boring release, you made a very interesting video!
Thanks a lot Rick. 👍🏻
I have a black bay chrono 🐼 and a palagos 39, should I still get the tudor red bull alinghi chrono?? or should I move on to something else
4:44 Adrian is that a black and grey Velcro strap from Tudor?!
....what's your view on DWVault (4P, BQ, Sharf etc...) v Richemont?
Tried both at an AD today.
The black does wears "smaller".
The OG ETA Pelagos is the one to get, in my unpopular opinion. :) But if you like this version, hope you can grab one!
The pelagos fxd has been being tested by seal team 6 for the last year. They have custom text and strap colors based on squadron (red, blue, silver and gold) that’s why they added the extra seconds dashes on the bezel. Few images were leaked and the swiftly taken down. Is why the brand loosely advertised the us navy but nothing specific.
What a fantastic commercial for the Tudor FXD! I'm sure Tudor is very happy with this video! Did they sponsor this video? I absolutely love the watch. It is definitely on my to buy list!
Na Tudor won’t like the video. I mention the connection with the seals, show the watch on my straps and say the black is better than the blue. I think hodinkee are the only ones who get sponsorship with Tudor.
@BarkandJack Well, you did an absolutely fantastic job making this video. It definitely made me want to go out and buy this watch!
@@BarkandJackDid you ever go to one of those events and decided that the marketing behind it was too much for the product displayed and decided not to cover it? If not, would you ever do so? (I think that you would and that this one could have been a good opportunity to do so).
“Adults went diving,Kids went snorkeling…” 🤣🤣
What camera set up do you use ?
Are the bezel markers still falling out?
AB- great vid. Tanks. Just put on my "original" Pel MN FXD. I have fallen in love all over again. The blue is different and fantastic. One big question. Why is the original one that colour, and why is each year a different shade of blue?
Because both Tudor and Rolex can’t manage to keep ceramic colors the same year over year, it impacts the green submariner and Rolex GMTs too. Bad tech and bad quality control.
would love to see a gmt matt black pelagos. perfection.
woohoo Adrian is in FL!!!!🙌
A great vid' on the updated FXD, personably I prefer the 'countdown' bezel as it makes more sense in most real world situations? However, you really need to sort out the squeaking foot ware as it's rather distracting!
Personally, visually, I think this watch is just about perfect, definitely going to get one :)
Agreed
Ah you went diving mate, well done!
A thinner gmt pelagos would be one hell of a summer holiday watch
I can only afford one, the Sinn U50 or new FXD ??
How does it compare on the wrist against an OG Pelagos?
I had the 39mm Pelagos briefly. I much prefer the matte dial and bezel on the 42mm. If it had that, probably still have the watch
I’ve got a 17 LHD Black dial, 500m, ti case and bracelet, same movement, 2 spare straps including nato and extendable rubber. Not sure the differences for this are worthy of a new release. Love the Pelagos but not sure Tudor have done enough with this one.
STUNNING WATCH
Oh ! Do they do a white version ?
Amazing video, would have been cool with a shot of the American White Pelican with a black Pelagus 😅
You should go to Vieques, PR. Best water and beaches in the world. My God father was an early frogman and they used canteen watches. I have it and that predates them all. The Tudor sub along with the Rolex sub were used. I would say the last or the closest thing you can get with the newer movement would be the 14060m. The Pelagos is an update and looks fantastic in black as it should.
Nice vid as always, trying to figure out if you have corduroy jeans on or very squeaky flipflops hahaah
Haha. It’s the sand. I didn’t think the mic would pick it up.
Really nice! It is soon my birthday… :-)
Nice looking watch, but a bit too bland. I bought the Longines Ultra-Chron diver instead. With its Sapphire bezel, hi beat movement and ultra chronometer certification- it's a great alternative. Great video!
Oh man, if this watch was on a bracelet I would buy it ASAP!
Uh wow ... a new colourway... *sigh* ... Tudor gets really experimental there! But I envy you for the certainly nice trip to Panama.
Looking at the "affordable" price point, I wonder if ANY of the Seals actually would buy one for their job, if they would not get one issued.
I still would want to see a version with a date. Personally, I would even fancy a day-date version, like the SBS Diver.
I would want to know what date it is if I was extracted on the 21st at 06:00 on waypoint X.
And I would want to know if it's a Friday so I could yell at the pilot to get us the hell out of here so we would not be late for Pizza night!
Ps. looks good on that grey Nato. Cheers!
Worth noting that San Martin just released that blue GMT Pelagos design in 39mm Ti... this is a watch people have been asking for for the better part of a decade now, while Tudor have been furiously pumping out stuff nobody wants like the 925 or with 16mm cases.
And while I'm not a fan of "homages"/blatant copies of current production watches, the quality of the three hander version (blue, 39mm 2nd gen with date at 6) absolutely blew me away, and truly leaves for dead watches ten times the price, or even more. And they're giving people versions they want that the real brands can't or won't. (I'll be first in line for a blue, date, 39mm Pelagos, 3-hander or GMT)
You’ve got a point. I want the modern Pelagos 39 design but with 20mm lugs. China will make it for me but not Tudor. I feel bad buying Chinese but it’s tempting
I really want an FXD... not sure which though. Would like to see a 39mm FXD
Wooooh guess who’s back
