How to Swipe Black Over White Without Getting Gray [Acrylic Pouring Tutorial]

- Just painting for fun today. No silly experiments, just having a good time with paint. My idea is to do a black swipe, over white, with greens and blues, gradually getting darker as I get further towards the bottom of the panel - furthest away from the black. I’m wondering if the white and black will mix and turn grey. Only one way to find out!

Which way up would you display this poured and swiped acrylic painting? Do you like it with the black at the top or the black at the bottom? Or even sideways?

Love the touch of glitter, subtle and nice. I too love glitter. Think this turned out beautifully. I'd put the black on the side. I'm new to pour art so thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks Joey I love glitter too. Best wishes. Deby
Fabulous Deby as usual Cheers Ann
The glitter makes me happy :-)
There was beautiful bleeding & calling between the colors even before you started swiping. Lovely.
I think Martha Stewart makes the prettiest glitter paints.
I agree, these were interesting to work with
Gorgeous . Love your vids. Cheers, Deb T
Thanks Deb
Really beautiful result! I think I like it best with the black at the bottom. :)
Thanks Lori, I think I do too.

Thank you Agnes, and thank you for always taking the time to leave me a comment
Ooooo...I like!!😉
And thanks again Jeannie. Best wishes. Deby
I have learned the hard way to only drink from a cup that has a lid, no more putting brushes in my drink, or drinking from my paint water. :)
Too many close calls!
Oh Come on Adelaide...... where’s your sense of adventure? LOL. I do feel you though.
Nice
Cheers Heather. Deby
I have been binge watching your videos and love every single one of them. I can't wait to try this myself. Just waiting on some silicone. Should be here tomorrow!
Deby, ALL your videos are a joy to watch, I love your voice and the clear explanations, never boring, I have one question, are those glittery paints lightfast do you know?
Ah, I don't know about that. Interesting question. I'm sure Plaid would tell you if you got in touch with their customer service. They've always been quick to answer my questions.
Deby at Acrylic Pouring thank you for answering, so many artists don't if the question is a bit tricky, I appreciate that. Looked on their site and it says uva and weather proof inside and out, so yes!
When you started pouring i was wondering if the black should be poured on the other end, near ultra marine blue as the deeper parts of ocean are darker than the coastal part which are light and frothy. But the contrast looks stunning! :-)
Ah yes I see what you mean. Hmm, would have been a completely different end result most likely, but interesting too no doubt.
Hello, creative beautiful, like!
Thank you!
Deby, we invite you to explore our virtual exhibition. You will be delighted!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love watching your pours, Deby I've learned so much from you!!!
Thanks very much Bevie, glad to know you enjoy watching.
Hello, your painting is lovely..
When you say you're going to dry the painting, how do you do it? Or do you mean let it dry by itself over a few days? I'd love to find a way to dry them faster, I keep messing them up moving them when I think they are dry but are not.. thanks for your help
My favourite so far, thanks for the instruction! Going to try it with my DecoArt metallic paints.
That will be glorious I'm sure
Wow! I wish my swipes came out that pretty! Good job Deby.
Thank you Lori
Love the outcome of this one! I really want to try swiping, yours always come out so nice.
Thank you Krystal. It really is a fun way to paint. I hope you will try it soon.
Deby it's beautifull ! Are my favorite colours ! I will try...thank you for teaching us ! In my country trere is not foetrol ...whit which I can replace it ? Thank you !!you are very generous from Argentina follow you ! Kissies 💜🌼🌎
Thanks for your comments. Sorry I don't know the replacement for Floetrol in Argentina. You will have to go to your local DIY store and ask for a latex paint extender. Best wishes. Deby
Lovely painting! One question though just like the lady below who asked and I quote "Do the paints you have in the large bottles already have the floetrol and silicone mixed in them? Can they sit on the shelf like that for a long time and still produce cells?" I am alos wondering about that? I have been thinking about buying thos squeeze bottles and was wondering the same thing? Have a great day!
I've had some of mine mixed for a couple of months and they still seem to work as expected. A quick shake before the pour is all it takes.
Beautiful! Love the glitter paint and can't wait to see more! Oh, and I would put the black at the top😜
More glitter paints on the way soon :-)
Oooh I love this! I had a swiping disaster at the weekend, but you've inspired me to try again, thank you! 😃.
Oh dear, sorry to hear that! Its my favorite way so I hope you will give it another try.
Yep definitely! I've just got my order of metallics so I'll give it another go with some of them.
Este material, puede conseguirse en México?
Hi Deby. Everyone swipes with white or black. Why? Can one not swipe with say the dark blues or even a metallic?
Beautiful and we could see the glitter a bit. Have you ever tried swiping with just a sheet of copy paper (one big swipe)? It works as good as acetate if you ask me as long as you make sure it's stuck to the very top of the paints. I just love swiping and your's turned out so nice.
I've not tried that. I sort of like the variation I get from using the small card, and its a bit less uniform that way. Maybe in future...
Do the paints you have in the large bottles already have the floetrol and silicone mixed in them? Can they sit on the shelf like that for a long time and still produce cells?
Yes the paints in the bottles are mixed the same as for my regular pours. I mix up a big batch in a cup as I usually would and then save it into the bottles for quicker painting later. Still seems to cell the same way.
Hi Deby, I am really enjoying your CZcams videos. Can you share your recipe for how you mix up your paint prior to pouring? I really like your idea of using squeeze bottles.
Yes of course. These were mixed 1 part Floetrol and 2 parts paint plus water as needed, about 1/2 part or so depending on thickness of the paint. Then I added silicone oil (treadmill belt lubricant) at about 2 drops per tbsp of unmixed paint. Hope that helps.
Love this! I have a large Glass squeegee would that work for this? Thanks for sharing 💜🤗
You might find it difficult to control because you only want the lightest touch to swipe the paints. I've seen others do a nice job with a sheet of clear acetate.
Where do u get your cups? Please
Do you mean the squeeze bottles I'm using here? These are the bottles - amzn.to/2tycRAC
Or do you mean actual plastic cups?
do all the colors contain silicone except for the black?
Yes I have the silicone in all the colors.
The black does not mix with other colors. Why would it with white. Pretty.
Não gostei do seu vídeo Você fala muito
Why do any type of craft if there's no glitter? Duh!
Hahaha, my thoughts exactly.
