- It was time to bring my Land Rover Defender 90 Into the 21st Century with a
new Sony Single din head unit known as a floating screen 9 inches of it...
with Apple car play, Android Auto, Enables you to use your phone with all
features including phone APPS Sat Nav navigation mirror imaging from your phone DAB+
Radio, HDMI, USB Bluetooth pack with sow Many features and you know you're getting quality when you buy a Sony... So with that in mind it was time
to take the old radio system out and get to work on fitting this lovely New
Sony touch screen stereo Got to work straight away Feed the new wires
soldier and wires end I'm running a new cable for the dab radio along with
other stuff that needed to be changed to make the installation complete
it did take me a few days and evenings after work doing a bit here and a bit
there taking my time to make sure it was fitted correctly and I wanted to do it
myself as in the future if I needed to do anything I knew exactly where things
were and what I had done It's made a real difference and it's to drive in my
defender with regards the audio the quality of the sound is out of this world
so clear and I'm able to customise the screen with clear sound and visual
Display the picture quality is amazing too It's a real nice upgrade for any
vehicle but more so in my Land Rover Defender 90 Td5...

It's a nice fit on that does. Doesn't really block your buttons. Seems an excellent choice! On a Puma I think it will block the hazards etc.
With this Sony screen on this unit, you can move it up, and down and tilt it in or out fully adjustable...it works Great on the Defender and Doesn't interfere with any other switches on the Defender Td5... you can get a double DIN Sony unit the same which may be better in a Defender Puma, but this would work as well...

I've just removed the tape deck out of my td5 and need to replace it, so thanks for showing this.
When I First bought my Landrover Defender 90 Td5 it had a radio cassette player... and that was only 18 years ago...🤣 Thanks...For your comment.👍

I fitted an ATOTO Android unit (same form factor) in my 300TDi. I made my own USB adaptor using a Carling blanking plate and cutting a hole to fit the USB cable end. I did have to go for a new shark fin antenna as the DAB reception was poor with the glue on antenna it came with.
I have a dab unit Separate from my radio. I've stuck Antenna on a side window of the Defender it is what I've used now for this new radio I just installed.... and it works fine I was looking to get a new dab Antenna for the Defender, but there's no need... sometimes just make do...👍
I want to change out my old defender stereo. I thought a floating sterio would bw nice, but it s abit in the way of the other knobs. So I guess Ill just get a regular sterio.
Hi, you can always get something smaller like a 5" Floating Touch Screen stereo single Din which would probably work in your Defender... Sony stereo in My Defender is about 9" quite big... but it fits fine with the Switches etc...
I hope you find something that you can fit in your Defender...

Dash Pod on my Defender Td5 is from a company called Bolts on Bits here in the UK... a few years ago I think you still get them just have a look on eBay I know MUD UK sells something similar... Thanks for watching and for your message...👍hope you find one...!
What is the brand and nodel if the stereo you just removed?
Hi there the old stereo that I Removed from the Defender was an Auna 3" Touch Screen with Mp3 USB which I have from eBay about 8 years ago I don't know the Model number, but it is still a good stereo just wanted something new and more updated... and a Sony to...👌

I have a roof lining with a single din radio aperture in it. Would this stereo fit in it if it was tilted down to its fullest?

It would be best to measure first... with it being a single Din head unit I think it would be fine you could adjust it a lock it in position but after that, you cannot move it you can't move the screen once you have put it in the position you want... thanks for your message...Rob

Aren't touch screens the last thing you want in a vehicle? How about 100% road concentration?
The screen on this Sony XAV-AX8150 is very clear and far better than a small screen... which makes it that bit safer as you are not trying to find Buttons... 💯% keep your eyes on the road ahead...😁
