This is kick ass. Jeff Buckley is a musical genius with a range no one could touch. The movie was stellar and touching and this performance in particular left tears in my eyes. He's not Jeff but he did him proud.
+Rachel Saracen jeff was his son...we are talking about tim buckley...
+guitar4choice yes, but these performances and the main theme of the movie is about Jeff, not Tim...it is about Tim the absent father, but about Jeff the musician and their similarities, father and son.
axl rose and freddie mercury both surpass his range
Same man
It's a movie haha, Jeff and Tim is dead bro? It's a movie with actors
I didn't realize so many people on CZcams knew the Buckley s on a personal level. In my opinion Penn did an awesome job.
Proj3ctX1 yes , but he isn't Jeff, he is an amazing singer and no one can sing like him. But he did a good job, it's just if you are into Jeff Buckley's music you'd understand. If he was pretraying Tim then yes he sounded a bit more like him, but no was does he even come close to Jeff.
He definitely did. But Buckley's fanbase is hideous and silly, always trying killing his legacy, always bringing down people willing to absorb jeff influences. "OH, HE'S NOT BUCKLEY"... yea, thanks.
True but I sometimes feel like I wish they left them alone in peace you know? I mean do what you want with Tim but Jeff is a lot more (I can’t think of the word) he’s a lot more special, and I wish they didn’t do anything you know? He came and left his art and that’s all
(Sorry for my bad English). Particularly I am quite a (much) more fan of Tim's music, hearing practically all of his discography in these moments, but for quite some time now, completely fascinated with his eccentricity as an artist. With Jeff I have not investigated too much yet, although the quality of him also amazes me. I wish this movie had also allowed many people to know about Tim's incredible work, in so few years that his musical career lasted as well.
@Brennen Larisey most of the movie was fictional. Read Dream Brother or From Hallelujah to the last goodbye published in 2019 for the real education.
Wow. Just recently discovered him as an actor (You) but he is so multi-talented. Beautiful voice.
That's amazing! He even did little 'Jeff' faces on the falsetto. Can't wait to see this movie.
He's an amazing actor. I hope this movie takes him out of teen movies.
wipers86 my favourite part of the film too; demonstrates his great voice....tried to find that clip on you tube but was not there.
😂😂😂 oh you
Hello there. You.
oh how far he has come
This aged well!!
I think Penn did a beautiful job. No one can sing like Jeff, but he did capture his essence.
This is the calmest I've felt in a long time
The cover Jeff did of I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain at that concert was incredible.
Amazing Penn Badgley
I've seen interviews and various clips of his performance in this film and I'm so pleased with the effort he put into forming his character. Jeff was such a unique, interesting man and he captured him pretty damn well. he clearly did his research. well done penn & rip Scottie
Moorhead
Movie was fiction mostly. Read Dream Brother or From Hallelujah to the last goodbye...published in 2019.
He’s literally so talented
This song he did brought tears streaming down my face ,, I love Jeff my fav musician ever I literally have all the cds and even collected magazines with him in it his voice was so amazing unlike anyone else ,,and I think penn did such a beautiful job I think Jeff would have been proud ❤
“Not bad Humphrey” -BW
i can understand why blake lively wanted him
I love how he had to get his curly hair straightened out. He fits the character perfectly his voice too idk I didn't expect him to sing like Christina Alguielera. You know his voice is a typical old rock one.
I watch this daily
+OmfgGillian Right?! I feel like I have to listen to this multiple times throughout the day.
I can't get over, I'm watching since 2014
What a beautiful, haunting performance by Penn Badgley covering this song. No words....
Jeff and Tim were two of the best musicians the world has seen, no one can touch Jeff’s vocals. Even though we left the world at a early age he left behind some of the most beautiful music.
Big Smoke Tim was far more original and superior as a vocalist. Possibly the greatest ever.
Nothing Really couldn’t agree more. It’s a shame not a lot of people know about him either. You always hear people talk about Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and not about Tim.
@@nothingreally6680Tim was more original but no where near the vocalist that Jeff became in his short life
I Had Tears In My Eyes Listening To This. Its Difficult to imagine as to what rollercoaster of emotions jeff might have been going through when he actually performed it.
😩the voice
I’m in love with Penn Badgley
i love penn's voice so much omg
I don't know if you've ever listened to Jeff Buckley but live versions of a lot of song have quite a bit of improvisation like that. Its just how he sang.
he can sing me too sleep
His voice is so nice I am in love
incredibly powerful song
Phenomenal
I want to see him Sing "Creep" by Radiohead! Theme song of YOU Season 2
"Theme song of YOU Season 2" xD you uncultured swine
@@keicam_ leave him alone.
Creep is radioheads first hit, if I remember correctly.
Tim Buckley's son inspired Radiohead to do the tender sensitive thing
Exceptionally good
I know people don't like this or it doesn't live up to Jeff(tbh who can) but god I always come back to this. I find it to be such a haunting version that has since stuck with me. I really love it and I loved Penn's performance in the movie.
Penn tiene una voz preciosa
A great recreation of a classic cover.
I feel I love Penn more now after discovering about his band and their songs and his voice 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Also his falsetto voice sounds like Zayn's at times. Even in his band songs.
Didi chup ho jao please kitna hagogi jeff Buckley ko zayn Malik se compare mat karo please Maine maar dena hai tumhe
@@Ankit-ph5dr Jeff Buckley ko nahi kara hai bachhe. Penn Badgley ko kiya hai :)
Aap na hage :)
Penn Badgley bhi gaana gaata hai. Check out his band MOTHXR if you want to.
Breaking News: Penn Badgley is not Jeff Buckley :)))
I know it's over is one of my favorite songs of all time .
just finished watching it and i totally recommend it, did bring some tears in my eyes-- but thats what makes it better!!
Its mostly fiction. Not a true portrayal at all. Director and producer even stated it.
I hope Penn sings on the next season of You.
DDude that was just great congrats Penn
True talent penn
nailed it
I think when jb played this originally he broke a guitar string at the end which is why he did an acapella. They should have done the same in the movie.
I love you lonely boy!! ❤️❤️
I saw this movie many years back and lately when I was watching one of Badgley's old interviews, there was a prompt saying "Penn Badgley Star of Greetings from Tim Buckley" and all of a sudden it hit me and I was like, dang it's my man Joe from You. He really played THE Jeff Buckley...
Who's here after watching 'YOU' ?
Well hello there - Joe
Pals C me! his voice is gorgeous 😍
I watched Cymbeline , Margin Call and this movie after YOU😀
yup. ive always loved him tho. obsessed with his band, Mothxr for years now. soooo good. His voice is my fav
✋
This is awesome looking forward to this dude’s music! Who is this dude portraying Tim! Thanks for posting this amazing singer song musician! Rip Tim up.there with Jeff rip as well ! 👍❤️☮️😻🤟🙏🇺🇸🎶
i'm inlove with him
...Jeff was SOOooooo unique that it's impossible to play him in a movie...my 2 cents ; )
who cares if they do him justice. We just want Jeff back. Stop making pointless biopics.
Perfeito!
I cannot believe that they released this song.
Penn ❤❤
Harikaaaaaaaaaaa
Mi amorrrrrrrrrrrrr 😍😍😍😭😭😭😭😭
Harikaa
Aí meu Deus!
I think penns got a nice voice and his tone is kinda similar to Jeffs but of course no where near as unique and powerful but he does a pretty good job judging by this clip ... I wanna watch the movie
To be honest, he does a great job at singing soft but angelic like Jeff, but his singing in terms of timing is awkward. Also, Jeff had much better control of his voice.
@@ThisNameWasTaken0 There’s no comparison between Jeff and Penn lol stop it
Playing Jeff Buckley it'd be like playing John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix or Freddy Mercury it's more then just singing the songs he sang it's much, much more then that. When trying a recreation the best that can be done is just a faint shadow of that person.
Billy Pilgrim couldn’t agree more. Just stop butchering perfection from past artists and do something goddamn original
I honestly don;t understand why the cameraman found it necessary to shake the camera non stop during this performances. Stand still, the shaking achieves nothing.
Sandra Curran it actually serves a purpose. They could have easily used a stabilizer but the shakiness represents perhaps the tension and emotion the people are feeling. If the camera were stabled the scene would seem less dramatic.
Sometimes raw and unstablized footage is trying to convey an emotional or vulnerable feel to the scene. Here it works so beautiful with his stripped down voice and the way that the girl is looking at him.
@@joshelias8472 the thing is the cameraman could have held it and would have just achieved the same effect. Was purposefully shaking it too much.
Lightning Rider It wouldn’t achieve the same purpose but I get your point and see how it could be annoying.
Those slides into falsetto are so uncanny 😳
Este vídeo deveria ser mais divulgado! pois isso é muito lindo!
Freaking need this to stop being paranoid because of his series in netflix!!!!! 😭 joe
💛
His voice is like an angel 😍😍 like it's so soothing lmao . I gotta say , I like this better than his band mothxr even tho there good too .
sarah bopeep You know it's not him? Right?
Nah i didnt know :( ahha now im just dissapointed lol . But hey, whoever sung it has a soothing voice aha
There's a recording of the original by jeff on youtube, the recording is low quality, s bear with it, and he also broke a string at the end, which is why he stopped playing.
This isn't his song, but he is definitely singing. IDK if the other guy was saying he wasn't singing or not.
It wasn't a great film, not an ideal first and only movie about Jeff Buckley, but Penn did a damn fine replicating the sound and look as much as one could expect.
Mostly fiction so read Dream Brother instead.
Oh my Gawd your son's voice is amazing, beautiful tone and vibrato. I may speak sacrilege but I like this version more than Tim or Jeff's. Serious kudo's
2:36
wtf saw this guy on You and im a huge buckley fan this is awesome
at the end of the day it's just a movie, bad or as good as it may be.. showcasing some beautiful songs in remembrance of tim and jeff buckley, I know that my life would be missing something beautiful if it hadn't been made. is that not the true judge of a film?
Is he lip syncing to the song or he's really singing? Either way this is beautiful.
Jada he’s really singing. He has a band named mothXr also.
@@kelceytaylor9797 Wow!!! His voice is incredible!
Mrs. Opulence Fun fact Penn goes into an acapella because Jeff’s guitar string broke.
Real voice, so good hey.
THey should release a soundtrack form the film
Just watched this 2 years ago so good, so funny at the beginning 26 mins in at the music store when his singing, made me laugh so hard hahaha.
made me cry too.
and,yes,that's a SECOND.
Legal
God. Now I want to watch this movie, listen to Jeff Buckley and listen to Tim Buckley at the same time.
Movie is mostly fiction. Read Dream Brother instead.
He's really singing
okay but SINCE WHEN .... SLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
I cried when I saw this performance in the movie
SLAY
Not a great film, but it has lots of cool Tim Buckley covers. I wish they would release the soundtrack
Imogeen likes this
the thing he knew he would sound like crap if he mimics Jeff's talking voice. Which is why he decided to just present Jeff not by his voice, or by mimicking his gestures but rather presenting the music just like Jeff always does.
This was only a good , not great movie. The record store scene is a classic & makes it worth the price.
I rather see a faint shadow than an actor mimicking Buckley on screen. Because the difference is, that faint shadow showed much more soul on Buckley's part than mimicking does. If I want to see a mimic, I go to CZcams, open a Jeff Buckley video.
It's not the range that makes the artist a genius it's the way he uses his voice, no matter if you have 2, 3 or more octaves , doesn't matter. One can have 5 or 6 octaves in his/her voice and do various technical stuff and be shitty/borring/tiresome/predcitable/ snotty show-off, choose whichever you like. I prefer such vocal magicians like jeff buckley to people playing divas and showing off with their prowess.
+Sławek Ziółkowski What you say is a lie. Buckley was unique in the fact that he had excellent control over his voice, with an exceptionally rare vocal range, and smooth tone. Given he is Caucasian I think to have these things and be so, was gracious.
Don't you belittle him. His vocal range and control in sustaining long notes and difficult pitches made him what he was.
+Barnaby Smith why so touchy:) im just expressing my opinion. True, Jeff Buckley was a genius, he had a bout 2,5 octaves ok. Dont get me wrong , Im not puttin him down. On the contrary, for me it doesnt matter how many octaves he had, but what he did with his voice, and we all know he was a musical magician. If he had 1 or 1,5 octave and hed still create such amazing songs as he did in the day, then most certainly I would listen to him, Just like i listen other musical miracles like Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra or Bill Whithers.
So dude dont me accuse of showing disrespect to my idol, read between the lines, he was a great artist and nowadays people need such artists like Jeff-true to the core.
+Sławek Ziółkowski And what you say is true, he possessed the musicality to use his voice different from others. I don't think anyone has ever achieved 5-6 octaves even the enunciating Minnie Riperton and Buckley had 3 and 1/4 to 4 octaves of a vocal range. And I'll add that his highs were pleasant to listen to unlike those of today, strong, I don't think anybody in 20 years has come close to his "collectivity", if so I'm certain he'd be there.
One day I'm hopeful someone will pop up and awaken people from the recycled nonsense they've been buying and celebrating, realising the trash they've been infecting there ears with is nothing but that, repetitive and uninspiring...
I cannot and I mean I cannot for the life of me understand how Ed Sheeran and the likes, are considered a good artists. A Generation that celebrates mediocrity. he defines it. Like the oasis mentality of, if they can do it we can! If he can do it I can! I think thats his image, and it sells because people think talent is easily (X-factor).
Well, never before have i had such a fruitful argument, that eventually turned out to be a stimulating exchange of thoughts. It is rare for a youtube comment-section argument not to go sauer, thank you. I share and understand your concern in regard to contemporary Music.
+Sławek Ziółkowski Probably because of people becoming far too reliant on the internet and have not had the chance to learn how to detract themselves from it. After all, Is this real of is this just fantasy? It's all part of the same issue. Perhaps people have forgotten how to be. people...and maybe I'm not excluded.. but for me its different, very different.
For some there's no doubt they work for success in music of today, in recent years... but why does that mean they deserve it? especially the one-hit wonder types who are utterly dumbfounded. Do they only do it for money, the fame and the sex that comes with, or to inspire people to love other people? I can't accept it being the latter not in the slightest.
Likewise, It's nice you're not close-minded and perhaps do not lack the perspective quality, that is a rarity in itself, my friend.
6 octaves would be superhuman
Someone PLEASE help me play this. Do you know chords or how to play it??? I really want to know.
C and F for verses
And then i think its Am, G and C for chorus. I could be wrong. 3rd fret.
@@niallh4194 Thank you sp much.
@@tarheel777100 hey brother comment above is wrong, this is in Drop D, itd take too long to explain over text but a guy on youtube has a good lesson on this version i'll link it
If they ever made Hadestown a movie he should play Orpheus!
He stopped playing because a string broke, I wish they'd shown that.
Well, this is a FIRST
Penn Badgley doesn't look nothing like Jeff.
i see what you did there :DDDDDDD
This was actually a great cover but the chick biting her lip in the stands had me howling
Familiar
Dads version is the best.
Im here because im watching gossip girl ❤
Thought he was John Mayer at first. Penn sorta resembles him ish.
Did Allie even exist?
No. She did not. The show was mostly fictional. Read Dream Brother instead.
Movie is shit.
Badgley is incredible as Jeff though!
Movie was mostly fiction
Whose the girl supposed to be? Rebecca Moore? Are these things that happened in real life?
No. She was made up. Movie wasn't fact based at all and wasn't intended to be. Read Dream Brother instead.
pretty good job on the singing voice, but not on the talking one (I saw other movie clips). However the guitar is shit. Jeff Buckley didn't sound like a toddler trying to play.
Keanu Charles Reeves Nah Jeff was a great guitarist Badgley had to take guitar lessons for this movie.
I think this is hard to watch. I first came across the buckley’s decades ago, and read some of their biographies. Seen various footage etc etc. Just sayin!
Why is it hard to watch
When the person starts playing the guitar ... and... he plays very wrong... wtf.
Gary Lucas thought it was a good idea.
