I'm an FIT graduate. I'm very happy with the education that I received there. I still go back for continuing education classes. A lot of the same professors that teach at Parsons also teach at FIT. Among all the schools listed in your video, it's the best value for your money.

@@sashasalon1707 My apologies for the late reply. Cornell is a great school, but I would recommend going to a school that specializes in fashion. Those schools would offer the connections, facilities, professors, and other resources that are specially focused on the industry.

This video was wonderful! However I would not recommend Kent State for Fashion! I am currently in the program and it has made my life utterly miserable. Yet I feel like I can’t go anywhere else. The fashion school in particular is highly discriminatory towards people with disabilities. Our elevator in Rockwell hall has not been fixed for years and we cannot host a fashion show there for people with different abilities nor can any disabled student such as myself use the elevator when needed to get to classes. They also deny accommodations for every class stating it “infringes on the essential nature of the course.” And in all my years I have not been given any accommodations for any classes when they should’ve applied. The professors gossip with each other about other students like a bunch of high schoolers and tarnish the reputations of the students. Some of the students you can tell have a hard home life or are going through something and the teachers ignore it and chalk it up to them being “lazy” this was especially bad my freshman year. My reputation alone has been tarnished because I am fighting for me and other students disability rights and an investigation is being conducted on them for potential violation of ADA law. Let’s just say the school doesn’t like being under the scrutiny of the government. Every single internship that is offered through them is unpaid as well, (you’re paid through “experience”) if you want one paid you have to look yourself. They expect you to pay $4,000+ to go on a trip to New York, find your own apartment that costs 2k a month in a high crime area, and be able to pay for that with your unpaid internship. I remember stories from seniors not being able to afford food and eating almonds from their workplace as their “meals.” One of the internship advisors keeps recommending an internship for a company that has been known to abuse and take advantage of the students, she only recommends it because she is friends with the owner. I have spoken on the phone with that lady and had an argument with her because she wouldn’t let me take an internship at Ralph Lauren and said she wanted me sewing not learning the business.(I’m just as confused as you) She has a massive stick up her ass and is worried about me having a job when she went to Parsons for fashion design and is stuck at a desk job. Mind you I have maintained a 3.5 GPA despite all the setbacks I’ve been through and have never failed out of a class, I also have a fantastic retail job right now so nothing to worry about. I have so many more horrible stories and I could go on for days. The education isn’t even good at all for how much money you have to put into it. If you can afford something else I beg of you, save yourself the hours of crying and stress and get yourself a degree at a place that’s worth it. You’ll find a few gems of professors and may make nice friends(I love the people in my classes) but again, it’s not worth it and you’re gonna graduate not feeling prepared for the industry and the road to even graduate is too rough to be worth it.

Hey!!! So glad you enjoyed this video and thanks so much for this insight, I haven’t visited Kent myself from my research it’s a good uni but always good to have an insider tell us more about the colleges, if your confidence has been knocked please try and not let it get to you, you are amazing if your not happy begin to look at other universities close by or in another state, apply and move. I was lucky with my college as I really enjoyed it however I do know people who didn’t enjoy it as much as me, good luck and keep your head high xxx

@@SoCalledFashion Thank you for the kind words! :) Also you're right not everyone's experience is the same! Some people may attend school there and have no issues. Not all of the Kent programs are like that either. The Fashion School is almost a separate entity. I've had like 3 really sweet professors too but they're hard to find and thankfully my one studio professor I have right now is decent. It's mostly the higher up faculty that are especially hard to deal with. I'm specifically a design student and I've heard more horror stories from other design students than bad stories from Merchandising students. Merchandising isn't as intensive of a program either and I wish I started with that as my major. I just wanted to share my thoughts and let people know that things could be difficult if you're in a situation like me(like having a disability), so just be cautious when picking schools.

Cool video. I'd probably take Drexel and Kent off as there are better schools (no shade to those who go there). RISD, MassArt, Otis, Pratt are decent schools.

Hey, with a degree you could start to apply for entry level designs positions, but it would be better to have some experience in fashion first. If you want to move on to study fashion after your bachelors, then do it. It will help to set you in in the position you want to apply for.
