- Brand new Jeep Wrangler JL 392 on Portal axles and 40 inch tires nearly flips going up an obstacle on Pritchett Canyon in Moab during Easter Jeep Safari 2023. A little bit too much of a lead foot almost lead to the demise of a nearly 200k dollar wrangler build.
Don’t get me wrong, this was a very challenging trail and everyone nearly flipped in one way or another. The driver did the best he could given the situation, his vehicle, and his experience.
This guy has a lot of money and absolutely no driving skills. Just glad he didn't destroy the Jeep.

This was brutal to watch, and him driving straight into that boulder at the end was the cherry on top.
I'm sure he was aired down. At least some. We've run trails on the CZcams channel I was on, at 15 psi and been lectured for not airing down

What the hell is this guy doing? I would keep my distance from him on the trail. I’ve known some people who drive like this and people need to keep back. He needs a sticker on his Jeep that says “Stay back 60 feet”

Paul is a better spotter than that and George should know by now to air down his tires, use low range and finesse that JLUR up the obstacle.

Driving the 392 is a different experience than the other engine offerings. You have to figure out throttle response all over again and that takes time. Likely this is the first time he has had to apply that much throttle off-road.
Heh, unfortunately, I don't think that's true. Quite a few folks on the Wrangler forums know this guy. He was described as having more money than sense.
@@Jackal_Blitz I don't know the guy but that seams to be true. He's been rescued a couple of times atleast by Matt's Offroad. Every rig is a high dollar build.

I'm a complete novice but the way his truck is bouncing makes me think he's got to much air in his tires.

something was up with the wheel setup. even at a crawl there was way too much slippage, and the tires looked like they were maybe a bit too inflated? I bet if he aired down and tried it again a little more slowly he'd have gotten through it. He didn't seem like he didn't know what to do.
when a driver gets angry and does stuff fast, thats when bad things happen. glad it didnt in this case.
That spotter was in the way. If you know someone has a heavy foot you give them the space.

That thing pushes like a snow plow. The front end won't bite at all. Better check your steering setup and slow down to let it get traction
Portals give clearance, but they don’t give flex. They raise the cg, and if you’re not careful or smart about setup….
Some people trade jeeps like they have a tank....He just had LUCK that he did not roll over.
After 30 years of visiting Moab Easter Jeep Safari this is why we quit going. Capable Jeeps such as this...and drivers have no skill to operate such equipment. It is sad, but we are done with these credit card drivers. Jeep Safari has become a joke as there is no qualifying of drivers so folks sign up for trails way above their heads. Moab used to be a show so when something broke drivers had the parts and the skill to fix it out on trail.
Too much tire pressure? Maybe not a great driver? Spotter at fault as well for stating a little more speed? Good save either way. More balls to wheel than 99% of the 392 mall crawlers out there.

I agree that we do start somewhere, but before you invest so much into the vehicle, get a feel for it first, test it, and learn the vehicle's capabilities and limits, including your own, as the driver.
Would it have helped him to have less air pressure?

i have a 62 FJ40 and yeah its a money pit, prob 50k into it, but still, i would never drive it like that.

Only very capable vehicles were able to reach this point on the trail, let alone attempt the obstacle. Not trying to say he’s a novice or can’t drive (although some comments are), I just think that a lot of elements made that a very sketchy hill climb
@@Rubber_N_Smoke with that rig, a good driver would have been able to make it up there easily. I personally can do it in my 2003 wrangler TJ, with smaller tires, less clearance and a shorter wheelbase, less power ect.
Some of us still remember this same driver almost destroying a red Rubicon in the video "$100,000 Jeep Flooded In The River."
