Too many people give up too early and move to a one story house instead of staying where there are stairs. Stairs are the BEST workout for the whole body I've ever found. I'm 66 and am still in my four story Victorian house, stairs are my best friend!

Until nearing age 70, I had never in my life broken a bone. Then I tripped on a garden hose, fell and chipped an elbow. I'm thinking if I had adopted these exercises THEN, perhaps I wouldn't have tripped again a few years later, making a two-point landing that shattered both elbows! Needed repeat surgeries and have had pain and limited range of motion ever since.
I recently did a 'face plant', thanks to a trip in my house, and I realize at this age, it's imperative that one NOT be TRIPPING. I'll add these exercises to what I already do, hoping to be careful and stay whole 'for the duration.' Wishing everyone else good safety, too.

Wonder why uploaders think that it is an essential to 'attract' or 'keep the interest' of viewers that way. I guess some people like noise, like they like cheap perfume and malls and supermarkets have adopted it to 'attract the masses' until it has now become the culture for all sellers.

We need to be aware….be careful, nay--avoid entirely carrying things. It throws you off. Use a handled bag, or something with wheels and a sturdy strap.
It’s a butt of jokes at the moment, tripping and slipping, but we need to get mad because simple fixes will keep these awful injuries away.
Broken bones, doctors visits, costly and unnecessary, with simple things we can improve to keep this from happening.
We need to blame poor design, not blame the victim.

Is it joint replacement? Is it new or overly worn shoes? Let’s figure this out.
Long before I got to this Age Group, it seemed that the thick soled athletic shoes were not good for older people. No flex with those thick rubber soles. It’s like walking with snow shoes, plop foot down, no flex. None. Toes are there for a reason, have to have flex, toes have a job.

Your videos are the best. Everytime I see my doctor I tell him about one of the problem areas in my body, including brain fog, memory problems, shaking in my feet and hands, falling out of bed in my sleep, arthritis starting up in my hands. His reaction since end of 2019: "Don't worry about it.' Thus the problems are compounding over time and everything is getting worse. (Definitely need a new doctor!) I'm only 56 and somehow I've got to live with everything getting worse for, probably, a couple more decades. Thank goodness for people like yourself who can actually provide exercises I can do (without falling over) and others on CZcams who provide advice on health. I can't thank you enough.

As “youngsters” we didn’t have to think about walking without falling because our bodies were well accustomed to doing the whole process - our bodies REMEMBERED how to work! We get sedentary as we age, simply because we don’t have enough interesting things to keep us up and going in our later years!!

35 years as an OT and haven't been able to convince several MD's, PA's, NP's - WHY I have to manually pull my left leg into the car and also use door jamb to do the one stair into my home=hip flexors! One nurse practitioner sent me to a prosthetic company to have them make me an AFO! I had several back surgeries and many falls in the following years so I'm sure hip flexors not working on the left. By just watching your video I pulled out a stool and even though I knew I couldn't do it, I tried to follow your demo and I could lift my right leg with difficulty but not the left to put it up on the stool. Right leg had a lot of pain in the tendons on the top of that foot and also the right hip but I was able to do it. Needless to say I'm saving this video, and now I will know how to demonstrate to these uninformed doctors what the real problem is! I cannot thank you enough for this demonstration👍🤗

A trippy vid. Don't take a trip down memory lane. Have a safe trip. Well, I tripped 4 times through 2021/'22. I at first put it down to advancing years. But I then had a closer look at my shoes. They were half a size too big, but they also had no upwards taper at the front of the sole. And they felt a bit baggy overall. I got rid of them 18 months ago and I haven't fallen since. Bless your soles!

Thank you so much! I've been diGnosed eith MS, but also I have donated my left kidney which might have affected the lower abdominal muscles on the left which I m thinking could modt probably be the cause for feeling permanent pressure there and gradually having lost the agility of my left leg. I 've been using EMS, but not that often to have any results. I hope the exercise you've shown us will work out. It's much easier than carrying pads and wires around with you.

I have been tripping for many years now as I also had been walking/hiking oftentimes, but tripping came with the territory, so to speak. Especially near to end of trail or shopping or when tired even at home. You identify clearly why I tend to trip. I am a little weak in precisely those areas you point out and including lower back issues. I do wear orthotics for plantar faciitis and RA. My challenges might not be noticable, but they are real. And tripping slightly on uneven surfaces and stairs is a reality. Concentration when a bit tired is defnitely also a thing to consider. This exercise will also improve muscle memory. I thought my vision - I wear prescription glasses with multifocal lenses - was not helpful. So, with this presentation comes more understanding. The issue with tripping is in fact a multi faceted issue. In short, one might say it's because of aging. 😋 Someone even mentions ADD, adding to the other reasons. It's all of the above for me. Tripping is humiliating at any age 🥴 but falling is also a scary experience - that slow motion familiar feeling. 😱 😱 😱 😵 🙈

This is exactly how I tripped and landed on my wrist, breaking it. I'm 70, female, and a prime candidate for falls. The areas you mention are where I feel pain right now but will do these exercises once things are okayed by my doc. Not lifting my foot seems to be more common right now.

I have had a couple of trip falls. I mentioned that I was catching my toe/ball of foot, could I have a foot drop? He tested and said 'no, I didn't have that' but left it at that! No help
otherwise. So, as I walked, I just talked to myself to 'pick up my feet'! You've answered my question and I will be working on this. Thank you SO much!!

I do these exercises with qigong, yoga, Pilates. Balance, strength, hip openers, squats and practice sit to stand this last one is a challenge I’m working on. Sitting and standing, stretching and reaching are all everyday necessities for everyone everyday to move through life.
It’s not just older people that are locked into a body that isn’t functional or comfortable.
Thanks for the insight you’re doing a fantastic job. Please make a few exercise videos with just a workout for the gym and hydro pool it would be good to have a program for muscle strengthening and stretching exercises:)
I will look for your book is it on audible?

Thank you so much for this! Tripping over in the street, or even at home, is one of my worst fears. From watching this, I'd say the issue is in my ankles. I'm extremely young for my age (so I'm constantly told!) and I want to stay that way. Perhaps this exercise could even be the key for gaining more confidence when walking the demented one of my 2 small dogs! Only time will tell!!! Fab video. Now subscribed!😊
