This was a few years before he transitioned, when he was still known as Charice (though he never identified as her). He was only 17 or 18 here. His voice was obviously phenomenal before he transitioned and started going through male puberty, but he is still a great singer now. And his ability to connect and to perform is as incredible as always of course! If you want, I'd recommend watching more videos, both from Jake and also from way back, when he was still known as Charice and just 12-15 years old. Incredible!

American Mum... I’m a north of 65 yrs baby boomer who was totally infatuated with Whitney Houston when she did Body Guard. I’ve mourned her tragic and sad loss for many years. I also believed that having set the high bar (standard) that Whitney set. Well I’d never see another female pop singer with that control, power, and range until I watched the same performance that you displayed in this video. To say that I was totally floored, blown away, ASTOUNDED 😳 would be a very MILD understatement. That power, range, and control in one that age is a gift. David Foster a producer that has been behind some very big names obviously believed in her, got behind her and I’m convinced that she would have had a career that rivaled or perhaps surpassed other famous Pop Singers. It saddens me to see that she tossed all that in the dumpster over some silly DELUSION... OMG😞
