- In a recent episode of "Dialogue," Mr. Sujit Nair converses with Commodore Lokesh Batra about the recent ruling by the Supreme Court of India declaring the Electoral Bonds scheme unconstitutional. The scheme, which previously provided anonymity to financial contributions to political parties, along with amendments allowing unlimited political donations by wealthy corporations, was deemed unconstitutional and arbitrary by the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, leading a five-judge Bench, delivered a unanimous judgment stating that the electoral bonds scheme and associated amendments to various acts violated the voters' right to information regarding political funding as per Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. The apex court directed the State Bank of India to cease the issuance of electoral bonds immediately.

The SC never said the scheme is fraudulent but said : "the Court unanimously struck down the Union’s 2018 Electoral Bonds (EB) Scheme. The Bench held that the Scheme violated the voters’ right to information enshrined in Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution."
Congrats. Only one thing saddens me. Everyone got their standing ovation, except the CPIM. What a shame that everyone is blinded by right and centrist propaganda against the left. I.N.D.I.A, congress should make its candidates sign bonds/agreements/affidavigs that they will pay 2 crores per voter to the other party signatory in case they defect the alliance or party after the election. Signed, undated, blank cheques should be collected from them in this regard.

The issuance of the Electoral Bond Scheme through a Press release by the Finance Ministry dated 2nd January, 2018 in itself is an act which is nearly ultra vires of any existing statute. The information contained in the press release is incomplete in so far as citizens are concerned . The Finance Act was used in a clandestine manner to promote the scheme through the Parliament. The immediate assent of the Rashtrapati Bhavan is equally intriguing. So many organs of the Indian State have acted in concordance in the implementation of this grossly unconstitutional measure. The general lack of disquiet amongst educated and intelligent citizens is unacceptable, barring a few NGO's. The acts of the State cannot be shoved down as commandments and neither is blind adherence mandatory.
Thank you very much, Sir. But once we are in the midst of data of unconstitutionally looted country's money, what next now? Can we squeeze this money back from political parties? What punishment is there for such organised loot? It is public money. Political parties plundered it from companies and companies in turn plundered it from general public, through unneccessary price increases. Somebody should work on PM care fund also which is hidden from public view too.
What was started in 2017 became unconstitutional in 2024. Until then it was passe for all parties.
