Eminem is always connecting songs and themes together. The title of this song “RIVER” and then on MTBMB, he has “IN TOO DEEP”, which is also about cheating. Most people overlook this creativity.

Because they probably don't get the "Spider-Man" --> "spite her man" double. If you take ems bars at face value and don't really listen it all goes over your head
I love the spider-man line. It's in depth, and there are so many tie inns into it that Knox pointed out
Eminem shouting “Fuck!” At the end of his second verse is probably my favourite part of the song. I can feel the emotion he puts into it, the culmination of all the feelings of the person whose POV he’s rapping in all tied up in that one shouted word.
Em and Ed always have the best feats, their voices just sound so good together
Eminem is hands down the greatest artist of all time. People can talk all they want but nobody else is even remotely on this level. He’s a COMPLETE package.

It's a fad to hate on him. I have a 15 year old daughter who shits on him all the time just because it seems to be the thing to do. I'm not a huge fan, but I think he writes good songs, is a talented guitar player and singer and a strong lyricist. Pop music is a young person's market and most young people have terrible taste.
I was definitely a Ed hater based off of nothing more than what he looks like. Then I finally listened to his music and realized he's really talented. And they make really good music together.
Funnily enough this is easily one of my favorite songs by him, it's just genuinely chill music but people always want whatever isn't released and what isn't realistic in anyone's style. You want different things that you've never heard or what you really wanna hear? Go make your own music and get this big or just go make your own music in general, or quit bitching haters🤣🤣
Knox, I haven't really been able to enjoy what rap truly was explaining until a few weeks ago when I found your in-depth analysis of verses, and I am really glad that I did. Even with River, to which I spent quite a lot of time just listening to, to try and break it down, you went a step further in digging deeper into the story that Eminem is trying to tell. Thank you for that.
I don't get why this song gets any hate at all, its so well composed and Em's raps on this are amazing, his lyric choice is incredible, then Ed's chorus hook is so catchy too

For me revival was about all the classic samples that he integrated into the story telling the rhyme schemes those are the songs he grew up with and I truly appreciated all the work and effort he put into that album

Watching the mv to this song literally made me bawl my eyes out. I can see why it isn’t his most popular album but honestly this song reveals so much about his life and what was going on that it’s hard to still not applaud his efforts. Truly one of the most amazing rappers of all time even when people say he’s at his low!
This song is just a creative story, not his real life. He happily raised his child , starting when broke, then adopted and raised his sister-in-law's child, and his ex-wife's child with another man. There would be no reason to abort his own child, when he is capable, loaded and willing to take in and raise kids who aren't even his. If he got a woman pregnant, in any situation, no way he wouldn't support it or raise it on his own, which he has said. Not all songs are autobiographical. Some are jst creative and some are taken from friend's lives, movie plots, etc.
This may not be like a lot of other Eminem songs, but I love it. Eminem did a great job of showing his emotions while singing it too.
Revival is one of my FAVORITE albums to date! Idk to this day how people hate on it...

Uh huh when popularity is on your side you can't use that "haters" excuse
Because he sets the bar so high it was inevitable that one is not going to be quite as good as his other works. People know how good he can be and a lot feel this has landed a bit short. That's not to say it was terrible, just not as good as his other works.
It's crazy.
I love Em's ability to pen emotions and express his feelings even if it is twisted in many ways. To me, this album had a few gems, and this one specific piece is quite raw and brutal. Many of his songs throughout his career seem like letters written to different people in his life and an explanation on his part. Like 'mockingbird' is a deliberate note to his daughters, 'Cleaning out my closet' and 'Headlights' are written towards his mom, and lastly, 'Kim', and 'Bad Husband' from this album as well, are to his ex-wife. However, 'River' seems even more special, as I feel like it is an explanatory note for an unborn child. I really like the way the last few lines of the 3rd verse, especially, "Bet I really woulda loved your smile' in this song elude a rather heartbreaking ending. The love triangle in this story was literally in a wreck and a baby could have complicated the situation, even more. So, abortion seemed like the only fruitful route to opt, but obviously, Em feels wrong to do so, blaming his own actions in the 2nd verse, on the 'forbidden fruit' line, feeling bitter about the termination but realizing that the child would have been born in a lie, as nobody planned for the baby but when it became an actual probability they planned for an abortion. A baby should be brought to the world out of love, not through a spiteful plan. Sorry, for such a long comment, got overwhelmed when I saw your video analysis. By the way, I like your work as well. Much love from India.

THE EDM Flows just like a River
Knox, this has got to be one of my favorite breakdowns of yours ever. The way you kept paraphrasing and reconnecting the story and theme throughout the whole video and how his layered metaphors connect so deeply to the meta theme /story, for example I only ever thought that "wreck, tangled" was for the shape wordplay, I didn't even think of the unborn child being the 4th corner of their out-of-shape relationship, keep doing you Knox!! All my love and support!

As Ed comes to the part where he says, "Oh, little one!" and after that Em says, "I'm sorry", it feels like he's greatly deprived by the fact that he really had to abort the "little one" because of his sins(as Ed's hook states) so he's apologizing for the unborn child that he directly/indirectly considers the victim of his deeds.
Personal Em is my favorite. Been a fan since sslp and that's what I have always loved about him!!
