    We're back at Apple Annie's Produce & Pumpkins! Can you blame us? We love this place! However, despite going in the Autumn to pick our annual pumpkins, we've never gone during the summer when they have loads of fresh vegetables that you can pick straight from their farm. While there we saw plenty of okra, peppers, bell peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, summer squash, cucumbers and green beans. Tons of fun for the family to pick dinner straight from the plant and get some fresh air.

    After our farm visit, we were definitely starting to get hungry. Time for a picnic! Since we drove out all that way, what better way than to picnic on top of a mountain and Massai Point looking down at all the rhyolite formations in Chiricahua National Monument! It was a fantastic day with cool temperatures and soft breezes of fresh air (notice a theme here?). Our spread was a bit excessive but the meal and company were fantastic. Entrance into the park is still free so you can't go wrong.

    Before heading back to Phoenix, we decided since we were in the area to check out an old pioneer cemetery we've never visited before. You know us and our fascination with old pioneer relics. The Old Willcox Cemetery is located close to I-10 down a rather sandy dirt road. A high clearance vehicle might be preferred to get back there, but I imagine any car should be able to make the drive with some care. This old place feels out in the middle of nowhere and adds to the imagery of the Old West. Many old wooden grave markers are strewn about and located in the back of the cemetery is the grave of one of the Earp brothers! Warren Earp, the youngest brother, is said to have even partaken in the Earp's Vendetta Ride.

    All in all, it was a great day and a great chance to get out and do some things both new and old outdoors in our wonderful state.

      Chiricahua is something else. It's amazing something so unique exists right there in the middle of flat land that looks so different.

    Wow those vegetables were amazing!! That lunch looked great too! Looked like y'all had a very nice day of it.

      The vegetables were mutants! We bought just one zucchini and I made zucchini lasagna that had EIGHT SERVINGS. What the heck! Hahah!
      And the picnic was great. It might have been a lot but we definitely had choices and I will certainly remember it as being a great time. Kudos to Glenn's parents for bringing so many options!

    I haven't been to a 'you pick it' farm since I was a child...and who knew artichoke plants were so beautiful! :-) I enjoyed this video..

      Glenn and I actually grew up in the Midwest. While we didn't know each other as kids we actually both used to go to the same farm to pick apples with our families. So apple and pumpkin picking we've done but this was our first time picking veggies. And I know! The artichoke plants were gorgeous! Almost would want to plant some just for those purple blooms. 😅

    So cool seeing the whole family. Having a garden for the family would be nice. My dad had one & gave most away.

      It would be nice! Ever since getting that rose clipping and collecting a few more plants I think we're getting into the gardening thing. Veggies would be cool but we don't have the most room (and also live in a different zone from Apple Annie's). Thinking about growing berries though! 😅

    Glenn, best friend husband is a farmer. He says farming is the biggest gamble you will ever take in life, but he wants to die in his field working. Would not do anything else. Such a nice video with the family and those are truly the biggest vegetables I have ever seen. Are fire ants that bad in the rest of az? Were the pumpkins vines already planted?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 3 lety

      Honestly, those were the most amount of ants I've seen in Arizona.
      I imagine the pumpkins were probably planted somewhere but we didn't see them. Things rotate every year so we'll see where they are this year when we go back. We THINK we saw the area where the corn maze is going to be. Can't wait to go back for pumpkins but we'll see how things are come Sept/Oct.
