    I have had this machine for many years and love it, especially because of the purple! I have not had a problem with it. Yes, it is a little jiggly, but so am I and I work fine. Thanks for the video. There was something stuck and this video showed us how to get the hose off and get the pencil out. Now, we are back in business. :-) I am sure we will use your video again if we need help.

    My wife bought the DC15 brand new from Sears more than 13 years ago with the first paycheck she received from a new job. Super excited, as this was expensive for a young couple just starting out. We still have it, have replaced a flex hose, and have had the typical wire snap in the housing that prevented the brush bar from spinning. I replaced the broken wires with much thicker wires years ago, and has been running up until last weekend, when my wife and son tag-teamed the cleaning of an entry way carpet (my wife pushed the vacuum while my son held the head of the vacuum down against the carpet).
    Now the brush bar won't spin again. I'll be opening it up and looking for the issue this weekend. Fingers crossed for another easy repair.

    Got to say we have had ours from new about 10yrs old now, it has been truly abused by myself during building works etc, and apart from two flex hoses it has been perfect, I did at one time buy a dc44 as a replacement, what a piece of carp!, kept the original dc15 and also bought a refurbed dc15 to keep upstairs.

    Very futuristic and unusual design. I would love to have the DC15 in my collection. Very good looking vacuum. Not for use obviously because it looks like it's going to fall apart at any moment LOL

    Came across this video trying to find a tear down manual for the DC15. When I bought it I was hoping to get something that would last 7 or 10 years. 15 years on and it's getting tired but still working hard. I know that people "in the know" consider Dyson to be only an expensive cheap vacuum, butt this one had held up good for me.

    Lol, I just came across this vid searching for replacement brush rollers for my 2005 DC15... it still runs pretty good but the brushes are warn down so much it doesn't pickup dog hair off the throw rugs anymore. My wife won't use it because it's so heavy and unyielding, the 'wand' part is the most frustrating awkward POS I've ever seen/used. I'm a big strong guy and I feel like I've been in a cage match after doing a thorough clean of our 4000+ sqft house. My wife uses an old Kenmore canister vacuum on occasion, we purchase that in 1993, I've taken over vacuum duty since 'I' purchased the DC15 without consultation, I ordered two Dyson V8 cordless a year ago just to take a break from my DC15 workouts. Having two cats & two dogs, I thought a vacuum with the name 'Animal' has to be good... right? Haha, WRONG!

    If I was a collector I'd want one along with, hopefully, a ton of literature. Having funk in a collection sounds like fun.

    I bought my DC15 back in 2006 from Bed, Bath & Beyond as an employee, and I still use it to this day....much to my chagrin after seeing this, and similar videos. Early on, I knew I would need to replace the filters as no machine is as good as their marketing dept. claims. I have washed the machine religiously every 6 months, though again after watching a few of Performance Review's videos, I'm not getting it anywhere near as clean as i thought. I replaced the brush roller in 2014, and the filters (both pre and post motor) in 2011, 2016. Def. noticed dust gathering around the machine which gave me pause about using it and potentially replacing it, but I would take it apart, wash it, and keep on using it. I know that it could go a few more years but I'm more financially secure now than i was, and after watching reviews and giving more thought to how clean my house truly is, (and thanks to Performance Reviews videos) I'm contemplating a Miele Dynamic U1 Homecare or a Riccar R40P. Thanks for the great videos!

    I remember when this came out.What a poor design to have dust passing through the circuit board. The dc17 would have been a better choice.

  • @patrickdawson3960
    @patrickdawson3960 Před 3 lety

    I remember seeing the DC15 when it was new and was shocked by the twisting and creaking of the plastic parts, as well as the noise, which made me think something was wrong with the example I was using. I didn't think it cleaned all that well, and it certainly wasn't agile, which it was advertised as being. I had no idea they'd placed a circuit board in the duct, so I learned something more this morning about how bad this machine was! It was interesting but so unpleasant to use and so expensive I never considered getting one, even as a collector.

    I still have the dc 15 mine is yellow !! I have taking very good care of it but you are right it is heavy and shaky but bets buying a new one . I do have a few questions does the ball come apart and is there even a reason to take it apart ? Also there is a little hook at bottom on the r/side that is easy to see but I actually just saw it after all these years lol .I am not sure what this is for but it looks like its suppose to be hooked up inside but maybe came loose .I do have a pic of it ..Thank you so much for this video lots of good info to know .

I am currently researching Miele. Any model you recommend? I live in a split levels home with 2 Yorkies. Thanks for your videos awesome!

    I wonder: if there were a cover for the circuit board, in the duct work, would it not fail while at the same time not restricting airflow and or reducing performance?

    I have a dc15. I'm a vacuum collector so I don't really use it. I just have it because it's an interesting piece of history. It was never a consideration for a main vacuum because my eureka the boss smart vac and Kirby G6 hold that spot pretty firmly.

  • @fro2905

    I got this 14 years ago or so. It’s been the best vacuum I’ve ever had. Use it till this day & it performs wonderfully. Only problem I had was when my dog bit into the cord & I replaced that myself so it’s been great. Was looking to upgrade to see if there’s something even better out technology wise & wasn’t sure if I should upgrade to the Animal 2 or Cinetic. What do you think?

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  Před 4 lety +1

      Technology-wise I'd say the miele U1 is leaps & bounds above anything Dyson is doing. Dyson's been on a slow decline since the dc27. If you bought a new Dyson you could expect it to have about half as much power. Unfortunately parts are discontinued for the dc15 now so do be cautious.

  • @ZacharyCrowe
    @ZacharyCrowe Před 6 lety +1

    That is amazing that they thought it would be a good idea to place that board in the air pathway. All the static electricity and dirt . . ridiculous!

    I have one of the originals DC15, always loved it. The switch started to have problems in getting sweeper to stay on - - punch switch just right and it would work. Of late, 2021 now, the roller bar needed cleaning, then there was no suction as though there was blockage - the book tells nothing about the parts - or valve - and cannot figure out how to get the head off that holds the roller bar. - Presently looking to buying a NEW SWEEPER - NOT SURE WHAT KIND will do the job on rugs and hardwood floors. I also have the Dyson DC 11 canister - - but so bungle some to drag around Can anyone recommend a Brand. I’ve been married 51 years Started out with a ‘Kirby’ :D

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  Před 3 lety

      Generally if you are looking to replace it even broken put that thing on eBay somebody will need the parts. A Miele U1 or SEBO Felix would probably be the closest thing. As the newer dysons do not perform nearly as well. Links in the description as well.

    I have one. :( It isn't working. Took me awhile to get the $$$$$ together to buy it. Wanted to buy something good quality. So bummed it's just another piece of crap. Just started watching videos on how to fix it. Thanks for the info.

  • @coydog7902

    Weird how you can fix this with Hoover and DC14 parts

  • @retrogamer149
    @retrogamer149 Před 5 lety +1

    After watching you and a few other vids I'll probably never buy a bagless plastic made in China vacuum ever again. Even cheap bagged vacuum cleaner such as the hoover windtunnel t series should be avoided. I bought one, it felt like it was gonna call apart when I tried it on my carpet. Even the brushroll felt like it was gonna quit along with the motor. So basically from what I gather if you want what dyson promises buy s sebo or miele.

  • @ToonsAl

    I have a DC15. The canister broke off a part of the plastic so it won't lock into place now. Any idea where I can purchase just a new canister?
    Does any other Dyson model's canister fit as a replacement?

    • @PerformanceReviews

      Give your local vacuum store a call. The cyclone and Bin are interchangeable with a dc14

    Eh its the first of something. I am sure a lot of things that are the first of something will come with lots of flaws. The first light bulb for example produced too much heat. But I am sure the DC15 preforms well.

  • @Jirickk

    What the hell is this :D It's a crazy designed vacuum cleaner. Dyson also must have something special and unusual. Please make a video of Electrolux UltraSilencer which is near the stairs :) Here in Europe it's a very common and favourite vacuum cleaner but the accesories and powerhead isn't in good quality :/

      @@PerformanceReviews if the motherbored goes bad on the dc15 would that cause the dc15 to trip a house breaker then the dc15 wont power on again till replaced? im getting a dc15 animal that a few years ago tripped the guys house breaker and it never turned back on im hoping its somthing like a shorted cord but could the motherbored do that if it were to go bad
