  • Research DIY rust protection for my Landcruiser 105 before the next Fraser trip I came across Lanox MX-4 from Inox. Is it working? Not sure yet I applied it a few days before the trip and will post the results after the trip. The great benefit I can see that everyone can apply this easily at home for a pretty reasonable price. Let's see how good it is.

Was this the only form of protection you had? How long beforehand did you apply it?

I work with chemicals and water and spray my tools ruffly 3-4 months with lanox. Because it lasts alot longer than anything else I’ve tried.
I’ve not been able to get it to dry fully.
I usually spray on Friday afternoon and wipe down on Sunday when packing bag for work

I have used Lanotec in aerosol form which I imagine does the same thing, available from SCA.John Rooth & ASPW did a sort of a promo video for it.

So far it works very well, have have driven trough 2 days of torrential rain ☔️ and the Lanox has not worn off like a few people and predicted.

I used to use this, I think it was $120 for the 4 or 5lt bottle back then from Bursons who were the only ones selling it. Doesn't quite dry and the sand sticks to it even after you wash it.The stuff did last a while though and does have a pretty good coating. Worst part is, where I take my bike for servicing is right next to distributor and the don't sell to public...lol..

@@AlloffroadAu something I didn't mention was I applied mine with a weed sprayer that you can pressurise.. really easy to get into all those hard to reach places...

How did you go getting it off your glasses (spectacles) afterwards?
I use a garden pump sprayer to cover mine. Quick and clean
Also if you spray some at the base of your windscreen (runs down inside the back of the front guards and around the top of the back door and all around the tailgate to prevent salt contacting the metal
When dry, a good coat of saltx over the whole vehicle and just wipe the windows clean
A little in the windscreen washer bottle so you are spraying saltX on the windscreen every time you wash it to get the salt spray off
Then another good dose upon returning from Fraser
    My humble advice

Good tip, Inever heard of saltx but just looked it up that sounds good. Seems like a spray with saltx then rainbow beach car wash and a redo with Lanox is the way to go. Sprayed Lanox around tailgate, sill, guards etc

AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV you can cover the vehicle with saltx before you do to help neutralise the salt as it cakes on the vehicle

    Did it dry fully?
I tried a similar product gave it 3 weeks to dry but still had sand stick to the underbody. I think the trick is to apply sparingly and use a rag to rub it in

Try the aerosol. I find the aerosol can of lanox way easier to apply and being pressurised helps it get into all the nooks and crannys and uses a lot less to do a neater job. I tried the hand spray you have once and will never again.

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 4 lety

I can see aerosol being easier to apply would go trough a few cans, the spray bottle provided worked quite well though

Takes me 1.5 cans each time. Such better coverage

I probably should have cleaned it before application but car was reasonably clean so just went with that.

i think you find that any oil based under body protection won’t last that long. i have a video of a professional under body protection the use in the mine. that did last much longer but also needs yearly touch ups.
