Did the mod on a 2009. sounds awsome considering the price. I did buy a dremel tool. thanks for the idea and the video!

just sold my Honda VTR 1000 with leo vince sbk slipon and got myself a V- strom.. that vtr sounded really really great, but damn on our weekend rides here in Norway that was a pain for my ears after several miles with that loud roaring.. The strom is so much nicer to my ears and it's easier to hear what my friends say when talking to them in my scala rider.. I'll keep it stock 😊

Sounds good at idle; any chance you have video of the DL on acceleration /deceleration and drive by at speed? Thank for sharing!

I just cut mine just at the weld with a dremel cutting disc. Put the cover back on and had a similar effect.... saw that mod on another youtube video... both get a change in engine note

This doesn't effect the "engine tuning" at all? (not sound tuning, lol)

hey, good job, is it altering the power and thus turning into an insurance thing? I'm asking as I have a new vstrom 650 and want to change the sound as well.

Sound is very nice now! I've got 2 questions:
    1) Additional modifications such as are change valve clearance or throttle valve sync. are required?
    2) In long rides (more than 300miles) don't you get headache due to louder exhaust pipe?
    Best regards

No, sound is not an issue. It is not that loud on the bike. As for tuning.. it is always a good idea to have everything tuned after a mod. That said... I did not and the bike runs just fine. I actually thing I am getting a little bit better fuel mileage now.

***** This has nothing to do with the valves clearance checks, and because it such a minor reliving of pressure no remapping would be needed like say a full system swap, the stock map is adapting enough to work fine, even with a slip on most of the time; ) the FI sync is done a per recommended in the manual. Hope that helps, you can go to the forums for stuff like this too, you may get a different response thou, just maybe ?

Still good, no negative issues that I can see. Sounds better but not to loud. Yes I would do it again.

i been watching guys do this. A hole saw works better, but whatever gets that 3/4" pipe out of there. You are right, there are 2 pipes stepping down to one...makes the bike more of a compressor..so your releaving backpressure, the egr works less hard, and i had a DG but it was too loud and annoying mids tone. I also like the large expansion chamber the stock muffler has..Also, the fiberglass can get sucked into your motor on cheap packings, as a stock mod has no fiberglass to get sucked into the head pipe.

Why make a bike so anti social, why ruin a decent quiet well performing exhaust,? I can never get my head around these 'louder must be better' riders, each to their own I guess?👍

To answer the main quetions here,
Yes it will effect the engine.
Yes in some countries this will effect insurane.
Any time you make a modification that makes the engine breathe better you will need to increase fuel flow.. will you need to do it in your specific case?
Well it depends on many factors from altitude to RON of the fuel you use, even your current valve clearance. at the end of the day the only real way to know is to dyno after the change.
