I went to my friend Andrew Tan Tsun Wen (aka Drewscape)'s place to watch him grind a Parallel Pen. Andrew's website drewscape.blogs... #pilotpen #calligraphypen #diy
On the pilot parallel there are slight indentions on either side of the plate which make a small Channel. when you ground it down you removed it so the plates are close together and they are inhibiting ink flow try the 1.5 mm and leave the divot
Great video!! I would probably never grind this pen or any pen for that matter, but you two made it seem like fun and so entertaining. I love this video. Thanks for making it. You guys are so funny. 😄 I did appreciate the step by step instructions and knowing exactly what tools you need to accomplish this task. Your videos are always so thoughtful and thorough. Thanks!!
This was pretty fun to watch, if not exactly a smooth demo! I wish I'd seen a video before I did it, but yeah, that's just how it goes when modifying the parallel pen.. Trial and error, lots of testing and time. I cut mine about a year ago, inspired by Drew, some calligraphers on Instagram and the radius cut pens from John Neal Booksellers. Thanks!

Haha. This was very entertaining even though it was sort of a fail. I was intrigued at the DIY modification and was linked to this video from someone else's blog. Now I know not to try this as it'd likely go wrong even more for me. xD
fellas, leave the Pilot parallel pen just the way it is! alterations are personal preferences...you may not like how fast your ink will run out using this method...just buy another pen!

Hello and thank you for this vid. Have you tried making and oblique 30 degree cut on these pens, so that it can be used for arabic calligraphy?
