A really comprehensive video, I like the way they can be stripped down for cleaning when needed.
This video is very helpfull, especially part about diffrent methods to add ink.
Superb video, remarkable for clarity and completeness. Thanks very much,
The best video and more full of pilot parallel pen
Perfect. THnk you so much. I've been contemplating this style of pen.
Lovely review. One of my favorite pens, thanks for showing the splatter effect. Inspiring!
This was such a thorough and helpful video. So excited so learn I can use my own inks in the Parallel! I think I may have to get the other two sizes now. I can see how the 6.0 will be a fun way to play with all my shimmery ink samples. Thank you so much! 😊
This is one of the most helpful pen reviews I’ve even seen! 😊 Thank you! 👍
Yay! I'm so happy to hear that :)
All her reviews are great and speak to anyone from beginner to experts love it
Very well done! I'm sold❣️
Thanks! I haven't used my Parallel Pens for ages, and now I need to get them out and ready! I love them too!
Fantastic! Loved it! Super video to make it less intimidating to use these pens. Thanks!
Really helpful, thank you. Pretty art you created, too. 😊
Super cool!!! Thanks Azizah!!
Thank you for that video ! Really got a good idea about which pen I’d like to get !
Received mine this morning and didn't realise that had to push the cartridge in at the wide end. Lols.
Amazing pen and will be buying the entire set. Thanks for sharing your video. Peace out
Hi Azizah, thank you for making this video; very informative and interesting. Ifound it very useful.
Fantastic tutorial! 👏🏼 Dabbing into the wet lines is such a great idea for mixing the inks. Thanks muchly!
Glad it was helpful!
That is fantastic! Thank you for a terrific review and instructions. I’ve been considering a set, and that just made up my mind.
This is cool. Thanks. The splatter gives me life.
I was mesmerized by your writing with these pens. 😍
Excellent review! I wanted a reason why I need to have ink that sparkles and sheen ...and the pens of course 😉
My friend has literally just had his first parallel arrive in the post today so this is perfect timing!
AND to call myself experienced... Never fill up your pen all the way it needs air...... thats explains my little troubles when I write.... and the ink priming tip.... little method, BIG RESULT I Tried it just now.... mind BLOWN!!!!
THANKYOUSOMUCHLOVE!!!!!
this was super helpful- thank you!
Nicely done. Thank you!
Thank you! Very useful - need to get my parallels out to play!
That was so beautiful, and useful too =D Thank you, Azizah.
Thank you so much for your tutorial it was so informative and useful. I’ve had these blue “things” that turned out to be sort of “pipettes” for cleaning my pilot pens. I had no idea what they were till I saw you explaining their use in the video. I guess I never took noticed when I first got the pens years ago. Thanks again
amazing video. This is the kind of thorough explanation i like in videos. Sure its a bit long and i must confess i skipped the first 7 ish minutes to get into the hands on part. It wasnt as dreary and slow as many lengthy videos tend to get either. The pace was good. I learned a lot. THanks.!
I did experiment with my parallelles very briefly when I first got them quite a long while ago.. I need to get them out and play with them again! I didn't even know they could totally come apart..
I find your videos fun, inspiring and informative.. thanks for sharing
YES! Keep them out, keep them inked and have fun! Thanks so much for your support and I'm really glad you enjoy this :D
Great video, thanks for sharing.
You are a Joy to watch!
Thank you
Thank you so much. I recently purchased a parallel for a calligraphy class. Now I want the whole set. I was directed to purchase a "custom" nib size, 3.0, which is also available (Paper Ink and Arts is one place) though I think any size would have worked for a class. I learned so much here.
Thanks for this tutorial! I felt intimidated when I saw the instruction pamphlet. I have a better understanding of how to use my parallel. :D
Thanks for this very useful!
Thank you for this video!
Thank you, Azizah, very helpful!
Used to have the 1:5 now I would like to have all of them, thanks for the super review!
The 6 is really cool
Thank you, Azizah.
This was wonderful! I saw these in a local pen shop and had no idea what they were or how to use them. Thank you for all of the detail and thoughtful instruction you provided.
My pleasure! I'm so happy to hear this was useful :)
Great information, thanks
That was great!
So helpful, thank you so much for this great walkthrough :)
Thanks so much, there are some awful videos on this pen - this is comprehensive and clear, an instant sub from me!
Super super helpfull! Thank you so much 🙏💓
Bellissima presentazione utile ed interessante. I use them for work, great product at an affordable price, you can also get particular effects by cutting portions of the nib.
Obsessed! Thank you:)
Nice review thanks 👍🏼😃👍🏼
Excellent video!!
Thanks for the great video. Now I'm so tempted to get some pilot parallels for myself. Wished I had handwriting like yours!
Totally worth investing in them. I have so much fun I actually enjoy practicing!
I bought a parallel a few hours ago and I'm already in love with it! Having a lot of fun using it to learn Gothic lettering :)
Thank you for this review. I have those pens, but didn't understand the gradation (well, didn't take the time to read the instructions ;-) ). Also - I really appreciate your sense of humor - and your calligraphy skills...
Thank you Marie! My skills need endless work but it's so much fun!
Thank you for going into more detail! I've had my eyes on these for a while but didn't really understand the point to them. You've just solidified my decision. Which would you say is your favorite size? Do you need to apply a lot of pressure to really get them to work or does it just look that way?
They flow quite well with a light touch - I tend to use a heavier hand when I am trying to pull out some inky shading or make very careful, calculated lines :D
Very cool.
I just started using those pens and thank you for the wonderful info it’s very helpful .my cartridges running out very fast and I was thinking of buying “ink “ but not sure which ones to buy can recommend anything that would be helpful. Thank you 😊
Very helpful review. I had a bit of trouble pushing the ink cartridge on? Your review style is so fun and natural. Keep it up!
Mixing the ink when it is already on the page is a pro move. I will definitely steal that :-)
GOOD
JOB!!
Hey, thanks for sharing this video! Can you recommend inks that are lightfast and can be used with the PPP?
Thank´s for a very good video!
Thank you dear! Now Ill be getting me a parallel! ..... Now ill go have myself ... some Haggis!
great vid . can you recommend a black ink for use with a converter ?
I like this..very helpful. Now, can u tell me what type of paper to get for this? My paper was soaked too quickly
Hey gal, whe you said " recycle" rightaway the first thing that came to my mind is that you are owesome! Thanks for the video!
Great Video... Have ordered a full set... What Inks would you recommend for use with these and more importantly what Inks would you not??
Thanks for this great video! Where`s the silocon grease for???
I'm going to be getting one of these this week, but had a couple of questions, and wondered if you had some thoughts on the matter. I've seen that others have used FW Acrylic ink (black mainly, with varying degrees of success with other colours, based on pigment type), which isn't 'normal' to the pen, so I am going to assume that something like Dr. PH Martin's Hydrus liquid watercolour would work in the pen, or even the Liquitex acrylic ink? What about India ink?
Hey, thanks for this video! May I ask:
I want to write a certificate. Which paper is suitable for this and which lightfast ink can you recommend?
Thank you for a great video! what kind of paper is recomended?
I had buyed too 👍
Where can you get the silicon grease? Both in small containers and in bulk (small) to put in tiny containers?
I just ordered these. I ordered the cartridges bc I didn't know what would actually fit them to use the ink jars. I'm completely new to all of this, plus I've never seen you in my feed before.....so I guess the google gods are watching ....at least this was a good matchup
Will these take any pilot cartridges (iroshizuku, for example)? Or are the parallel cartidges different?
Thank you.
I'm new to calligraphy but already falling head over heels with my new hobby!! I opened my 3.8 parallel pen this morning & had a blast following along w the Lynda.com tutorial on Intro to Lettering (highly recommend for beginners!).
I just wish I had found your video first, because I felt pretty unsure of all the components when I was first screwing it all together. But it wasn't as scary as I thought, I was worried I'd break the thing and send ink flying across the room, but it was actually quite easy to set up.
Really appreciate your in depth demo on all the ways to fill the pen, although I wish you would have explained why you used the grease on the threads for the last inking method.
I subbed to your channel & can't wait to watch more vids from you. as someone else mentioned, there are a ton of really crappy tutorials on this amazing pen. I'm sure other people would appreciate if you made a few more videos on it, like how to clean it, or showing all of the different size nibs in action. Or comparing it to other pens commonly recommended for beginners. thank you!
Welcome to a great hobby! I just want to show you, as well all who reads it, this excellent series on italic calligraphy and handwriting. It's the best thing I've found the last few years on CZcams.

@@gertahnstrom784 Thanks so much for this reference. Exactly the type of tutorial I have been looking for!
Bought the new 40 converter and I can not get it to suck up. I get about 4mm. What am I doing wrong please.
Thanks for detail explain. Mam, May I ask you which ink is the best for wring calligraphy I’m black and red colour?
most fountain pen inks work well. i like Aurora Black and Montblanc Corn Poppy Red!
Wow, I ask a question about parallels and the next day get a great video! (_total_ coincidence I'm sure)
:D
Also, how long does a cartridge usually last you? after the Lynda tutorial my pen stopped working. I used the little black film strip to clean the plates, and ink appeared on it. but when I put the pen to paper, the ink won't flow. I'm not sure if I've managed to clog it in the first 2 hours, or if the cartridges just run out quickly. I will disassemble it tmw and try to rinse it w some water & see if that helps. I still have my red cartridge so hopefully that one will work once I've cleaned out the black ink.
I use up ink pretty quickly. If it's not writing, it's probably empty :) The ink cartridges don't really clog these pens up.
This was a very useful video. Thank you so much for making it. I did not know parallels were so much fun. you mentioned that the 1.5 could be used as a daily writer. how smooth are the plates? is it better to use say for e.g. a twisbi eco 1.1 stub for writing purposes?
The Parallel is definitely sharper on the corners than a TWSBI stub. It depends on what kind of writing style you have. The parallel would require more attention when you're writing to make sure you don't catch the plate corners on the paper so the in that regard the TWSBI stub is much easier to use :)
thank you.
what kind of converter do you use for your parallel pen? I mean, the size or the model.
Awesome video and it helped me a lot. I was wondering if there was a way to reduce ink flow? I have the same problem like you when you ending a stroke and the ink kind clutters up in the end.... creating a stroke can could have been much sharper if it didn't had that much ink/
Using ink cartridges can help reduce the flow a little, especially if you stick to Pilot's cartridges. They are a little on the dry side.
@@gourmetpens Well, i have many original cartridges and have found out that different paper can help a bit but i have bought a bottle of noodlers inks black feather and this one is holding up pretty well and seems a bit thicker then the normal ink so guess i have fix it :) Thanks for the reply anyways.
Just ordered mine and I'm interested in cursive script for tattoo stencils. I'm seeing more gothic fonts, "old english" than cursive lol. Maybe i need to go Copperplate or go home 😕
What if I still have ink on the cartridge and I'm done using it for now. Do I leave the cartridge in?
You can leave it in - it'll dry out via evaporation over time, but these pens are quite robust and can be cleaned quite easily, even if that happens. Otherwise, you can remove the cartridge and throw it away and flush the pen out :)
did you say the name of the shimmering ink? I love it and the way you combined inks.
Red ink is Robert Oster Shake & Shimmy Red Gold! Sorry I should have put them in and totally forgot.
I'm wondering about getting the pen apart to refill it after you've put silicone grease on the threads. Can you just unscrew the pen like you could before the addition of silicone grease?
Yes you can! I just clean the grease with a towel and reapply if needed. It will get dirty with ink in it but it'll still function.
@@gourmetpens Thanks so much.
Question.... So I don't need an O ring ? But just the silicon grease to turn these into a eye dropper pen? 🤔
I don't use an O-ring - just grease.
Thank you ! wish i could give you more than one like...
Thank you for your like AND comment
Thanks, Azizah -- you introduced some things I hadn't considered and I've never fully disassembled a Pilot Parallel before. Btw: I thought pen disassembly was supposed to result in a Scottish accent and a craving for Haggis! ? :)
I should have brought him in as a guest!
He'd have been welcome, but you did quite well yourself!
Btw: I thought Lord Winderemere was going to leap out of his lair on the book/ink shelf onto your right shoulder. 'twould have been entertaining to see you jump in surprise but I wouldn't have wished it on you!
So, the Con-40 will fit perfectly on parallel pen, but how about the Con-50? Will it be as well? Thanks
Yes it does!
@@gourmetpens thank you very much. Will use either con-40 or if i still can find, the con-50. Thank you very much once again
Can we use vaseleelne petroleum jelly instead of this grease
No, petroleum jelly is not good in the place of silicone grease
10:27 filling converter CON 40 pilot parallel pen.
which converters would fit this pen? con-50 , con-70 . any affordable options?
I use the CON50 or as an eyedropper. The new converter CON40 is supposed to fit.
@@gourmetpens I tried this but he amount of ink drawn up by the CON50 is very little.
Can you please post the name of the link. The green one
Colorverse Shrodinger Green!
Sorry to be a pain. What's the ink you used in the pen at 13 min 58 sec?
yikes i can’t remember, sorry!
Does the give feedback while writing. Bcz it does not seem smooth
It definitely gives feedback! But it is smooth enough that it does not catch the page unless you turn to the corners
Well done aziza, quite a comprehensive review. But I have one doubt though you might have covered it in the review.
Q) does the ink mixing between two parallel pens work only for the mixable inks that pilot provides or between any two inks. Say I have a pelikan brown ink in one and a Waterman red ink in another? Would it still work between two different company inks?
Thank you.
I cannot say this is safe or wise but i mix any inks when in Parallels. I wouldn’t mix IN a pen but for gradients and dabbing ink on the page I have no problem mixing different brands.
@@gourmetpens thank you. Yes I meant the dabbing of the nibs and not the actual mixing of the liquids. :)
@@gourmetpens hey reply me whenever you feel free but you seem to be an expert on pilot parallels so I need to ask you this. Have you ever filled noodlers bulletproof ink inside pilot parallel and do you feel it is ok to do so?
Don't cross the threads. "It would be bad." (Egon)
"it looks hideous" i LoL'd then subbed! Plus you sold these pens. I bought the set on eBay! :-)
WOO! Hope you're enjoying them!! Thank you for subbing and for your support!
What is that red ink at the end?
Red ink is Robert Oster Shake & Shimmy Red Gold!
Beautiful ink. Thanks :)
OLD VIDEO LOVE THIS IS ALSO FUCKING DOPE AS SSSSSHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Gradiation aka Consensual Nib Smootches XD
How hard do you press while using the Parellel?
Not too hard usually. If I am trying to squeeze out some extra inkyness, I'll press a little harder to make it wetter but for the most part, it doesn't need it.
