Patrick Bamford tells amazing story about Marcelo Bielsa's 'Murderball' tactics

  • What is Marcelo Bielsa like as a manager? What is he like as a man? The enigmatic Argentinian is a legend of the game who has influenced the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino, as well as a private man who mostly ignores the media to focus on football.
His players, however, know him well. Patrick Bamford is one such player, and we sat down with him recently to talk all things Bielsa.
How does he get such commitment and effort from his players? Does anyone watch more football than him? (clue: no) How hard is pre-season training under him? The answer is extremely hard.
Sit down and enjoy 9 and a half minutes of unadulterated Bielsa.

Leeds has been affected a lot this season by the absence of Bamford,

I love how he's reflecting his thoughts before giving an answer instead of reciting trivial, empty phrases, as most professional players do in the Top 5 European Leagues. He does not seem posh or even arrogant to me, he's just a smart, polite, decent lad. I'd almost say he's my favourite contemporary player in English football right now. All the best for Leeds Utd this season, it's a club that should definitely be part of the Premiership. Even though I'm a bit sad than Marcelo Bielsa had to go. Greetings from Germany from an admirer of English football (or British football in general, Scotland has got some impressive clubs and lovely stadiums as well...and there are clubs such as Swansea City and Wrexham in Wales or Linfield FC in Northern Ireland)
