I'm sorry for him...he sounds and looks so deeply hurt for not achieving the promotion. He probably thought he had let the fans down and dissapointed them , but all the Leeds fans know how much passion and hard work Bielsa had put in trying to achieve that goal...OK, when you do your best and even more and finally you don't succeed, you should have inner peace knowing the football gods had plans for other clubs that season and there would be a new chance the next one for Leeds...and it finally happened, after waiting 16 years ! Thanks, Master !

From the moment he speaks the first sentence you can see how upset he is, for all his tactics that demand so much of players, the human and emotional aspect of coming so close and failing is raw here. What I like about this clip is that with the music and sombre atmosphere it feels like something from a movie.. old lone guy walking rather helplessly around. He never looks straight up and seems locked in his own world. Going into empty spaces with no life, no hope. That swimming pool at the end - Bielsa actually had to campaign for the club to fill it up with some water! It costs 250,000 quid a year to run. It had been left empty for years to save money (since Ridsdale). Bielsa said to the club that it sent out a poor signal to everyone if you can’t even run your own swimming pool. He told them to fill it up. I think that was last year and then they got promoted to the Premier League.

Leeds fans....what you have to understand about Bielsa...is that he does not train a group of players to be champions....he trains them to maximize their potential as players and persons. His first season, he taught a group of players that were going nowhere.....and made them BETTER. Great improvement...but ran out of gas at the end. Second season, the team was SOLID already....and they showed it. CHAMPIONS. in the Premier the team will only get better. Coaches, players and office are a UNIT.
Leeds will continue to be better and better ....until they are good enough to win the PL and the Champions.
Remember....under Bielsa EFFORT IS NOT NEGOTIABLE, and the players KNOW IT.

And he did !

Just when you thought you couldn't like someone anymore, this comes along.
I watched my first Leeds game, aged 13 in 1986, shit team at the time but that didn't matter, just hearing the kop chanting as we were getting close (probably an hour before the game even started) and I was hooked from that point. I went for years still, but about 10 years ago, I just fell out with football, and what a disgusting joke it had become.
From wages to blatant diving, arsehole chairmen and rip off prices, I thought fuck it, I can't watch a game without seeing 50 dives an hour and it's not fun, so just stopped watching it.
People couldn't believe that ME of all people didn't watch football anymore. And neither could I, but because I couldn't ignore it all anymore, like a lot of my mates did (some even admitted that if they didn't have football, life would be too shit) I had to stop watching it. I'd always see how Leeds were doing, and maybe catch a game here and there, but that was it.
And that's how it would have stayed, but for one thing, making Marcelo Bielsa our Manager.
I'm going to be honest, I didn't even know who he was when we signed him, but in two years, he has restored my faith in at least one man, and one football club.
It wouldn't have mattered if we'd been promoted under Ken Bates, I still wouldn't have got back into football, but he hasn't just got us promoted, ha has brought back an old school honesty about everything he does, and people actually like to be decent, it's just hard when you're surrounded by scheming liars, I guess that's why he walked from some of his other jobs within days.
I even like every single player in our squad ffs, and there's always one or two that you don't like all that much isn't there?
He's brought with him more than he'll ever know, The City of Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa have been the perfect match, honest as they come and a tad misunderstood.
The most enormous thank you to Andrea Radrizzani for making this all possible, and for actually being a nice guy with it.
This legacy will live on forever in Leeds now, he is folklore, just like Don and Billy. MOT

Good story but I have questions. When Leeds signed Marcelo Bielsa, what was it that made you change your mind and start watching Leeds again? Did you start watching from his first game in charge? Or did you wait until you found out that Leeds were playing great football and winning?

    • @mrnobody4237
      @mrnobody4237 Před 3 lety +10

      @@CB-xr1eg Hello Clive.
I think as soon as we signed him I started looking into him, and listening to what he was saying in any interviews, and thought he seemed and sounded like an honest man. And I liked what I saw.
Whilst researching him I found about the style of football he liked to play etc, and liked it even more.
I did did watch the first game on a stream, or FB, and loved what I was seeing, then the way they beat Derby 4-1 blew me away.
I'm gonna be totally honest now. I''d always had a bit of a doubt about how much a manager can influence a team and make them better. Even after Pep and Jurgen, as they'd both spent shit loads of money, and I hadn't seen the change with my own eyes, as I wasn't watching football anymore.
But he pretty much took the same team and made them into championship superstars, in a matter of months.
So he's not only got me loving to watch my beloved Leeds again (still don't watch anyone else) he's proved me 100% wrong on the power of a good manager.
I can't really describe it, but he's brought respectability back to our club, and as he's probably one of the most talked about managers in the WORLD right now and with a bit of luck, Marcelo Bielsa's influence and decency will rub off on clubs and fans all over the world.
There's not a chance next season is going to finish, due to the pre planned second wave of bullshit, but fuck it eh ALAW?

I'm glad there are so many people out there that feel about Bielsa the way I do. I started watching football when Ronaldinho started shining with Barcelona, back in 2004. I was young and didn't care much about football but watching that genius gave me uncontrollable joy.
I'd sit in my living room to watch and would jump and scream at the TV, something I had never done before.
Anyway, fast forward to 2012 when Bielsa got to Bilbao, I was watching Messi and La Liga and came across his famous 1 hr press conference in which is explains in detail how he had planned all the training ground refurbishment to be carried out during the summer, and how it ended with him auto-denouncing himself to the police for man-handling one of the workers at the training ground.
I was so impressed by the way he spoke, how hard he worked, how honest he was with the whole thing, how knowledgeable he was about everything he was talking about and how relatable he was in general.
I had seen his team in action against Barcelona and remember Guardiola saying in press conference that it was one of the best matches he's played in years (ended 2-2).
Since then I've done more and more research into him and every story and every anecdote makes more and more impressive.
Fast forward to 2020 and he has promoted LUFC to the PL. At this point i wasn't surprised but incredibly happy for him and for Football. The sport really needs more people like him. Let's hope his influence extends to a wave of new managers in the short to mid-term and cement His style.

People, do you know why Bielsa doesn't get a better translator? BECAUSE IT DOES NOT EXIST!! Because Bielsa has a precision in the use of the Spanish language to express complex ideas, which in a single sentence can synthesize several ideas added in the answer, the guys end up with their heads burned as is visible. Let's agree that translating Bielsa is not the same as translating Messi for example. For this reason, it is very difficult for Bielsa to become proficient in the English language and to flow at the level he needs to clearly express his precise reasoning.

There are high level professionals interpreting (not translating) very complex ideas in the sciences, governments etc therefore I disagree with your assertion that ‘IT DOES NOT EXIST’. The guy isn’t engaging in deep philosophical discourse to the level of Sam Harris for example - he’s talking about football! Granted, he’s a thinker and he probably would struggle to convey the same message in another language with the same ‘precision’ and nuance but that does not mean his message cannot be conveyed clearly - remember, he’s coaching football players about football not biochemical engineering to PHD students!!!!

The Derby incident he immediately said he made a mistake and apologised for not learning the English customs. Then when the fine came in paid it out of his own pocket. Never gloats when we do well and even after we have thrashed a team he always finds something to complement the other side on. even when we won the championship he tried to stay in the background and let the players take the glory.
