- DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Felipe Nasr delivered the first Rolex 24 At Daytona overall win for team owner Roger Penske in 55 years and the first for Porsche in 14 years, in an exciting conclusion Sunday to the iconic endurance sports car race.
Driving the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963 that he shared with co-drivers Dane Cameron, Matt Campbell and reigning Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden, Nasr crossed the finish line 2.112 seconds ahead of the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac Racing Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Tom Blomqvist, who was aiming to become just the second driver in Rolex 24 history to be an overall winner three straight years.
Nasr took the lead for the final time when the No. 7 Porsche crew gave him a quicker pit stop than the No. 31 Cadillac crew could manage for Blomqvist under a full-course caution with 43 minutes remaining. Blomqvist hounded Nasr for the last half-hour but could never get close enough to attempt a pass for the lead.
Team owner Penske’s last win at the Rolex 24 came in 1969 when Mark Donohue and Chuck Parsons drove a Lola T-70/Chevrolet to victory. A Penske entry also claimed a class win in 1966. Porsche’s last overall win came in 2010, when the Action Express Racing Riley-Porsche driven by Joao Barbosa, Terry Borcheller, Ryan Dalziel and Mike Rockenfeller triumphed. Ironically, Action Express also entered the No. 31 Cadillac that finished second on Sunday.
Blomqvist, who won in 2022 and ’23 with Meyer Shank Racing, finished second overall and in the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class with Action Express co-drivers Pipo Derani and Jack Aitken. Blomqvist will drive full-time this year for Meyer Shank in the IndyCar Series and the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup events in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac.
The No. 18 Era Motorsport took the victory in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class with co-drivers Dalziel, Dwight Merriman, Christian Rasmussen and Connor Zilisch. The No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 claimed victory in the Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) class with drivers Daniel Serra, Davide Rigon, Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado. Winward Racing’s No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 was victorious in the Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) class, the car shared by Russell Ward, Philip Ellis, Indy Dontje and Daniel Morad.
The next WeatherTech Championship race is the 72nd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 16 at Sebring International Raceway. - Sport
The Rolex 12H of commercials. Cut to commercials as the 6 car slides off, wtf. I pay for this and I have to ask myself, why? Why do I need to see ads for the Daytona 24 hours while I watch the Daytona 24 hours. You know what I want to hear and see? Cars on track.
A thing sports broadcasting used to understand is when to use those ad breaks and not wreck the experience.
This was the first time I ever watched a 24H Daytona race, and I didn't even know how. I ended up throwing on a VPN and watching the global stream on IMSA's website. It had very little commercials. I think it was just an advertisement to start the stream, but my adblocker stopped it as well.
Yeah getting a VPN is huge. Zero commercials with the expectation of a 15second one that didnt even actually play at the start of the stream
Didnt you guys notice that there were 3 other classes...
3 minutes of a 24 hours race.. wow
Too bad no one online could witness the epic batle for 3rd in LMP2 in the last 30mins
IMSA not covering LMP2 adequately has been a problem for a long time.
That drove me nuts. Scotty Mac got into third and then dropped back, that whole 3-way dice was ignored. This needs to be addressed.
Outstanding race weekend...thanks for bringing all the good content and insights!
Your TV coverage is more like a talk show with some racing in the background. Absolutely awful.
I felt like I was at a retirement home hearing stories. Townsend needs to go asap. Hinch is the only tolerable one they've all gone so downhill... like Paul Tracy lmfao.
I had the TV coverage on mute and the imsa radio feed on for (checked my phone) 15 straight hours...
NASCAR type coverage and it was the worst I’ve seen in many years. I sure miss the commentators from the past. Like David Hobbs.
Can we get a shorter recap? 3 minutes is far too long for a 24 hour race... should be 45 minutes at the very least.
More like the Rolex 9 at Daytona if you watched it on Peacock. Commercials every 4 minutes at one point. Unlikely to watch the rest of the season live if its going to be like this.
The Rolex 23 hours of Daytona!
Time ran out before the Porsche crossed the finish line. The clock wasn't shown on TV.
Timing and scoring showed 1:40sec remaining when they threw the checker.@@tolldoll1007
23:58 hours of dayton😂
If you say that because of the FCY (Full Course Yellow) periods, I understand. For me at least, the best ones I've ever seen since I'm following this racing series
ISMA mess up the last 3 laps ng.
Nice race folk's
You guys at IMSA need to get your act together. I am an avid sports car racing want to watch every race as close to live as possible. I wasnt aware that USA network was not going to cover the end of the race so I missed it. Now here your recap was minimal at best and didnt even present the LMP2, GTD, and GTD pro winners
The entire TV lineup was available on IMSA.com and was sent out via our newsletter (we'd recommend you subscribe to this).
@@imsaofficial Your response is another example. Why not tell me where or how to subscribe to the newsletter? So I guess I need to spend the time searching on the internet or your website. Please make it easier to consume your content
Oh that just shows how much friggin NASCAR is involved. Gotta have long coeshins as Larry McReynolds would say@@zeddymcdog5794
I'm now waiting for the CZcams release of it as I was unable to watch 8 hrs of it due to having to sleep
@@imsaofficial that's French for, "we recommend you spend more money for a service you didn't ask for, and continue to enjoy commercials 4 minutes into a race."
Can we please get some highlights that are longer than 3 minutes?
Seems crazy it's this or watching the full 24 Hours back in full.
Please make a 10 min Video, thanks
What happened to the 03 corvette when the rear was glowing red? missed what the cause was if they aired it.
Dude i feel so bad for IMSA for this debacle and to add insult to injury people on social media are going off on everyone for no reason whatsoever. respect IMSA and SportsCar Racing
3 Min recap for a 24 hr race 😐
xD
I dont know if it was just me, but i feel like so much time was spent talking about stuff other then racing I had a total disconnect from all racing except the main class.
The 33 car should have been disqualified for at least 4 yellow flags, causing an hour and fifteen minutes of yellow. Ridiculous
Full replay please
They publish the entire race the Thursday following the TV broadcast.
Some good highlights, but hardly a race recap. If you knew nothing about this race (and many of us didn't because it wasn't covered locally) then there is little actually information here.
Where did they start? In each category? where did they finish? Who was actually in the key cars? 30 seconds at the beginning of this video and 30 seconds at the end would make this clip so much more informative.
As usual, NBC provides absolute worst coverage of a sporting event. But provides more commercials at the most inopportune time in the history of television!👌👏👍🖕🖕
Kevin Esre going off the track after trying aggressively trying to force his will on the car after leaving the pits. I watching it on CZcams TV the USA broadcast as the commentators were going to break with side by side coverage you hear their concerns as it goes to silence. I guess he pushed it way to hard.
Kevin does that.... that man is aggressive (catch his N24 races, he is always "elbows out" in that race) behind the wheel, that said the spin was unfortunate. He was trying to warm the new tires and had a lock-up. It is something that he is going to have to get use to more, what with WEC not doing tire warmers this year for the whole season (LeMans was the only exception last year, that is apparently not happening twice unless the FIA/ACO pull another Spa adjustment).
@@DuvJonesI’m a fan of Kevin and have followed him for years. He’s made some big mistakes lately. He cocked up at Le Mans, he cocked up at last year’s Bathurst 12, now he’s cocked up at Daytona. Yes he’s known for his aggressive style and he was trying to make up for a penalty, but l don’t see Laurens or Matty doing this stuff and they drive the same car.
So only one team one out of 4 classes?
My local nola channel wdsu 6, did not broadcast the last two hours of the race ! How can they and NBC let them do this to one of the biggest motorsports races in the world ? I will never watch that nbc affiliate station again.
Howmany people were in the largest crowd ever?
I was lol
Me to
Why was the checkered flag so abrupt and confusing?
Timing ran out, but the clock wasn't shown on TV.
Over 4hrs of yellow flags. Anyone with a bit of sense can see this is a HUGE PROBLEM, and needs to be addressed immediately! Re-setting the field after every yellow is ludicrous.
It's a NASCAR thing.
S O, . . IMSA Official . . . . are you going to explain why the broadcasting crew which, you are in communication with, announced 2 laps to go then the next thing announced is chequeres . . . . . . . ... where was the white flag? - True it is "your" racing series.. and, uhmm.
Rip for BMW
Everyone is complaining about too many commercials, i dunno why. I watch on IMSA tv and there are no adds there, maybe it's an NBC thing?
Yep NBC and Peacock
@@fqeagles21 ah ok. And I'm guessing IMSA tv isn't available to US viewers?
@@rafaywasayshafay3655 i think so,from Italy was perfecf
@@fqeagles21 anywhere else other than the US is perfect. The NBC stream was dogshit, full of ads, "coverage will resume soon" breaks... NBC please just show whatever live footage you have, doesnt matter if there isnt any commentary....
@@rafaywasayshafay3655 NBC Sports (Peacock being the digital side of their broadcast, name in relation to their logo) has the exclusive broadcast rights in the United States. Not to mention some of the event was ONLY through Peacock so part of the race was a paid-to-view broadcast. So 8 hours was behind a $6/mo broadcast, which I'd rather just pay IMSA directly and keep the global feed. :(
Edit: I should also add, part of the problem is there are parts of sports broadcasts where subscription services will still run advertising breaks (like how NHL takes commercials at the first stoppage at 14/9/5 left in the period), I'm assuming most of the comments are related to NBC still injecting those ads into the online broadcast.
No se vio absolutamente NADA
Second
So not only is the live coverage on NBC terrible but so is the recap! There was 24 hours and 4 classes racing and really this is all you did for highlights not even showing top 3 in all classes
Imsa you need a proper race recap. This one is so terrible and not detailed enough for a 24 Hour race. Look at how WEC Extended highlights work. Work with NBC and negotiate deals so you can post your own recap using IMSA Radio comms that lasts like 10 minutes at minimum
recap of what?'? the accidents? this is no race recap!!
First
What a joke of coverage. IMSA, it should be no surprise why viewership is down. You are putting out a terrible product.
I dont need LMP2
JRG I suggest watching MOTORTREND's coverage of the WEC race @ Sebring then Peecocks IMSA race to understand just how bad both the TV coverage and the IMSA officiating really are.
