    The Men’s 2018 world cup brought in 6 billion dollars in revenue, and of that money around 400 million was given to France the world cup winners (7%). In contrast, this women’s 2019 world cup brought in 113 million 😂😭. The USWNT were given 13% of the money (around 17 million). So statiscally speaking, if they were fighting for equal pay, they’d be fighting to reduce their own profits or make men’s profits greater, but of course, they are not fighting for equality.

      Tobin in 2008 was so ahead of her time. I've watched women's soccer since the first appearance in WC and Olympics. In 1991 or even a tad in 1999 you could get away with the statement that it was too slow and not enough good passes strung together. You really can't say that anymore.
      Now that they've expanded, a few less athletic teams or not top notch keepers are out there but you have to grow and stretch the sport. Players from Thailand and Chile made $9k a piece (unless their federation took a hefty chunk) which is way more than the few hundreds of dollars they earned last year.

      Equal pay is equal pay between men and women. Not equal pay across the board. The women's final had the highest rating ever in the USA, and they generate a ton more revenue. If you don't believe they deserve to get more money than the men, you're an idiot. It'd be like owning a restaurant that does $10 mill a year, and another that does $1 mill a year but the manager at the $1 mill restaurant gets 5x more pay. This isn't about sex. It's about what's fair.

    • @stansoffthewall
      @stansoffthewall Před 5 lety +1

      Dave Cheng they don't generate a ton more revenue though. The actual statistic is that the women brought in about $50m, men brought in about $49m...in the USA. But worldwide (which is what determines World Cup pay) the women will bring in about $131m...while the men on their last World Cup cycle brought in about $6 BILLION with a B.
      That's not even close. The men bring in far more than the women. In the USA, the women may bring in slightly more during the World Cup this last year (the first year for that to occur), but if you look at TV ratings in the USA for the MLS soccer league (the league all of our men and women play for during the year)...the men again bring in much higher ratings.
      Therefore, the women being paid less is completely justified. Any notion to the contrary is just delusional denial of reality.

Men soccer is much harder then women soccer for a multitude of reasons. Women soccer across the world isn’t as dominant as male soccer, so they don’t have the facilities or leagues to help develop the female players like the women do. WHILE ON THE OTHER HAND FOR THE MEN there’s like a gazillion amount of soccer leagues that all lead to premier league (which I considered to be the tippy of the top of the soccer world) then champions league. Until SOCCER builds a higher fan base in the US and the women soccer team builds a higher fanbases themselves they will never reach equal pay. They lost to high school boys team for Christ sake

    But to really find a solution, these women need to speak specifically what exactly they are fighting for. Speak in numbers, with facts and offer solutions.
    And people should really take the time to learn about soccer, both on the men's side and women's side, before expressing an opinion and jumping on the bandwagon because it's the popular thing to do. The media also needs to do it's homework and inform the people. Challenge the players to speak more specifics and not just make noise.

    A super eloquent pair that represent the sport in the most excellent fashion.
    They deserve a much higher level of monetary compensation for their hard work and extensive contributions to the sport.

    I'm glad the journalist came back with a more direct Q about the Thai game celebration because it looked less than elegant, if not downright cruel from the outside. Being champions is also about having the right attitude towards opponents.

    @ about 15:00 Alex starts to generalize about "nudging" various entities into a more co-operative atmosphere...fair enough, but what did the game against Thailand do for them?
    I watched the Swedish Goalie 'watch' the thai striker's shot zip past her head...it was great, I loved it!

    I'm all for equal pay but you can't expect women's soccer to get paid as much as men's soccer.
    Men's soccer brings in 100's of millions a year and women's soccer brings in a fraction of that. If the women's soccer league paid the women as much it would be broke and bankrupt in a month. Once the league brings in the amount of their Male counterparts then they will have the ability to get paid as much.
    I hate it when these news networks makes it out like they aren't getting paid because they're women. They get paid in proportion to the income of the league.
