- You're standing in your surgical examination looking at a patient's abdomen. The examiner asks you to comment on the scars you can see. What are you going to say? Help is at hand...
Keaton Jones takes you though positions of scars on the abdomen, how old they are and what the operation might have been. Kochers, roof top, mercedes benz and Rutherford- Morrison incisions are covered amongst all the other incisions and combinations of scars from open and laparoscopic operations which will give you clues to previous procedures and diagnosis.
Essential viewing for surgical finals and good revision for MRCS viva
Keaton Jones is an academic clinical fellow in surgery at the University of Oxford, UK

I have a HUGE Mercedes scar...that's what my surgeons, doctors and nurses call it. I had a liver transplant August 13 2017. Its been a tough year and a half ...roughly. I tried counting how many clips I had after surgery and it was over 140. The surgeon said I had WAY more sutures inside. My scar has healed up pretty well! I dont think it will ever go away but I'm not worried about that. I will say that it feels like I only have 3 abdominal muscles now compared to six. One big muscle on my belly and two on either side of the upper horizontal scar. My surgery was performed at UNC CHAPEL HILL,NC. The transplant team there are AMAZING people! All of them!

I have a scar on my chest right in the center what surgery is this scar from?
Hi, may I know will there be any surgical osce or mrcp part B podcast? I need to learn more for surgical physical exams and VIVA, thank you sir.
Hi - we've done abdo exam and ABPI, and somewhere on the podomatic site there is thyroid examination. However, there are loads of good examination technique videos on CZcams already, so we thought we wouldn;t reinvent the wheel. All the other videos and audio podcasts on here or ITunes podcasts or podomatic School of Surgery feeds are mapped to items for surgical exams.
Are "clips" the same thing as staples?
yes - we (probably rather sloppily) use the words interchangeably
Useful video
Thanks Usha - glad you liked it. There's lot of other you might like - just search for School of Surgery on iTunes
7:03, may I know what is "endialiostomy"?
OK, it is end ileostomy......
End ileostomy? where the terminal ileum comes through the skin, nearly always in the right iliac fossa as a stoma. The bowel beyond that has been removed in most cases (see our podcast on stomas for the difference between loop and end stomas)
@@derbycounty1000 Thank you, can't wait, sir.
