This guys is a fantastic instructor. He knows his stuff and he anticipates the questions of his audience in his explanations. I wish I had a philosophy instructor like this when I was in college.

I think Leibniz saw an essence in monads that Kant looked on generally as a force of attraction in matter. This seems to be saying, at least for Kant, that the awareness of appearances is two-fold. On one side, there's intuition. On the other, there's this essence of attractive force in the object. being picked up by the intuition. Is 'intentionality' in objects just another way of saying what Leibniz and Kant are saying?
