What's your "why" for running a marathon? 👇
My mum & dad worked hard all their lives. When they retired, they stopped and neither lived long after that. Time came when I too retired, stopped, got very fat, prediabetic. My GP gave me 'that talk' five years ago. So, 'NHS Couch to 5K', then 5K ParkRuns, then Half-marathons, now virtual marathons. I want to push myself to the envelope of endurance, because I want to see if, just maybe, I still got it
After loosing 53kg and continuing, i want to do all that i couldn’t, I’m now working towards a half marathon and there is no limit to what i can achieve:)
To prove to myself I can. It's a love/hate battle with your mind and body!
@@PuzaTG85 53kg is incredible! I thought I'd done well with 15-18. Keep it up sir!
My "why" was originally to lose weight and get fit. After completing an (albeit woefully underprepared) trail ultra a couple of years ago, my current "why" is to keep improving to reach peak fitness for my age, and definitely complete more long-distance races at a good (for me) pace.
Respect, Sarah: Running a PB while doing all the filming, talking, giving advice and product presentation - that’s a remarkable feat. Congratulations!
Thanks for your support!
Exactly what I thought. Managing to speak at the end was impressive. I clicked on the thumbs down icon by mistake and I'm just sitting on the sofa! Hopefully clicking on the thumbs up icon rectified that.
Great job Sarah, watching you go through this journey has made me want to run my first marathon in the fall. I can’t wait to train and I love the podcast too. Great job
Spoilers!!!
"I don't know why I always cry at the end." We get it. Awesome run, well done!
I don't know why Sarah always has to make me cry at the end, lol.
I honestly don't know how you can run this pace and still keep filming yourself chatting to us. Honestly so impressive!
Me Watching Whilst Eating a Cheeseburger and fries, I am a runner also haha
A great pace.
Watching people finish races always makes me tear up. Until you have run a marathon it’s impossible to relate to how hard the race is both physically and mentally. Congrats on a great race and take a well deserved break Sarah!
I’m 58 and only started running two years ago after losing 90 lbs and transforming my life during Covid work from home. There’s a lot of backstory, but to be honest now is that I run to feel alive and because I still can. I run to prove to myself and my children that tough things are possible and worth all the effort. I run to be more present in my life, to quiet my mind and be a better person.
Spot on.
WOOOOOOO LETS GOOOOOOO loved to hear that. Keep it up friend.
You looked so relaxed at the end of that. Well done. I'm 66 now, have only ever run one road marathon decades ago. Looked like those shoes make it a little easier...so maybe... And the colours are those of my favourite football team.
Well done Sarah! I am currently training for my first marathon and my "why" is because I am about to turn 40 and have chronic pain and fatigue as the result of my breast cancer treatment when I was 34. I set these goals to celebrate what my body can do, and continue to show myself I am capable of doing difficult things 😊 I run for the friends I made in the support groups that unfortunately didn't get to call themselves survivors 💔
Huge hugs to you, you'll do great! People and stories like yours are what motivate me to get out the door when I'm feeling whiny about my much smaller troubles. I'm currently reading an incredible book called "New Altitude", that follows a women's journey through illness, running, and mountain climbing. You might find it motivating on your journey. Best wishes to you!!
Sub 3:50 marathon is very impressive for any normal people. You have done well Sarah.
I ran my first marathon last Dec at age 52. Something I never quite believe I could do. And you know what, Anna and you are people that had done things in your lives that inspired me to take on a marathon and beyond. My sincere thanks to you all (the whole team of TRC) !
Thank you Anderson! Amazing achievement congratulations 🎉 We're so happy we can help, thank you for all of your amazing support.
“Run the mile you’re in” is a great mantra. You’re a wonder, Sarah!
It's heart warming to see Sarah building up from rookie to a great runner over the years. Gives us all hope that steadily, we can also get better in our running game
You don’t need to pull yourself together at the end. Cry as much as you need - they’re happy tears, end of a chapter tears, stress relief tears and you’ve achieved another goal tears. You’re amazing! Ps love that you normalize tummy issues!
oh shit this is very motivational! I teared up when she did at the end. what an emotional journey! That's an entire race's worth of emotions coming out all at once. that's what it's all about.
Thanks for watching!
CONGRTAS on a PB Sarah and great piece of commentary over the race. How the hell can you look and sound so relaxed running a marathon. Respect girl 👊🏽
Thanks Wayne!!
Don’t ever be afraid to shed a tear at the end of a marathon, it’s a brutal distance! Let the emotions out! Huge congratulations 👏
Amazing! Well done, Sarah! 80-year-old Sarah can watch this back with pride
We were crying with you Sarah! Such an incredible journey you’ve had and what a finish 🎉🎉🎉😊 A massive congratulations on your PB!
Amazing feat Sarah. I’ve almost finished couch to 5k after barely getting through the first couple of weeks (I was a proper couch potato!) I’m amazed at how far I’ve already come and videos like this are inspiring me to keep going and training to 10K, half marathon and who knows, maybe I’ll be in Osaka one day!
You made me cry! People often ask me why am I running marathons… THIS is exactly why! All the emotions you can feel during a marathon are hard to explain… you have to live them. Thanks for sharing. And congrats for your PB!!
Exactly!!
i’ve cried with you after every marathon, good job, you’re a big inspiration!
They all make me cry often!
Always get emotional watching a marathon, all the training that goes in to those few hours. Such an amazing feeling. Well done Sarah
Congratulations Sarah! I've been following since you ran the Amsterdam marathon and I've been inspired to start running myself. I'll be running my first marathon in London next month! you and Anna especially but the whole Running Channel team have been a huge inspiration to me 🏃♀️
I cried watching this. I just get so emotional every time I see the finish line ♥️ so you’re not alone. And this time I wasn’t even the one running it 😂♥️ well done!
🥲🏁
Started to tear up a bit when the music started to play at 8:56😢
Well done Sarah!! Inspiring 😊 My “why” is that feeling you get when you cross the finish line of any race and proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you ever thought you were!
Yes Hannah! Proving what we can achieve is so incredible.
amazing!!!!! i got teary too at the end with you there, love seeing other people achieving their goals and it just shows how much it means to us. no1 sees or cares about all the hard work week after week, early mornings, late nights, rain, shine that we put into ourselves. im a lone wolf when it comes to training as i have no one around me who is in to fitness but i got into youtube and following peoples journeys though lockdown and i find it so motivating for myself that there are so many others out there like me putting in the work.
Your narration while running a marathon is epic, way to go ❤
Listened to the podcast version of this race on my long run today, now watching the vlog during recovery stretches! I love all of the 'Sarah runs a marathon' videos as I'm a very similar runner and it's so inspiring to see what you can do. I've cried watching every one, so I can only imagine what it's like running them! WELL DONE SARAH!!!
Thanks so much for watching and listening!
Massive respect to anyone who has run a marathon. I've been running for 4 years but still have a mental block when it comes to marathons
Congrats Sarah! Following your training inspired me to sign up for my own marathon and the post-race feels at the end of the video make me want to make sure I give it everything. Well done on the run and this video series!
One of the many reasons why this is my favorite running channel & Sarah is my favorite runner to follower! Congrats congrats on an amazing run & huge kudos for filming while running! You’re such an inspiration, Sarah! 🎉🎉🎉
7 marathons and I've cried after each one. Great job, Sara!! 💪🏃♀️
Aw Sarah you are just SO brilliant. Seeing you cry at the end made me blub! You are super relatable and you make us normal runners believe we can achieve amazing things. That’s what you make me believe anyway. I’m running my first ever marathon in Manchester in April. I’ll be channelling your grit, determination and good humour for sure. And I won’t be jet lagged! Bonus!
+100. I hope to be like Sarah in my first marathon. Thanks for showing what tackling a marathon is like for 5+min pace runners.
Great work Sarah and team.
Amazing work Sarah. Thank you for documenting this and sharing the journey. You absolutely smashed it! Get in
Well done! Currently training for my next marathon (in 4 weeks!) with very similar goals & loved watching this - felt super emotional for you at the end! You did so well, and that's without considering not only the lack of sleep but that you were vlogging throughout that as well! 👏🎉
Sarah you are an inspiration to ‘normal’ runners to chase every dream, accept every challenge, strive to be a better runner. Well done.
Well done Sarah - I think we all felt those tears at the end, you're amazing!
Great job Sarah, I really love your Marathon preparation and race videos. It increases the pleasant anticipation and motivation for my own first marathon in April ❤
Love watching your marathon journeys Sarah! Well done. Very inspiring 🎉
Well done Sarah, this was AMAZING and you’re genuinely so inspiring! My ‘why’ is that I never thought I could be the kind of person who runs - as a teenager I never felt I belonged in the ‘sporty’ crowd, and I know my younger self would so proud of the limits I’ve pushed myself to as an adult. So I do it for her! Thank you to the running channel for being my constant source of motivation, and for making everyone feel like they belong in this community.
Sarah, this brought back such great memories for me, Japan is amazing! Equally amazing is your ability to not only run a marathon, but to do so whilst presenting an informative, authentic, entertaining, and inspiring video! 03:28 Well done!!
Yes Sarah!!! 🎉 an incredible time I can only dream of right now. I’m currently in training for my first one to support my dad in his final and 10th London Marathon & watching your marathon journey makes it all the more worthwhile and reassuring. Congratulations again!
Huge congratulations, Sarah! That was incredibly inspiring to watch. I will run my first marathon in Zurich, Switzerland in April and all the TRC videos have taught me so much and motivated me for every training session. Running a marathon was always a checklist item for me but based on the joy I currently get from the training it will likely not stay at one.
Running a marathon and able to speak and document the race 😍 you've come such a long way and achieved so much!! 🥇 you're so inspiring!!
Thanks so much Magdalena!
Well done! I'm always impressed by folks running steadily and still able to look at the camera and narrate.
Such a brilliant effort, Sarah! I'm heading back into marathon training now after not having done one in 3 years with a goal of sub 4. Watching this video just motivated me through my Monday morning run before work so thank you! Can't wait see which marathon you do next 👸
(And well done on that hill, it would have definitely killed me off!)
Well done!! You are doing so well with all these crazy challenges. I love watching the videos with Sarah and Anna!
That was awesome. Well done Sarah on your PB, whilst filming / talking into the camera and having jet lag. Your commitment to the training programme has been brilliant and very inspiring.
Well done Sarah, what an amazing achievement, never mind with jet lag! I have a 10k race tomorrow which I’m nervous for, but this has settled my nerves a bit and inspired me, thank you 🙌🏼
Sarah, that's super impressive, let alone on so little sleep! You've made such incredible progress over the last couple of years, it's so great to see you getting the rewards for your effort.
I ran my first marathon in 2013 because some friends roped me in, and my second eight years later to prove to myself that I could do it better without making *all* the classic mistakes! Now I'm training for a 100km because I want to see what I'm capable of. I won't be anywhere near the front, but I'm hoping that getting round will be one hell of a 'cookie in the jar' for future endeavours!
Amazing! Tears of joy and pride!! Well done, Sarah, you are awesome!
Well done Sarah and thank you so much. Your speech at the end got me thinking about why do I actually run marathons… it’s because I can. We’re fortunate enough to be able to. And like you said, to find out who you truly are and what you’re capable of. Keep up the great work 👏🏻💪🏼
I just came back from a really hard track workout and it is merly impossible for me not to start crying.
Sarah, you are a heroe!!
I’m training for my 2nd marathon and I felt the emotion from here ❤️❤️ you’ve worked so hard, Sarah!!! Well done 🎉
Well Done Sarah!!!! - welled up watching your finish! Great time! Especially considering the jet lag AND running commentary you gave too! 🙌👏 You should be super proud!
Absolutely inspiring Sarah. Watching your progress has been an honour. You're a legend!
Huge congratulations Sarah. It is great to see your progression over the 10K and marathon blocks. Inspiring me to keep pushing for my half marathon goal for this year 😀
Thank you so much!
Epic video Sarah, well done and congratulations on the PB
i'm crying watching you cross the finishing line , well done sarah !! u are a motivation for me
i'm only done half marathon, don't have the confident to do full marathon but now preparing my self for a marathon next year(hope so)
Slay Sarah!! I’m running my first half marathon in May and I rely on videos like these on the days when I’m in need of some major inspo.
Sarah, fyi, you're inspiring me more to run my 1st marathon, ideally this year. You make it feel so possible.
OMEDETOU GOZAIMASU!!!
💗well well done Sarah🥳you are amazing! Thank you for the gigantic effort in filming... you are so inspiring to everyone🙏Thanks to you and your team!
Love watching these runs and I’ve learned a lot about training and what to expect for my first full marathon run! Great job Sarah!
I run marathons because it's what my father did too. And it makes me feel connected to him. It's an awesome feeling to show your children the work and effort needed to do something so challenging.
Well done Sarah 🎉 Really inspiring. One of my reasons for running a marathon is that it gives me a reason to train and helps me mentally 😊
you're amazing and such an inspiration! Watching your racing videos - esp the marathon ones - always make me shed a tear and feel more motivated for my own!
Congratulations Sarah!! That was amazing, ESPECIALLY given 2 days of little sleep and filming/ talking! The fan shoutouts must have felt awesome halfway around the world! The chat about pooping yourself was hysterical, especially given the poor guy in the background who looked like he was fighting the urge. 😆 I run marathons/ ultras for the same reason... as I get older, I feel a greater desire to push myself, to see what incredible things I can accomplish while I still can, so I can look back on my life and be proud of some crazy sht! I'm 45 in 2 weeks, and going for my first 50 miler this fall!
I have my first marathon in May and videos like this pump me up! I love watching your running journey❤
Massive well done again Sarah. I was literally crying with you at the end. You so deserve that PB after all of that hard training you’ve put in. You’re totally capable of that sub 3:45. The question is where next? X
That was amazing Sarah. I'm so pleased the jet lag didn't outweigh all the training you've been doing and the fact you've done it on a course with hills rather than a nice easy flat course makes it even more impressive 👍
Thanks Matt! Have you got any races coming up this year?
Awesome job! So great to see your journey and how far you’ve come! Well done!
Well done Sarah! My "why" used to be to show that I am stronger and tougher than anything I have to face. I've also cried at the end of races. Usually the harder I've had to push in the last few km, the more uncontrollable the tears at the end. I think it's just a flood of pure relief. Joy that it's over and achieved.
Huge congratulations Sarah!! Running an international marathon is really not easy, very inspiring!!!
Love this Sarah, brought it all back to me for all of my 3 marathons and the highs and lows. Thank you!
Great Mark! Have you git anymore lined up?
Amazing work Sarah!! You should be so proud of how far you’ve come. The colour way on the shoes is also insane! Can’t wait to try them one day.
All runners are so inspiring! Great job! 🎉
Well done Sarah! It’s a talent to run and produce top-tier content at the same time ❤
Well done Sarah!
Really glad to have you Jose! Is there anything you would like to see from us?
Well done Sarah, have been following your running journey on CZcams and your outlook and attitude towards running is always an inspiration , looking forward to see what you tackle next.🏅🏃♀️🎉
Well done Sarah! Filming and running sub 4 hours is insane!. Going for Paris in a month but cannot imagine doing it filming!
Well done! Even though you ran on 4 hours sleep you looked so much more confident than in your first sub 4 marathon, super impressive!
Would be cool to run my first half marathon (Vienna) in these shoes :)
So proud of you Sarah! You are such an inspiration. I’m prepping for a marathon and a few months ago I couldn’t even run 5K without walking most of it. The Running Channel has been such a great resource. My “why” is to prove to myself that I can do something hard. Something that the majority of the population has no desire to put in the effort to achieve. Nothing is more powerful than pulling yourself out of the dark during a long run and I know a marathon/marathon prep will give me the mental resilience to pull myself out of anything. Keep up the great work Sarah!! :)
Well done ! That was amazing and I would love to be able to get a marathon in the bag. Started running last year and this channel has been a staple for me every week. Thank you for all the useful information!
It is amazing to see how fast Sarah has progressed. I am also looking towards sub 03:50, after the Rome marathon last year with 03:57. I definitely have to follow more of the work Sarah has done
Fingers crossed!
My „why“ is for my health. Running is one of the best ways I relieve stress and stay active for my family. Was both happy and gutted with my 4:13 last year, but definitely going after a sub 4:00:00 this year! I really enjoy following your journey and all of the challenges!!!!
Good luck. Hope you make it happen.
Yeah good luck are u running London?
@@theraving90s65 yes. It's my 7th marathon but 1st London
I’m running London aswell gonna hook up with the 4:00 pacers and hope for the best. Good luck to you
@@theraving90s65 I'd love to go under 4 hours. I'm at 4:11:01 but hoping to improve on that. Still managed a Good for Age for Chicago so looking forward to that as well in Oct.
I cried with you at the end. I felt like I was there with you. RUnning is hard, and the fact you did that without sleep, is motivating to everyone that makes daily excuses not to run. Thank you for this video.
What a brilliant effort, thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The 'why' is a marathon is the ultimate feeling of transcendence, putting yourself into an almost meditative state , elevating yourself , there's truly nothing like it.
Well done Sarah, awesome run.
Getting back into it all myself and your journey has been very inspiring.
Thank you
Such an inspiration! I’ve running my first Marathon in London in April and have been watching all your videos since I got my place. Huge well done! ☺️
"I can't do maths" 😂😂
Great run Sarah, your running journey has been so inspiring!
😂😂
Just wondering, when do I receive shipment of my Mizuno's for services to 'The Running Channel' fandom, and general excellence in commenting and 'LIKE' button clicking? 👍😉 My feet have remained 'un-carbon plated' for too long 💨
Your running videos are so great! Full of enjoyment and fun! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Amazing that Sarah, well done getting your PB as well as commentating and filming!! The emotions at the end feel really good, don’t you find? Like a huge release after the length of time to train, to then put it all into practice for one go at completing it! Congratulations to you 😊
Preparing to run my first half marathon in the end of the year and seeing this kinds of videos are helping me to stay motivated! 🎉
That was so impressive, Sarah! I totally understand why you cry at the end, and I cried with you too. I love running as well, and I'm actually happy I'm able to run half a maraton. But my ultimate dream is one day to be able to run a full marathon. I am 57 and hope I'm not too old. I'm not very fast but I love longer runs. Thank you for sharing all the great info on this channel, and Sarah, you did such a great job making this video filming, talking and running at the same time. And you ran the marathon sub 3.50 - Congratulation Girl !!
Well done Sarah! You were amazing! It’s so good to see the highs and lows of a marathon. I’m sure you’ll still be running marathons in your 80s! Hope you get some well deserved rest now.
Crazy how much you improved, you are an inspiration Sarah! Congrats on your pb🎉🎉
Inspiring as always! Super effort Sarah...you should be exceptionally proud. And why not...... you never want to get old and say 'I wish I had done....'
The work you do at the running 🏃🏾♂️ channel is amazing… such a source of inspiration 💜🙏🏾
You’re incredible to be able to run a marathon, let alone holding a camera and talking. Love your honesty. I’ve now run 6 half marathons (never thought it was possible). I’m now aiming to complete a marathon. Anything is possible. Thanks for the inspiration video 👌
Wow. Sarah, you really are inspirational.
Getting a PB and keeping us updated. Thank you for taking us on your journey.
You are AMAZING
