Should be mentioned for anyone trying this as of 6/11/22 have you been having issues with your blu ray drive working or not working at all and you are getting Error Code SU-42118-6. There is no fix for it then. the new updates do a hardware check. If the system cannot detect your blu ray drive it will automatically fail the install. No matter if you're in safe mode or not. I have done hours of research and even more trying every known method. either wait it out and hope Sony fixes this insert laugh here. Or you have to replace the disc drive which means you need to buy the correct one for the version of your ps4. anyway like I said if you have any drive issues or it doesn't work at all stop here you are just wasting your time.
Bro My ps4 stuck in safe mode keeps saying update to 11.00, Well Bought my friends ps4 Cash money n took it home updated all the games and the software to 11.00 because it asked me too I clicked yes on the console shut it off turned it back on went to safe mode cannot start Ps4 So Now I'm using a laptop to try n update the ps4 using U.S.B If it doesn't work I'm out $80 bucks and stuck with 2 Broken Ps4s

I can't get into safe mode. I held the button, never got the 2nd beep. Booted up. I think there's something wrong with the firmware as it keeps failing to see my controllers. Multi controllers, multi USB cords used. Intermittent. Wonder if someone else is using blutooth and interferring with them? Blutooth supposedly doesn't have much range.
Video is legit and works but some people will still get the error even after this usb step so your only option is to initialize the console which will erase everything.

Better just buy a used ps4 then doing this since it’s a Blu-Ray Error

I've tried this it didn't work ..I mine says it needs version 11 not 8.50
I got the error after doing that so i just initlialize ps4 and it worked for me
