  • When it comes to making spiritual progress, people sometimes give excuses like,
"When the time comes, it will happen..'
"I am not destined in this birth to realize God.."
However, giving an excuse mean a lack of effort. Watch more to learn as Swami Mukundananda explains in detail the four kinds of tustis (the mindset to remain contented and not progress in devotion due to an excuse) a spiritual aspirant must avoid in their endeavor to realize God.

Avoid four types of Thushti/contentment. 1. Eshwar (waiting for God to come and grace) 2. Bhagya (blaming fate and not working hard) 3. Kaal (time)...waiting for right time. don't give excuses about time. do hard work now and make use of time. time may never come for bhakti one has to take control)4. Sharan-aavaran (hypocrisy that has crept into us, making statements without meaning it). Get rid of these weaknesses to make spiritual progress.

Beware of four kinds of tushtis that impede spiritual progress: Ishwar tushti is the belief that things will work out in life when God graces. Such a belief weakens the effort in surrendering to God. Bhagya tushti is blaming destiny for the lack of effort or practice required to excel. Kaal tushti is waiting for the right time to start or practice bhakti, resulting in waste of precious time. Lastly, sharan avaran tushti or saying in words that s/he is a surrendered soul but the actions do not align with words (hypocrisy). Thank you, Swamiji, for clearly identifying the internal obstacles on the spiritual path.

Thank you Swamijee for your enlightening speech about increasing our eligibility to receive divine grace from God and Guru . With apt examples you have brought home how the contentment ( tushsti ) in ESHWAR , BHAGYA , KAAL & SHARAN AVARAN cause impediments in both material and spiritual realms . Impediment in material progress cannot cause much loss ; but in the spiritual line , the loss is irreparable . God and Guru are impartial to all , and are always eager to bestow blessings on the deserving . Realizing and remembering this , we must utilize time in enhancing our devotion , total surrender without wasting even a minute .

Satisfaction in the situation is ornament in material things. But satisfaction in the situation is a enemy in the spuritual path. Never be satisfied with gaining divine knowledge, devotion, chanting of God's name and service

तेरी कृपा में न कमी, मेरी कमी राधे - God’s grace is infinite and it is poured incessantly; how much we will receive depends upon the nature of the vessel we have. As Shri Maharajji used to say, उलट कर रख दिया साकी ने मयखाने का मयखाना | तकदीर मेरी टूटी थी कि फूटा मुझसे पैमाना - The person serving the ambrosia of divine love turned over the whole bar. Look at me, I had a broken cup and I could get nothing. So, there is no shortage of grace from the side of God. The shortage is of surrender from our side. So, we have to take the responsibility to surrender ourselves to receive God's grace. We should not sit idle taking the excuse of God's grace, destiny, time and our own state of sadhana.

Beautiful explanation by Swamiji. We should be content in our material wealth but never be content in our spiritual earnings. Because contentment in material world gives us peace and satisfaction, but contentment is the thief of spiritual progress. So with strong faith in God and guru we should increase our hunger to do more and more service and devotion. Then only we can progress in our journey.

If we want more grace, surrender more. We should surrender to the utmost of our abilities. That will increase our speed. If we need to learn anything, we need to put 10,000 hours of practice. If our balance is less, we need to earn at a faster rate. I am the maker of my destiny.
