This is actually something I wanna know about because I have no mix. 😂😂
Everyone has a mix. Just gotta find it. 😂😂
cant fukin find my mix and my chest is not that high i want to find my mix so i can transition and belt out a mix note, instead of transitioning without breaking into a weak falcetto sigh
Ian Japril mixing is not the answer. you need to strengthen your vocal registers. you need to strengthen your chest voice, not use mix.
@@zah4897 my mix is actually fine the thing is i cant my chest isnt that high and i cant mix and since i cant mix when i belt im so.shouty sometimes since i csnt reach it i will just transition into a connected but weak falcetto thats why i wanna learn how to mix.
Ian Japril your chest voice needs strengthening and so does your falsetto. mixing isn’t the answer. developing your vocal cords is the important thing.
First of all, THANK YOU for using a baritone range for this exercise. All of the male mixing tutorials I’ve ever found are by tenors, so it’s hard to know what mixing is supposed to sound like when we basses start to transition to falsetto at a lower range than them. I feel so much more informed now!
Me as a bass lightly sobbing still
I don't know what I am (chest range for me is C#2-G#4), so anything is useful for me, mostly the tenor stuff, but this helps a lot!
@@lemonshrikecatworthy7964 I would say you are a Baritone
@@lemonshrikecatworthy7964 Baritone
@@lemonshrikecatworthy7964 thats exactly my chest range and im a baritone but c#2 is weak and G#4 is only reachable with vowel modification
I wish I had teachers like this when I was going through puberty. I got Homer Simpsoned. I went from singing crazy high notes and being able to feel it when I was matching head, chest, and mixed voice, to having a very low baritone and breaking trying to do anytyhing. The people I was looking to for guidance weren't singers or vocally trained so they just wrote me off as being tone deaf because I couldn't just instinctually sing the same way I could before I was went through puberty.
This is so relatable. As a kid I used to sing so flawlessly (from what I remember) but after my teen years my voice was destroyed
6:13 "...a face mask almost..." man is out here predicting covid back in 2019
It's very important to have a balanced mix as well. Because many singers have a Chesty Mix. Or a Heady Mix... OR people use a Masked Head Voice. People like Sohyang have a balanced mix which sounds to me a lot more pleasant for my ears. So making sure you have a balanced mix is also very important. Heady Mix allows you to hit higher notes but may lose some depth from Chest Voice.
Queen Sohyang😍
Oh, it depends. Whitney houston used chesty mix to show her strong and powerful voices. Lara fabian use heady mix but her belts are still strong and resonate.
@@daokhoi814 yeah I agree. I feel like if you want more tone you want to use a bit more of a chesty mix, and if you want more ease you use a heady mix.
Honestly it depends on the musical context for me.Whitney Houston is amazing in a chesty mix
Im a guy but i have a heady mix is that a problem? my head voice jsut extends very high
I LOVE the timing of making this video I literally have been focusing on mix this past week
Great! Thankyou for not holding back and instead sharing your knowledge, this is the first thing I look for in a vocal coach! If everything has a dollar sign on it, the learning ends up coming second.
Thank you Tara and Jeremy for this video. As a “newish” voice student, I’ve been binging voice-related videos.
This is the first and only time I’ve heard anybody mention where the placement is and compare/contrast mix vs. pulling up chest. It was hugely helpful!
Holy.. shiz.. for more than 1 year researching about mix voice, this is the one that I feel that I hit the gold... My main problem is chest dragging up to a very tensed chest that sounds like a dying animal... But now, when you said that you have to mix earlier, it hit me.. now I'm on the road on developing my mix 😍 thank you very much!
oh thank god I thought my voice was lower than the usual male singers, I also start mixing around C#4
I start at A4, is that like a tenors range.
T H yes lyric tenor
@@Thepresenceabove - Thank you, I understand my voice a bit more now! I have an upper extension up to B5 which I had verified by my vocal teacher, and F6 in whistle tone, so I've had a hard time figuring out my voice
my passaggio starts around E and F, as most tenors, so I start mixing around F# and A, or else my voice starts sounding forced.
@@michaelthem3 - There are two passagios? My first one must be the break I experience at A4/Bb4 then.
That was an amazing tutorial. I'm so happy I see a teacher who shows you how it is. It is really hard for me to understand when people talk about mixing because I'm not able to apply what they've said. I prefer to see and try . Thanks a lot
I am a brand new viewer, (so pretty sure I'm not saying anything you haven't heard before) and I love your videos because not only do you know exactly what I'm thinking, but you are also able to express it perfectly. Your talent for teaching is just as amazing as your talent for singing. That's a good thing!
Amoo a Tara! Além de cantar muito bem, até mesmo falando a voz dela é linda, a pronunciação impecável em ambos
Yessss this is what I need!
This is exactly what I’ve been trying to learn for years lol 😆
Very helpful. I really appreciate the tutorial. Tara and Jeremy, you guys are amazing!
This was soooooo helpful as a newer singer receiving training!!
I'm going to incorporate this exercise in my daily routine. I was able to mix all the way up. Thank you so much for this video.
A couple of weeks ago, when listening to an album through youtube, before one of the songs, I got an ad for your singing studios. I was so stoked to see that, because it means your channel/business is getting good exposure.
Well done, guys!
I’d known 0 theory if I didn’t follow Tara, ‘One’s’ looks like a great way to rehearse your range
I'm not skipping the ads as my way of saying thank you for all of your really helpful tips ❤❤❤
Yes!!!! Thank you a video geared towards your male viewers! Love it
Tara, with your video I’ve come to realize that I speak using my mixed voice. It’s the same resonance. I feel it in the same places I feel when I speak.
We've found Waldo! He sings beautifully!
Wow, this dude has such a gorgeous, bright, round tone to his voice! I would definitely take vocal lessons from Jeremy.
Yay thanks for this. Such critical information.
So helpful thankyou Tara!
I learned the wrong way to sing for 4 years. 4 years. I’ve been pushing my chest up to it’s limits without ever mixing because I never knew what it was supposed to sound/feel like for a bass. I’m trying to relearn and this is one of the best lessons I’ve had.
hilarious stuff and useful at the same time, you two have great chemistry together 🤘
wow thank you!! this helped me a lot!!
Super helpful video. Gives a lot of tips that intermediates need!
Yass!!! In just 12 minutes i promise i became even better im screaming right now🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️
Finally I understand my weakness after try to mix, because i pulled chest voice up too high then suddenly want to mix and i cant do it... So we need to mix earlier.. Thankssss
Wow, i am waiting for this!
Omg this is exactly the video I needed
This exercise can help me to improve my vocal range I love it thankyou🥰
As a vocal coach I love this ONE technique for mixed
Thanks Tara for sharing!
Would love a part two that takes the mix voice higher.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make this!
You should consider placing sound absorption panels on the blank walls next to the window.
The room is very reflective, it would make the video audio much clearer as we’d hear the voices more and the room less.
That was a great singing lesson. I felt like I was transported back in time to seventh grade chorus...
I can’t tell if this was genuine or sarcastic...
@@kaiyang9 genuine. Years ago I did chorus...🤔, Uh, grades 7,8,9,10...
The teacher I had was really good. Tara reminds me of that instruction.
I actually didn't like singing but as kids we had to have music in school so, it was that or be in school band and I definitely didn't want to do that.
Thanks for the reply.
@@dougarnold7955 oh dang that’s cool. My choir teacher wasn’t very good and had difficulty demonstrating vocal technique, so I was afraid that you had the same experience and were referring to Tara like that, but it’s good to hear that wasn’t the case.
@@kaiyang9 Oh! Tara is awesome. She's really good at teaching singing.
I mostly watched her sing better in seconds series and I like it when she reacts to some of the Metal bands. I loved her Jinjer Pisces reaction, that's when I subbed.
Have a good one. 👍
Hey Tara I am sure you have been asked to react to Cortney Hadwin. I've heard other vocal coaches say she is damaging her voice. she is to young to do that, I actual love hearing your take on it cause it seems to me you articulate better and I, as well as others. Value and trust your expertise. Thank you. I used to sing but smoking has limited my range, is that common among people who fall into that hideous habit.
this was so helpful!!!
I REALLY ENJOY THESE LESSONS SO MUCH TARA THANK U YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING LET ME JUST SAY I'M A SINGER AS WELL AND I SING IN LIKE 3 CHOIRS AND A LOT OF WHAT U GUYS TEACH I HAVE ALREADY LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS FROM STUDYING AND EXCELLENT VOICE TEACHERS SO I CAN REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR WORK BECAUSE YOU REMIND ME OF ONE OF MY VOCAL COACHES YOUR DIRECT AUTHENTIC FUN AND U KNOW YOUR CRAFT FRONTWARDS AND BACKWARDS AND THESE SESSIONS ARE JUST SO REFRESHING AND FUN TO WATCH ESPECIALLY WHEN I NEED TO BUSH UP ON SOMETHING I LOVE IT..SO THANK U ALSO COACH JEREMY IS A (CUTIE)👈💖🌹🌈😍😌AND GREAT TO LOOK AT LOL😊🎼🎶🎹🎤👌
I did not know I’ve always had a natural mix voice when hitting high notes, I’ve finally learned to switch mix to head
With the holidays coming you have to listen to Home Free -O Holy Night. Amazing version
omg THANK YOU!
Hi Tara! Thank you!
Perfect tutorial❤
6:06 just because of that explanation I found it!!!! ❤️😂
I have just learned doing mix recently. o have been hitting high notes using chest voice and I have been straining it. I think I have developed it when I have joined a chorale and saw Tenors did it.
Great tutorial!
Finally a baritone example!
Yes finding this is a holy grail!
This is great! Love this video, and your channel, Tara!! I have a question. Is mix the same as vocal bridge? Or, what's the difference between the two?
Yes! A puberty video would be great!
Using the "one" exercise, I actually go into my mix/head voice at A3 which is contrary to the popular E4/F4. It's almost like the primary passaggio for tenors is much lower that it's said to be. My mix/head voice starts picking up power on the E4 with full power on G4 but if I wait to switch then it's too late. And when I switch earlier(A3) I don't notice my secondary passaggio(G#4) anymore, I pretty much have one voice from there till the end of my mix/head voice. For perspective, (I think) I'm a leggero tenor since my voice is on the brighter side and I can sustain a clear full voice resonance up to E5.
Thank u i just love u
I didn't understand mix at all for a long time. Tried to force it, feel it, change the voice etc to no avail. Until I randomly one evening just got it out of the blue. Now I use it all the time when singing for myself. I feel it in the middle of my head close to my ears, and because of that it really sounds very loud and sharp inside my head. I haven't recorded myself to try and listen if that sound resonates outward or are just so loud inside my head yet though, but I automatically gradually add more and more mix from lower notes anyway so maybe it's not so bad.
It's understandable that many have a hard time finding the mix.
Anyway, great video!
Can you explain, is mixing suppose to be within ur range before switching to head voice?
@@kaifoong0722 What I've found is that it's hard to just enter mix out of nothing, so what I do is try to keep the tone of my chest voice when going higher than my chest range.
Try this: Go to the top of your chest range, then loosen up while holding kind of the pressure for the tone you want. For me the tone is sharp but feels looser than the compressed very top chest range. Note: it's easy to fall out of the mix at first, so practice makes perfect.
Tip: Try singing a song thats not too fast and lies on the top of your chest range and try to smoothly loosen up so that you're able to go higher while keeping most of the tone.
So answer your question: Being in chest and slowly start to mix from there is what I've found works best for me.
@@pinesyeet thank you so much for replying 😊 i will try it out and is it ok if i come back to you with feedback? im scared that im still unable to do it
@@kaifoong0722 No problem, and sure thing! Just keep in mind I'm in no way a professional singer, I just like to experiment with my voice. But I'll help in any way I can :)
Great job to find our gap between chest voice and mix voice ! But that's not a good way to compare the sound produced by the mixed voice and the one produced by the chest register. Listening to the difference between both makes you better realize... ;)
nice lesson love it👍👍
Your Videos are amazing
Somehow I couldn't find my mixed voice by doing this exercise. It seems like I am just swapping between chest voice and head voice.
But whenever I try to sing "Mad World", I somehow automatically trigger my mixed voice, which is nice. :D
This is seriously awesome! Thank you so much for doing a video like this! I have been following you for some time now, in hopes of improving my vocals. I am so glad that you touched the subject of nasal passage. I often feel that there are times that I become a bit nasally. I have some very close friends whom I have had the courage to sing in front of them. I have really bad anxiety and often get panic attacks. My friends don't seem to think that I get nasally when I sing, and I might just be overthinking things and feel like they might be trying to avoid hurting my feelings. I am so thankful that you did this video! 🙏
Nive video!
I'm in love with him
Since i learned head voice everytime i exercise transitioning smoothly through chest-head i found my mix
This is very helpful and interesting. But: Tara, you should have your grand piano tuned! Especially that D3 and Gb are abysmal! :-)
Florian Fahrenberger Amen!!! I thought it was just me!
Thought I was the only one wow that was painful
i thought i was crazy 😭🤚
Great tutorial ! Thanks. I think I'd need guidance from a serious coach like Tara...
Please do a session for basses
I wish I can afford having you as my vocal coach, hahaha. These tutorials you're doing are really helpful ♥
tara's face at 8:45 -- i am literally screaming 😱🤣
Great video.
Would you do a tutorial with him transitioning into his head voice?
I can pull my chest up to about an F#, so I wish he went a bit higher, so I could hear how it sounds in the range I would have to use it in. I guess it’s still better to mix early instead of pulling chest, but I would have loved to hear a bit more. Regardless, it was a nice video, I hope I find my mix soon
If you haven't yet, I'd love to see your reaction to "Blind and Frozen" by Beast in Black. The lead vocalist is jaw-dropping in my uneducated opinion! And overall it's just a really catchy song.
"you're fired" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Hi, I have discovered my mix, but everymorning after I wake up I need to do my scales all over again in order to sing without the break and yet my mix sounds pretty weak and wobbly most of the time.
Awesome tutorial. You need to react to voice play 'Oogie Boogie song' though!
Please do this kind of video more
thanks for the video! but I’m so curious to listen how that mixed works up high up to high C, for example. Do you have any videos showing that?
please one more video on mix for girls with a 2. exercise?! :)
Lol ok😘
That mix kind of reminded me of John Legend and how he sings
This is a cool video, although i would have LOVED a (literal) side by side shot of him singing in mix or by pushing the chest voice. Perhaps even separating it in the stereo mix so someone could just flip the balance knob back and forth to switch between them.
I'm inconsistent with my mixing but tnx 4 thinking abt us?, Informative
I love the ad 😂😂
Great video, good info thank you! Can we get something directed at baritone or bass singers (or wannabe singers 😅)
Secondly please review Ben Caplan - Stranger and/or Home Free - Honey. Ben Caplan and Tim Foust are my vocal heroes.
Why do coaches and students on these types of videos always stop on F#4 when the trouble is between F#4 and A4?
Because for some of us the trouble is E-F
Yes!! A4 is killing meee!! Its so frustrating cuz i can hit it but it sounds just so screamed. I need to find my mix asap
PERIYADT
@@jonathan_8100 sameeee. I just turned 16 and I can hit a G#4, but the last time I hit an A4 must have beed a few months ago 😭 also I'll share my vocal range, if someone can give me feedback (lowest: D2 highest chest: G#4, A4 highest falsetto: E6 highest whistle: E7)
GUYS DEVELOP MIXED VOICE I’LL LINK SOME VIDS
I'm a singer , and I still don't get or now what mix is and sounds like but what I tend to do is when getting to the higher notes is to sing them softer and then sing them louder in head voice ...I don't think that's really right , though 😅
A moment of silence to those who didn't get the jaw joke. Lol
OMG I NEEDED THIS NOW I CAN FINALLY NOT BE A DYING DONKEY THRU VOICE PUBERTY 😍 I SUBBED TAHNSKSKNSHASM
I have a question about doing the exercise at home with a piano or in my case a piano app. So to do this I would pick the key I want, and it hit a couple of times as you did, can this be achieved with just one finger? Or do I need both hands?
i love your informative videos! Can you PLEASE react to tevin campbell singing can we talk live on the arsenio hall show in 1993? I think he's one of the greatest male voices of all time and people rarely discuss him! Also recommend Avery Wilson covering Can We Talk!
Ok thanks! I’ll consider that!! Anyone labeled the greatest male singer of all time is worth a listen!! 😍🙌🏻
Please do a belting video. 🙏
will you have one for females next?
8:50 mix needs to Segway to sound smooth rather than when chest is pushed too high
9:55 another improper mix is breaking sound
11:11 can use piano to repeat notes where you are breaking and go back and forth between those notes to train that area
Hi Tara! Could you do a reaction to Sam Robsons I need thee? or any of his other videos.
When you say to over it extra times (say C4-F4) do you mean with mix or with pulled chest?
I love these videos lol because I feel like I can sing but I know I can’t and I’ve been really wanting to learn 😀😭
I have a question is an e2(lowest note)-g4( most comfortable high note in chest voice)-c5(mix),no head voice...a baritone range?
