- 2018 Drive Commercial Car of the Year: Best Small Van
It might sound like the French misspelt Kangaroo when naming its small van, and took some inspiration from Skippy when designing its front-end, but Renault's small van is a smart urban runabout.

I have already ordered one of these lil vans in may. After reviewing the kangoo and caddy, I settled on the caddy maxi with the 1.4 tsi and 7 speed auto. Have also optioned up. Was so hard finding reviews prior to this but so glad you have done this! Good work!
Prepare for transmission problems when ~200.000km comes. Even earlier when used in city trafic. :/
No worries James sorry we couldn't go it earlier to help you choose. Hope the Caddy goes well!
Thanks for also reviewing Cargo Vans!
No Worries HSV!
This is the advise I was looking for, thank you for the detailed video much appreciated.
not sure what models are available in AUS, but you are reviewing 2 vans in the maxi version against the berlingo standard, in europe they have 1.6 litre turbo deisels, and come in a maxi version, and being 8 grand cheaper id go with that.
The kangooo has really good visibility too, especially competed to the caddy.
The berlingo is the best overall for me, I drive a diesel which is a good engine very strong done 120,000 miles in it but the gearbox is not good typically French but note for note the best value small van around.
I drive the kangoo every day for 3 years now and done 180,000 km in it . with that fruity engine i surprise some cars every day in it hahaha love it :)
@Marin Baclija that it is pretty fast for what it is.. i have a 1.5l 110hp and its really fun to drive.
caddy is best van 1.9 tdi diesel is beast pull like train i love my van
Kangoo the best i love kangoo
untill the gearbox goes and headgasket fails which is standards with the French. just about 100k km.
@@Niklez7 I owned a Kangoo and did almost 100,000 miles in it, got wrote of at 123,000 miles. It was the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, started first time every time and the only money I spent on it was servicing costs and some wear and tear replacements on suspension parts. Fantastic motor.
Strange as my caddy maxi has two sliding doors a one piece lift up rear door a turbo 1.6 diesel 7 speed dsg and drives fantastic 😎
I think you missed out the most important bit, the cargo capacity and dimensions (that's what I came here for) i.e. can I fit a double mattress in any of them if I hire one?
I have a Kangoo and you can sleep 2
You can find the dimensions on their respective websites
Got to question the long term reliability of a DSG in a commercial vehicle that may carry heavy loads in a lot of stop start traffic which ultimately limit the life of the vehicle.
The Berlingo is being upgraded this fall. The new Berlingo is build on a completely new platform. It's not a facelift. The new car is a collaboration between Citroen, Peugeot and Opel.
The old one - featured in this video - will probably become cheaper over the next couple of months, as Citroen may want to "empty their shelves" before the new one arrives.
Great review guys
Thanks Gray :)
Kangoo 450k miles and still never had a problem
That's great to know. I bought a second hand maxi crew... done 160k atm.
@@mattthambirajahpt286 thats rookie numbers son get your numbers up join the big leagues lol nahh im playing the max crew is a great investment
Ive bought a 2018 kangoo 70000 miles on it, i want to get 5 years out of it, will it be good
Really??? What year and what engine and gearbox?
What is the engine?
Can you please do a review and comparison between these six small cargo vans.
Citroen Berlingo, Volkswagen Caddy, Fiat Doblo, Ford Transit Connect, Renault Kangoo and Peugeot Partner.
All vans in manual transmission, preferably in diesel.
Thank you! 🙏
I know your comment is old, but fyi, the Partner and the Berlingo are the same vehicle. Not even badge-engineered. The PSA are the same company in regards to these cars. Since then, the later models are also the Opel vans.
Kangoo is best
Ford Courier 2019 ?
You guys forgot to say how many kgs the Kangoo can load
Thank for very informative!👍🇬🇧
No worries Marilyn! Happy to help.
CADDY MAXI IS NUMBER ONE.
I'd have either the berlingo with a 1.6 diesel engine or the caddy
well it's absolutely pointless to compare two petrol engines with a diesel one. Both Vw and Citroen have also diesel engines
This is NOT a Caddy Maxi? Its tje regular Caddy. Maxi version is 47 cm longer
helpful
Sorry boys you didn't actually review the caddy maxi like you said, you review the short wheel base. This is not a good comparison. Unless you've been paid by Renault! I'D also like to see a fuel comparison of all vehicles fully loaded. As let's face it they will be loaded as they are commercial vehicles.
I just upgraded to this Caddy on test from an older deisel manual. This newer model is quieter and rides better but the engine/gearbox is a let down. Power delivery is initially a bit sluggish but leaps into a fratic take off with minor increase in throttle. The 1,2,3 gears are very close and could be better spaced. Engine stop/start is annoying. As all three of these vans are focused as commercial vehicles why the hell are these sold without an adequate safety barrier as mandatory. As a worker using this every day, there is always a risk of the load entering the cabin in a collision and no commercial vehicle should be allowed to be registered in the contry without a barrier. One of my work colleagues lost his life this way 35 years ago.
I thought the only van you could get in Australia was the Toyota hi ace 😂
You see them all the time in India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa
Would have loved to see the Ford Connect in this review.
Yesss , me too....choice between Citroén Berlingo or Ford Connect L1
We don’t get the Connect in Australia
Why was this test suggested to me with cars being tested having different fuels? This sucks.
Not faire to test diesel and petrol engine
CADDY ES MEJOR MANEJO LIGERO Y EFICIENTE
a bit ridiculous comparing petrol versions to a diesel
Caddy is the best small van
Time chances
I'm surprised that the Volkswagen Crappy is the number one selling van in Australia, I thought you people had more sense than that?
Berlingo 😃😃😃👍
That was not a caddy maxi!
Ford Transit Connect.
John Grytbakk. Not for work. Just to unreliable.
Transit connect is a great van.
@@greatbritain5355 1.6/1.5 diesels are really good.
70l
Why oh why oh why does toyota not make a small van...please why....sod the french shite kangarooo please. Toyata make a small van
They sell a pro ace here...but that is a Berlingo/Partner with a Toyota logo.
The kangoo looks old and ugly
