Have trip planned for last week of this month to go to south florida near juno. Am I going to be too late for mullet run? Never fished it before and is only week can take off and have my pops be able to go with me. If am going to be too late may have to change up plans slightly on how we are prepared. Thank you in advance!

I found hooking sideways through the nose makes the bait live longer because they can open their mouth and breathe better

I’m a fan of circle hooks, but the old Kahle hooks might work better. Another good video!

Careful on local regulations, though. Jig head + natural bait would be illegal in Florida if cast from a boat. Circle hooks only when using natural bait.

In the mouth and out an eye hole works amazingly well. Lots of live bait can be hooked like that and it hides a lot of the hook. Also the hook doesn't turn around and double hook the bait, or take any scales off. Once my buddy showed me that way I started hooking most baits that way because it works.

Add a tiny square if a rubber-band between the bait and the hook shank to keep the bait from riding up the hook shank.

live bait won't slide up hook as they constantly pull down

Back 15 years ago we hook Through the eyesocket to hook mullet this is before circle hooks this is how I caught my first snook . But I see this is a better way to hook them when I have mullet This is the way I’ll hook them in the future.

Can someone tell me the difference between a nautilus light circle hook like the one in this vid and a regular circle hook. Because I’ve used both and they work well but like why😂

What size circle hook? I assume you size up as the mullet gets larger. Also loop knot on the hook to allow it rotate easier?

I utilize the 2.0 and 3.0 OWNER CIRCLE HOOKS and they are perfect for inshore fishing etc etc .. They don't fell .. I've even caught 35 inch REDS with the 2.0 ..

Hook through top lip only, come out one nostril. This way the bait can breathe naturally.

How do you guys feel about rigging the circle hook thru the top lip only? I figured they would struggle to get air if you hook them thru both lips.

That’s how I hook crappie minnows, just the upper lip. However, I suppose hooking through both lips might be better option to keep the mullet more secured to the hook, especially in a stronger current.

@@hiperson5986 for the gills to work , water has to be pulled through the fishes mouth.

For most of my bait I like to put a small treble through the nostrils and another In the back I love the actions from backhooking but find most predators eat headfirst and therefore with larger baits I like an extra treble through the nostrils
