Simple Toy Cars - Beginner woodworking project

  • This video shows a beginner's woodworking project using scrap wood to make toys for my son. I make a car out of oak and a truck out of walnut scraps. Making toys for my son is always satisfying. The best part of the video is near then end when I surprise my son with the new toys. I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making these toys.
    I use an old Sprunger scroll saw, my Mastercraft drill press and my Dewalt orbital sander. For finish I use Honey Bee's wood conditioner, which is a mix of mineral oil and bees wax, available at my local hardwood supplier, KJP Select Hardwoods, in Ottawa, Ontario.

    I would’ve been so sad if you did not share his reaction!! 😂 soooo cute. And the cars are perfect! Thanks for sharing because I’ve been searching how to make a simple wooden axle like this. Thanks!

    Absolutely awesome! Brings back memories of the types of toys we had when I was young. Great way to teach children they dont have to have the newest electronic toys. You adorable son is lucky to have a father like you! Keep up the great work.

    Awesome man! Loving your stuff! Only constructive crit I would throw out is during your fast forward sections. Cut the video audio out then maybe dub over those time periods if you feel you have educational and/or entertaining things to say? Just a thought but love it all either way.

    Great video thank you for sharing. I do have one question what was the thickness of the wood that you used. Many thanks. Paul.

    • @TheGrantAlexander
      @TheGrantAlexander  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching and commenting, happy to answer your question! The wood was bought rough from a lumber yard at 4/4 (i.e. one inch) and I took as little as possible off. It ended up being around 7/8" for the ash and closer to 1" for the cherry. Thanks again for watching 👍🍻

    • @TheGrantAlexander
      @TheGrantAlexander  Před 4 lety

      I was thinking about your comment and if your question is about how thick the frame would sit off the wall, then the answer to that is 1.5"
