You can often find the wider horsehair braid (usually known as crin in the UK - short for crinoline, something else in US I think) with a fine draw string along one edge which really helps you to pull in the top edge evenly around the skirt. I've even sewn one in myself for a very curved hem when one batch came without it. Takes extra time to do it yourself but the finish is so much better and easier to do. You can remove it after sewing if your fabric is sheer. You'll also get a better result if you try to sew more evenly around the skirt hem than here. Keep it around 3/8" for a beautiful neat edge as too much variance can show on the hem levels.

I love the shape horsehair braid creates. I turn into such a sewing nerd when I see it on a garment "in the wild" and proceed to tell whomever I'm with that, "Hey there's horsehair braid in that hem!"

Thank you so much, I've been trying to figure out how to adjust the inner circumference to accommodate.

Hey, my skirt doesn’t give this fall. It looks more round only. What could be the issue? Thank you

Can horsehair braid be used on stretchy fabric?

  • @constanceconniefreitag4393

The longer your skirt is would dictate how wide your horsehair braid should be correct?

If I'm making a skirt with lining that is almost the same length as the skirt itself, do I need horsehair braid in the lining AND the top, or just the top?

  • @theperfectimperfectfamily13

I didn't see it on there website

Would horsehair be a good way to stabilize the poof of an 8 paneled/fired skirt? I don't want to use a petticoat, so I'm wondering if I should try this or interfacing

Great tutorial! I have one major question: how do you get the horsehair braid to lay in line with the curved the circle skirt?

      @kalynmarie850 Před 4 lety +1

You have to stitch along one side of the braid before you put it in so you can pull the stitches to "ease" the braid down to lay flat- at least that's what I saw in another tutorial

Will you share the link for the amazon link for the horse hair braid?

What is your suggestion when horse hair gets jammed. I am experiencing the needle sewing over one string which caused it to pull and damage the horsehair.

Use a different needle ball point or check your tension

What is a different way to do the ends of the horsehair braid if you are using tulle? U don't think using bias will look good or is that the only way?

    • @darknessfierce4209

Maybe make the bias out of tulle or the same fabric you’re using
Or serge, zigzag or hand overcast the ends
