Keto Diet vs. Paleo Diet: Which Diet is Healthiest for You- Thomas DeLauer… The idea behind the Paleolithic diet is to replicate the ways that our ancestors ate; ancestors could only hunt and gather - had little access to grains and no access to processed foods. The ketogenic diet is designed to completely alter your internal state, a state in which your body burns fat. The Keto diet was originally developed for disease management and to this day is being used for conditions such as epilepsy.
So, a paleo diet, just like a keto diet, focuses on getting fat and protein as a primary source of energy. However, the big difference is paleo doesn’t avoid carbs. While both diets came about for different reasons, they are both used (mainstream-ly) as effective tools for weight loss.
Similarities - Health Benefits
In addition to noticeable weight loss effects, collective studies from the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of Internal Medicine, The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, and the New England Journal of Medicine have found that both Paleo and Keto diets are effective at reducing triglycerides, blood pressure, blood sugar and insulin levels (1,2,3,4)
Despite providing similar health benefits, they do have some key differences.
Key Differences:
Carbs, Fats and Glucose- The main difference is that a Keto diet is truly low carb, whereas a Paleo diet is not necessarily low carb - paleo relies on glucose and keto relies on ketones
A keto diet requires you to adhere to a strict macronutrient ratio (75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carb) The paleo diet still utilizes glucose for much of its energy so carbs are still a big part of the diet. In order to be in ketosis and utilize ketones, your body needs to be starved of glucose, which results in the body burning fatty acids that produce ketones; an alternative source of energy to glucose. Ketosis is a state that you have to achieve, paleo is about avoiding certain food groups. So a paleo diet is a little more forgiving as having too much of one macro or another won’t kick you out of a metabolic state, unlike keto.
Dairy:
The Paleo diet removes foods that are hard for the body to break down and can wreak havoc on gut health - dairy products are one of them. Keto dieters often eat dairy products because they’re high in fats while also being low in carbohydrates.
Artificial Sweeteners/Food Quality:
The Paleo diet cuts out most processed food, especially ones with artificial sweeteners and additives - focuses strongly on choosing whole foods that are nutrient-dense, high-quality, and free from toxins. However, on the Keto diet the only requirements are that your food is low-carb/high fat. This means diet soda is technically Keto approved and so are other artificially sweetened low-carb junk foods - Although a healthy Keto diet should also include high quality food, it isn’t the emphasis. Summed as short as possible - No processed foods vs no carbs (5)
Paleo and CrossFit:
Carbs are staples for CrossFit and athletes, but they are somewhat restricted in the Paleo diet. The Paleo diet also eliminates grains and legumes (both key carb sources for athletes), as well as dairy, salt, and vegetable oils. Carbs that are allowed on the paleo diet (no grains, for example) are too low on the glycemic index to replace glycogen mid- and post-run as quickly as endurance athletes typically need. You’re not low enough on carbs to be producing ketones so you’re not using fat as a main source of energy, and not high enough on carbs to be receiving enough energy from them (6)

RELAX, I do both, now doing Omad keto for a month, then two to three weeks Paleo. Then do it again.
Lost 70 pounds. No inflammation, pain, or headaches.
Did u start this after reaching your goal weight
I like your approach 👍🏼.
Thanks
Your comment is much clearer
I, for one, was highly concerned that you might have only been doing one or the other. I can now relax.
Please help me, lol can u give me example of an easy go to day if eating I can look at and copy to lose weight I am 53 and need to lose 20 pounds.. and no one around me cares what they eat, well if it is good for them they won’t eat it!! Ugh
Very misleading to show picture of grains when you say that paleo allows carbs-paleo doesn’t allow any grains!
Joan Black it’s the editors they don’t know what they are doing
They allow fruits, which have carbs
Beans are a grain technically.
Joel W certain fruits? as far as I know, only berries (not strawberries) and tomatoes are the only fruits allowed on keto
@@protonmatty leave my damn beans alone NIGGA!
I'm Paleo... We don't eat any dairy (as noted), any bread products (Tom got that wrong), any processed foods, any sugar, and we don't eat tons of fruit (got that wrong). Meat, veg, few types of nuts, good fats only.
do you eat potatoes?
Robert Pace i was thinking the same thing hes wrong i do not eat and gluten breads and eat minimal fruit. And no dairy so is he wrong or am I more keto instead of Paleo
Same, I’m paleo and I don’t eat ANY gluten or wheat products
Mikaella no potatoes either... So he is wrong... Bc all Paleo sources I have found said NO grain whosoever, no potatoes, and no dairy.
I was thinking the same thing. Paleo does not include any processed carbohydrates . We eat potatoes but only sweet potatoes. We make our bread with almond - tapioca or coconut flour.
This video is very confusing 🙈
I did Keto for a few months but wound up with too many cravings. 20 grams of carbs a day maximum was a dealbreaker. So I started doing modified Keto instead, limiting sugar, eating healthy fats, protein, and vegetables like kale, spinach, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and esparragos, and drinking plenty of water and seltzer, but allowing myself to have between 50-60 grams of carbs a day, which still isn't a whole lot. This combined with exercise 3 to 4 days a week with weights. It worked for a few of my friends as they lost fat, weight, and gained muscle. I also do a whole lot of walking.
Jack Murray i lost 70 pounds doing exactly that. Good job bro!
Yes keto & these cravings . Not even hunger so much just pure torturous cravings 😂.... I love keto it keeps me full especially during Ramadan but I might have to stop and do just 50 carbs because when I break my fast at night I just stay craving sweets and I’m not even a sweets type of person!
What does 60g of carbs look like? How is it measured?
When I do keto I crave cold salads with bunch of avocados 🥑 🥗 and some chicken and a good fatty sauce like tzatziki
Calling it "modified Keto" is BS, strict ketosis or not keto. This diet is more LCHF or just low carb, which is also what I've been doing lately.
Why do you keep putting clips of bread when talking about paleo? Peleo doesn’t include bread... mixed signals here
That's what I was thinking the whole time. I actually came to the comment section to see what was going on with that.
As far as I understood the Paleo diet was cutting out dairy, processed foods, AND carbs
Amen sister! Bread is super toxic for your body!
There is paleo bread...
Witnesstheburden no there isn't. There's Chapatis and other unleavened flour based breads but it's not paleo and defeats the purpose of the diet.
Adam Maliski try this taste just like bread m.czcams.com/video/zsl5ENgZnr0/video.html
Love your videos, Tom. There's so much confusion out there when it comes to diet and nutrition and you really give great advice and you don't tend to follow the newest trend. I also appreciate the science behind your topics. Keep up the good work!
Jake Bohannan glad to help!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for doing this video. I have been paleo keto for several years. I was keto and had dairy issues. Broke up with dairy, added a few more veggies, now I feel great and I dropped 50#’s. As an endurance athlete, not sure who I thought I was running ultras that heavy!! My knees and legs feel amazing now!
Thanks Thomas! I am just loving your vids. They are so helpful, clear, precise, and knowledgeable. I'm in my 5th week of Keto and loving how easy it's been. Down 11 pounds and feel great. 9 more to go but not really consumed with the weight loss as much as how good I feel and learning to cook much more creatively.
I think a huge problem surrounding both of these diets is the issue of classification. Both diets have so much to offer… Cherry pick the strong points from each and figure out a protocol. Personally, I like how paleo tends to focus mainly on clean ingredients and a cleaner lifestyle. When this perspective is taken into a ketogenic diet, the combination is powerful. I think adhering to a definition is a pretty stupid way to live life. Just take the philosophies, do the best you can, and don't stress it too much.
Great point!
I have Crohn’s and cannot have dairy, refined carbs or sugars as these affect me quite harshly. It was a documentary on Paleo that got me eating healthy and a Keto Video that made me pay attention. I now follow a “crohn’s-friendly keto” diet ... basically Paleo in ketosis state. Started in May, and honestly the best 5 months of my life 💕
Your videos are by a long way the clearest & easiest to understand I have found where it comes to explaining different diets and how they work.
This is my first video of yours I watched & I appreciate how you explain things in a comprehensible & humble way. Thanks

Vanessa Garcia - that's a good thing :)
it is, i've done it for years. ;)
I started keto 5 weeks ago and I'm down 16.5lb

Not at all. He hates dairy
I've been working out for several years and cutting calories trying to lose the stomach fat I've acquired since I hit my 50s but have had no positive results. After watching your videos along with those by Dr. Jason Fung, I started intermittent fasting (from dinner to dinner - no breakfast or lunch) for either 4 or 5 days a week. I "cheat" on the weekends and eat 2 or 3 meals per day. I have also timed my workouts in the afternoon at the end of my fast according to your advice. I've been doing this for a month and have seen a huge improvement in lost fat around my midsection. I have also felt so much better and not had any of the headaches or weakness that I worried about before starting fasting. When I do eat meals I find my portions are much smaller and I'm not craving junk like I did before.
This is fantastic for when I work up plans for my clients. Thank you, Thomas! Once again, you've shown up and presented! So thankful!
I really enjoyed how you contrasted the two different diets very simply and noted how they are both great choices when followed correctly! 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, I really trust you. I just started a Keto and have been following you and Dr. Berg . I came from a plant based diet and boy do those vegans speak badly about Keto. I was getting confused. This helped a lot. I really enjoyed your unbiased and informed comparasion.
Mona Lisa Mendiola glad I can help!! Thanks for watching!
then again vegans speak bad about everyone lol
@@gsruffneck Must be that B12 deficiency lol
Mona Lisa Mendiola Thats because keto recommends some foods that are very unhealthy for you. People lose weight on keto eating some very unhealthy foods. It is much better to lose weight the healthy way, NOT lose weight the unhealthy way.
@@cmvr9138 Veganism is a religion. It's just an ideology based on feeling sympathy for animals , nothing more.
I’ve been doing paleo for 73 days. I keep a food diary that I summarize my eating habits for that day it, and in this time I’ve lost 23 pounds. I feel good and I like the way I look. I am also an athlete. I run track and weight lift. So I don’t necessarily agree with the not really losing weight comment. However, I can see if someone goes from eating junk/unhealthy foods and they cut it out, they could lose weight regardless. Before this I was gaining weight at a steady pace and I was not eating healthy. I love paleo, but I’ve been looking at keto just to get educated. I don’t quite understand it tho.
Thank you, good video. Wife and I have been doing paleo for 2-3 years with moderate success in terms of weight loss - now I know why. Switched to paleo+keto (in the way you describe at the end of the video) about two months ago and now things are moving along very nicely. Love your channel btw.
Thank you for this video...I’m starting Paleo to start since it’s close to what I’ve always eaten in the past but may transition to Keto to see if I’m able to handle the shift...🤗🤞🏽🙏🏽...appreciate your time and care to explain the differences! 💜
Do a video on gaining muscle while staying productive. Carbs make me sleepy and tired
I’ve made the switch from keto to paleo, in order to maintain my weight, so far it’s been great! I haven’t gained any weight back and feel amazing. I don’t eat a ton of fats, nor do I eat a ton of fruits. I balance my meals with lots of veggies and balanced foods.
I loved this video. I have been trying to understand the difference between the two and this was very helpful. Thanks for posting.
I feel very lucky to come across your video. I was so confused of what Keto and Paleo Diets were. You have simplified it for me, Thank You, Thank You. You gave very clear information about these diets, I will share with my 6 week challenge group.
I've binged watched so many videos. I've been inundated with information. I've experimented a little bit with all the "right ways" to do keto and lots are pretty contradictory. What I've realized is listen to your body. It knows. I've thought back to childhood, back to when I was my healthiest. Back to before all my inflammatory diseases began. And how I ate, what I craved. Think about how my life and health went totally down hill after months of paying a personal trainer and following his nutrition plan. Every body and every body is different. Take all the info as guidelines and figure out what works for you. Keto has ended my chronic pain and I feel better than I have in 20yrs. I'm losing weight. My energy and my mental focus is great. But when I start closely following macros I don't feel as good as when I just listen to my body. I eat a little less fat than recommend I eat more protein when recommend. Sometimes I fast more than recommend. Those are the times I feel the best. My body doesn't do well on coconut oil so I avoid it.
Looking back I realize I was a keto child naturally. So much so that I was tested for celiac and diabetes as a child because I had such adverse affects to carbs and sugars and never wanted to eat them. I often didn't want to eat a meal just once a day. I never craved sugar or carbs I craved a blue rare steak.
Being told this was unhealthy and I needed to eat 6 times a day lots of fruits and whole grains. I gained a lot of weight. Body became riddled with inflammatory diseases.
If I only listened to my body instead of all the experts I wouldn't have spent the past 20yrs in debilitating pain. I also wonder if I would've developed crohns disease at all. They're some science showing a link between gluten and crohns and inflammatory arthritis and eczema. *Raises hand for all 3*
Doctors, nutritionists, experts took an active healthy happy child/teen and created a very sick person. Just because I didn't want crabs and sugars and I didn't want to eat 3 meals a day. Screw macros, screw rules, listen to your body and what makes you feel the best. Take the tonnes of info as a guideline and find what works for you. What gets you results you can live with while feeling great. Everybody and Every BODY is different.
“Listen to your body” the wisest thing ever!
This!!!! I'm allergic to apples and I remember being told to eat an apple a day! I also don't like any fruit except lemons and ones like avocado and tomato (which I can only tolerate cooked).
You're exactly right, every body is different - doing what's best for someone else could make me very sick, it's about finding what's best for me.
I do like keto but I am not a super heavy meat eater naturally so I'm figuring out what works best for my body. I am healthier than I've felt in a long time too.
Then there should be different laws for different people
Omg literally I was just searching abt keto vs paleo a few minutes ago and u uploaded this video, I'm terrified, are u a mind reader lol Love ur videos btw :)
Thank you for explaining! I've been looking for answering to this question! This video was very helpful. :)
Amazingly insightful- thanks dude!👍
Start on a ketogenic diet, and then when you have reached your weight objective, switch to a Paleo diet.
Or not.
That’s what I’m thinking.
what about if I am already a thin person but just want to achieve a healthy body because my family has high blood pressure and I dont want that to happen to me?
Agree
@@jeffreydelossantos8667
Go with Paleo, Dash, or Mediterranean.
Low carb (or lower carb anyone) would also be a tranition option.
Absolutely wrong. Paleo and Keto refer to different things. Paleo only refers to the sources of foods, not the levels of macronutrients. Just as you can be keto while being vegan or carnivorous, you can be paleo while being high carb or keto. You admit it at the end, but only after wrongly showing loafs of bread when you say paleo.
YES... this is what I find myself explaining to people all the time. Keto is QUANTITY focused and Paleo is QUALITY focused.
Great info thanks for posting.
Thank you for this video! Once again very educational. Love all your videos, keep up the amazing content!

Thank you sooooo much for this! I didn't know the difference and am now grateful I know. Thank you!
You Rock! That video pretty much answered all my questions and gave me more information to make an informative decision. Thank you for all you do!
I was once on a fruitarian diet and I hardly had any body fat. Fruit isn’t pure pharmaceutical grade fructose. I hate to hear people talk about it like that, it’s incredibly misleading.
OMG I lose my mind when I hear people say "Don't eat a lot of fruit, it as sugar!" Its not natural sugar found in fruit that makes people fat. Its all the processed man made crap they put in every damn thing. Good post.
When i was younger i lost 27 kgs in 1month and a half!!! I did only fruit and that included canned fruit in syrup. My breakfast would be 2 slices of toast and a glass of non fat milk. I was also working out.
You state "I did only fruit". Obviously you were not doing only fruit as you say your breakfast would be 2 slices of toast and a glass of non fat milk. The Keto and Paleo diet is especially helpful for people who are struggling with insulin resistance. Sounds like that was not you @@liveandletlive7152 .
@@elizabethlavet7528 i could have probably explained myself better...sorry.
I meant to say that after my breakfast of toast and milk i would then eat only fruit and nothing else.I was in my early or mid 20's at the time and was not following any specific diet but i was amazed at the 27kgs i lost. I was not looking to control my insulin. I just wanted to drop weight then.Hope that clears it for you😉

My experience suggests that the ketogenic diet is over-hyped. A good diet ougt to be easy to adhere to and be healthy. Agoge diet is a great option, I lost a lot of persistent belly fat.
Agoge diet works great, I've been using it for about 3 weeks
What is agoge? Is another name for carnivore diet?
Guys agoge comments are paid shills or bots from some guy tryna promote his diet
This is exactly what I needed to hear. When first beginning Keto I did well and then listening to too many this and that - landed in the dairy and sweeteners and yup, weight loss stalled. Much appreciated video to get back on right track. Thanks!
Weight loss is only about caloric restriction, you don't need to do any magical macro diets for it. You can loose weight by eating anything, as long as you eat less than what you consume.
These type of extreme diets are just bad tools for weight loss, as you don't form a healthy balanced diet. And when you stop the diet, you are back eating too much.
jannu jokunen Metabolic rate is always ignored by people like you. When you create a calory deficit, your body tries to compensate by burning less calories. Only when you force yourself to exercize you can force your body to keep burning enough calories. The keto diet, which is not extreme at all, switches off this compensation of burning less calories because the body has access to either dietary fat or body fat. In ketosis your body keeps burning calories and doesn't try to reduce the metabolic rate. Even without exercizing you lose weight.
So you are right about needing a caloric deficit. Just don't ignore variations in metabolic rate.
"The keto diet, which is not extreme at all, switches off this compensation of burning less calories because the body has access to either dietary fat or body fat."
There is no metabolic advantage in keto. And keto is extreme, its as extreme as it gets. And for no purpose. Its one of the rare diets that has killed people.
jannu jokunen Calorie restriction, when on a high carb diet, causes metabolism to slow down. You think you're eating less than you're burning, but you aren't.
When you're young and don't have insulin resistance yet, you can get away with eating less and exercizing more. But when you're older, this becomes increasingly more difficult, especially when you have been eating many times a day.
In the 70s the food advice was changed to more carbs and less fat, and since then obesity has been getting worse. It's just the way it is. Before the 60's it was comon knowledge that in order to lose weight, you had to eat less carbs. Then from the 70s on, that was changed into eating less calories. And people have been getting heavier and heavier ever since.
And the whole "its carbs and the carbs industry who sells you carrots", just shows how clueless people are. Refined fat use has been going up all the time. Its in everything.

What about metabolic flexibility ... when the body is able to work with ketones and glucose ... isn't this possible?
Carriesshoetick Well it is not. To run on ketones you must be in ketosis -then your liver will start making keton bodies. For this to happen you must run out all your carbs in your body.
Nieczerwony summed it up, though there's controversy that women may need carbs at certain times in a cycle, I can't tell you if that's real, but you may want to consider it.
I think it is possible, but it works great by fasting not by ingesting huge quantities of fats, for me. I don't like fatty foods. Not diary for sure. Endurance sport in fasted state is great but I don't like to be out of carbs for heavy resistance training. What I do is eating many carbs only in days of heavy lifting and many less in days of endurance such as bike or running. I had some problem when doing a plant based diet, difficult to reduce carbs (but fasting can help there too), hope with some (organic etc.) animal food it be easier. If you do long endurance you go in ketosis even with some carbs eaten. No reason to calculate stuff, that's for sedentary people, just run/bike in fasted state etc and eat less carbs that day, flexibility will improve
You need your own podcast TD!
majic noodles24 I concur!
Thank you for explaining this.
Great information, thank you so much!
Hey Thomas are there any drawbacks to being in ketosis a few days in a row and then out for a day or two? I know its worse than strict keto but are there dangers vs just a normal diet?
Emenlll I have wondered the same thing
Emenlll no
Cyclic keto diet is super healthy in my opinion. Especially for women who can get hormonal benefits from having some carbs during their cycle. So I say go for it but the key to health in my mind is getting low meal frequency by intermittent fasting. Fasting switches the metabolism the best for me.
Is it okay for an alcoholic to drink only on weekends? You're justifying your carb addiction just like any addict.
Pvt. Grips I am not sure the analogy is apt. I am talking about whole food carbs even a baked sweet potato or maybe some fries as a treat. If you are highly insulin sensitive my understanding is that it can help you with cortisol and overall hormone balance. For me fasting is more important than keto or paleo. But that's just what works for me.

My blood pressure shot up and my resting heart rate increased after 8 days on keto. I'm normally very fit and healthy, I just thought I'd give keto a go but this worried me so I stopped. Any ideas as to why this happened? Also can you do a video of what you eat in a day with the macros listed out for each meal? You're lean, bulked, and by the sounds of things very healthy. A state in which a lot of us would like to be. Thanks
Dane, have you monitored your potassium intake while on keto? Low carb diets "flush out" sodium and potassium from your body. Water binds to sodium, that is the reason why you lose water. One of the functions potassium plays in our body is regulate heart rate and proper function. You should be consuming around 4500 to 5000mg of potassium daily, and about 1000mg more than your recommended sodium intake. I normally get my potassium using LoSalt or any salt substitute that replaces the sodium for potassium. Then you can add pink Himalayan salt for your sodium goals.
Keto flu! You lose a lot of Electrolites (Na, K, Mg) and water with it. You blood volume Decreased and you heart and arteries compensate that Raising your pulse and Contracting the smooth muscle of your arteries (getting your pressure up)
Okay, thanks. Does it pass? And also, is it bad for your health?
I had heart palpitations when I first started keto because I did not know about the flush of electrolytes. As soon as I added them the symptoms went straight away. And, yes, if you are micro-nutrient deficient (vitamins and minerals) you will be putting your body under stress and you can develop health issues. Make sure you eat lots of green veggies and hit your electrolytes daily goals and you will be fine.
Cool, thanks Gus

No grains
I asked on your live FB post about a video possibly on a Liver recipe. Getting all those minerals and vitamins.
Great video, very informative. I've been doing a combination of paleo and keto for 2 weeks. I went from 206 to 186. I've been hitting the gym practically everyday and do a mix of Tabata then 20 minute cardio. I also work almost every muscle group to increase fat burn. My question is how long does it typically take to lose the lower belly fat? I've had a 4 pack before but never got rid of the lower belly fat. Any suggestions?
Awesome and informative video! I have a question, im having hair problems and im trying to incorporate some foods that are really good for hair ( avocados, salmon, strawberries, and sweet potato) though im still trying to stay in ketosis, i know if i keep my strawberry portion low I wont have any problems, but if I have half a sweet potato its around 11-12 g of net carbs, would that kick me out of ketosis? i know im suppose to stay below 20 g of carbs, but im confused if the 20 g of carbs has to specifically come from vegetables or other keto approved foods, or if i can still get those carbs from common carbohydrate sourced foods.

You can eat any fruit in small quantities as long as you don't exceed 50 grams of carbs per day. Wild berries, grapefruit, plums, low carb fruits is what you want, stay away from bananas and durian.
Basically what NyttNorge said, I particularly enjoy his mention of wild berries, since they're not bred to be sweet and large, thus a wild strawberry resting under a giant redwood probably more keto friendly than most strawberries in the average market, but the average market berries are still good options, just not as great, if you browse enough there's probably some adequate edible native berries, if it's from a native-loving nursery then the plants are probably close to or "identical" to wjat grows wildly, I personally want to get a sugarbush... the name isn't promising, but it's native to these kinds of areas in California and has edible berries, on the shaded side of this house we have strawberries, not native to this part of California I don't think, but they're nice, but this variety was bred for size and sweetness sadly.
If you really want fruit, you can eat small amount of berries.
And Avocado is a fruit btw, you can eat a lot of that :)
More great content! THANKS!! Can you please so a video on all the workout bars/cookies on the market and their confusing labels. Which are good, if any, on the Keto Lifeplan.... THANKS!
Thanks for the tips!!!
Hey Thom could you do a more in-depth discussion on the fruit not going to your muscles but instead going to your waist line
ddizzler2 I'm not sure if while fruit does because of the fiber. You can lose weight on high carb or high fat.
fukthegoog No it doesn‘t. Pure fructose doesn‘t make you fat. I‘ve never seen a single frutarian being fat. Or highcarb vegans. They are usually pretty skinny too.
fukthegoog actually it’s the liver that do the hard work, fructose goes directly to the liver where it’s processed. It’s safe to say that fructose cause more harm to your liver than alcohol does. You can get fatty acid quickly and that’s just the start.
Ransell Martinez But not if you have a normal fruit consumption. You need fruit because of all the vitamins. If you eat a banana, a couple of berries a day or a mango your liver can totally handle it. You can overdose on anything.
I do love me some berries :)
But when I cut the daily smoothie I lost more weight....
Keto is one of the best things to ever happen to me .... I always looked good lol but now I feel as good as I look and I'm stronger than I have been now that I'm fully adapted
The only thing I worry about is NOT eating enough because I go so hard at the gym
How long did it take you to fully adapt? I'm 2 months in, my body is still acting up a little from time to time.
Khalil Hannah, congratulations!
I used IMF 23/1 to shorten the adaptation time considerably..
Your really stronger? That surprises me considering muscles use glucose primarily
Very well explained, very clear. Thank you! :D
Glad you made this. I see a lot of recipes for paleo. I just started making videos to show how to cook on keto diet. (I convert paleo recipes into keto most of the time in my videos)
What your opinion about taking creatine through the ketosis? tnx
Nikola Jović yea I was wondering if creatinine or arginine would knock me out of ketosis like the bcaas
Aren't these all amino acids. Why would they put you out of ketosis? I'm consuming creatine while in keto.
lockhrt999 because Thomas said in a past video that bcaas absorb so quickly that they spike insulin kicking one out of ketosis. Since creatine and arginine are aminos I wasn't sure if they cause the same insulin spike
jsmeezzie7 okay by that rule creatine and arginine shouldn't cause insulin spike because they don't get quickly absorbed like bcaa
It's not bother me that creatine can kick me out of ketosis, I only care about benefits of using creatine as supplement through the ketosis. I don't eat a lot of meat that contein creatin in and that's why i want to add him as supplement, because i usually have very good respond with it. My question is: Is creatin safe to use when you are on ketons as fuel, also do you have benefits of using him?
@0:54 you said there are "limited grains" on the Paleo & I'd like to know where you learned this, because it is NOT on the original Paleo by Dr Loren Cordain. It's one of those false facts made up by people who are either too lazy or misinformed & I wish you would stop adding yourself to the mix of people who don't seem to know or understand what true Paleo Living is all about.
what are you thoughts on cyclical ketosis adding carbs once every 5-7 days say with bodybuilding workouts
Great video and explanation!
Paleo saved my life! Not a fan of Keto for more than 3 months at a time!
I alternate between by doing Paleo for breakfast then keto the rest of the day, and I fast one day a week.
Kimberly Lou did you follow a particular person on YT to learn about Paleo? We are trying to learn more about Paleo but all the vids i see here are fruit and Almond “ milk”. Are sausage patties or bacon a “ processed” food?
I find myself having more Paleo and going Keto twice a week, along with IF (16-8)
Yeap thats the one
Thats a perfect combo. It seem riculous and unsustainable to virtually shut off eating carbs. Its about getting a balance. Life is for living aswell and never regularly having carbs again is a bit like torturing yourself. Plus all that fat consuming on a pure keto diet will eventually cause high cholesterol and heart problems.
I would say the most balanced and sustainable approach would be to Keto 2/7 days of the week, paleo the other 5/7 days of the week and do 16/8 intermittent fasting 16hour fast/8hour eating window (lean gains diet) every single day. And absolute minimal or no alcohol intake. Now that is a recipe for long term success!
prab singh i wonder of you even get into ketosis with in a two day period?
Thank you for explaining you do it so well
Definitely makes things clear and offers great advice no matter what diet you choose!
Just comes down to what your personal goals are.
(No bread ) is eaten on the Paleo diet.
I prefer paleo with a few keto tweaks to it. And practicing fasting will force your body to burn fat for fuel also and yea ... it's not like paleo eats tons of carbs... misleading showing a whole bakery like that's what paleo is all about 🤣
I can not believe that you can not eat rice in any of those diets when Asians eat tons of rice daily and are so thin and healthy!
They’re skinny fat it’s not the same at all
And they are not healthy. They get surgery and go on massive restrictive diet. They have to be skinny and tall in order to find a job (women). They may be eating rice but drink a lot of tea with laxative in it and they make sure that they don’t eat to many calories . There are a lot of documentaries about how women in China get surgeries to be taller and thinner. Also, in Japan, for instance, they may be eating rice but the rest of the food is pretty much healthy (natural fat, protein and vegetable) not so may junk food. The population walks a lot too. My friend lived in Japan for 3 years and when he moved back to Quebec (canada) is was soooooo much skinnier and even if he tried to stay healthy, he gained back some of his weight because the food in Canada is not as fresh and healthy as in Japan. If you think about it, rice is only 250 per cup. So if you eat 500 cal of rice per day you still have 1300 calories left (for women ) . When you eat healthy and you have a balance lifestyle, you will see that it is hard to reach 1800 calories a day cause it is too filling. If you work out a lot then it will be easier to consummate calories. Get rid of junk food and empty calories, 1800 for a women is lots of calories. (Sorry for my syntax, English is my second language)
Thomas, I love your videos, so educational!! ❤️ Only just started Keto this week and would love it if you could do some what I eat in a day videos please!! 😁
You pretty much nailed it. Thanks!
