    Just think of the Ghibli as a Kardashian. It can't act but it looks good in pictures. I respect the review but it also makes me sad because I love the styling of the Ghibli.

      You have done a fine job of putting the Ghibli into perspective.As I stated in my original comment, I love the looks of the Ghibli and thats why I sought out this video. There is a place for a bland reliable perfection but there is also a place for a car that stirs your emotions and makes you feel alive as the Ghibli apparently does.

      @Anthony F : well written. I have found myself defending the Ghibli all over CZcams, I can't believe how many haters and trolls this car has brought out. I drive a 2012 Jaguar XF Portfolio (5.0) and its a great overall car, wonderful to drive, but SOMETHING is missing....and I feel like when I am in the market for a Ghibli here soon I'll find that missing piece of personality. (A lot of it probably has to do with the incredible exhaust note)

      Only Italians can make flawed cars so desirable you want to buy and make it out with your heart and soul.

    I have the same color combination SQ4. Let me tell you this. I had M3, Z4M, and M6 before.
    I have never been this excited to wake up and drive a car. The engine note, the way its shortcomings become so sexy is heavenly.
    I just push it sport and manual buttons and just take off. I dont have a clue where radio is and signal is hard to reach and NAV..I dont care. All I see is what I feel. And the way she waits you in the garage and that sound of cold start...AMAZING!

      I'm thinking about getting one used with under 10k or 15k miles, couple years old. I found some eye-popping deals on them lol. I'd honestly rather drive this around than a brand-new 2022 minivan or Infinity or something. Looks and sounds really cool, has some power and is pretty well made no matter how you look at it. It may not be stunning compared to other cutting-edge, foreign luxury cars but if you get a used one for cheap I think it could be fun as hell to own. 😄

    I've driven my friends Ghibli for about a week and I can say that it is most certainly an entertaining car to drive, but more for beginners. It feels safe, even when you're going MUCH faster than you should. It sounds like an angel screaming at a football game. It gets decent fuel economy. As far as price and quality of materials, however, the reviewer was correct. You cannot justify the price tag with the quality

    I just saw one of these parked outside a Lawyer's office. I understand looks are subjective but I honestly thought it looked damn good. It had a beautiful profile no matter where you looked at it from, and it has a nice stance.
    I guess at the end of the day, you must judge for yourself and take one for a spin.

      @bwest6275 Před 9 lety +6

      Henry Perez agreed that the exterior is mostly beautiful (the rear needs a rework though). But aside from the exterior looks, that interior just doesn't scream exotic luxury to match the exterior. Perhaps if someone has never seen a Mercedes/Audi/BMW interior, that interior would impress. But it looks pretty dated when compared to the German competition. And i'm sorry, but for the asking price, they should never let any shared components from lesser expensive cars make it into the "visual" touches of final product. That's just sad and insulting to the brand, let alone the buyer imho.

    • @HenryPerez_royal_hp
      @HenryPerez_royal_hp Před 9 lety +3

      Brian Westfield No doubt about it, the inside of this looks ok, though pales when compared to its more refined German rivals.
      I like it though, it's different. Everywhere you look there is either a three point star or that darned (though lovely, i must confess) propeller.

    Maserati design, history,brand and even the engine sound are timeless . Very difficult to find a good deal in the pre-owned market since a Maserati car maintains very well its value a lot of fans. The BMW,Mercedes sedans are good cars but after few years they loose value and compared to a Maserati have totally difference customers. Maserati are for people with passion for cars, BMW-5 and Mercedes class-E are sedan you see often used for hotel airport pick-up or by retired people with a passion for golf.

    • @bwest6275
      @bwest6275 Před 9 lety +1

      I love it when people leverage the fact that Mercedes Benzes are used as Taxis to somehow belittle the brand the fact is that is a real world example of a car being chosen due to its reliability. A company investing in a fleet of cars doesn't want a car that will be riddled with problems to fix. When I see a Mercedes Taxi or service vehicle, that gives me an idea of how educated the company is as it costs more to put a fleet of MB vehicles on the road, but the true value becomes apparent in the long run.
      Referencing the Maserati history in the context of this version of the Ghibli is pure irony. This car is wrong starting with its name being put on a four door sedan. It sounds like young all people should have know that as a start. Then all the other shared parts and just OK features and performance that are nothing worthy of the trident should really show that this is not the car Maserati can truly build. This is a Marketing project car to minimize investment to maximize profit. The problem is they don't know how to do that in a convincing car yet.
      I can imagine not everyone from Maserati was happy with this result. But when you get bought out, things aren't in your full control.

    So, I know that this comment is made much later than the original video. Apparently, this reviewer is not a Maserati or Ghibli owner. I have owned many high end auto brands including Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, etc. I purchase the majority of my vehicles as low mileage off lease deals and normally drive them an additional three years until I move on. I have always admired the Maserati brand and decided to purchase a used Ghibli. Of course, I read all of the negative reviews prior to my purchase but it seemed that those reviews were all written by people who never actually owned one. I really enjoyed my Dodge Challenger and had zero issues with the car and it was quite easy to operate meaning the interior parts, switches, gadgets etc. So I have no problem with the interior similarities on the Ghibli. I purchased a 2016 SQ4 model with one owner and only 21k miles on it six months ago. I have had zero issues, bought a comprehensive warranty just in case and I have no idea what this guy is talking about. The seating is extremely comfortable equal or better than the Volvo S90 that I just traded and the car rides beautifully. And fast...yes sir. Hard to keep it under 50 mph. The constant hum is the beautiful noise that comes from the Ferrari engine and the exhaust note...spectacular! This is not a vehicle for the average driver. It is a heavy, nimble sport sedan. Not a Toyota Camry. I get waves, stopped for comments and constant "Nice car" shouts all of the time. Don't believe the one and done reviews. Read the owner reviews of which most people rave about their Maserati. I have a smile every time is start my Ghibli and can't wait to get on the road. Yes, the brand new price may be steep, but wait a few years and be bold. The car brings me nothing but enjoyment. And she is gorgeous!

    My Benz CLS 550 lease is ending soon so I'm looking at this car. My main worry about these non-mainstream cars like Audi, BMW, MBenz, etc is their technology integration is archaic and not updated often. I have admittedly not drive one yet - I'm setting up a test drive this weekend, and I'll be sure to play around with it. The best part about this car is the price, I priced it out online and it came to just under $10k less than my CLS 550 was - with slightly better options. Love the look and uniqueness!

Positive: Styling and Information system, engine sound under acceleration. Negative: Engine drone at highway speed and rattles. My car was a loaner so it was pretty well beat but still the rattles were disturbing. One more positive, those people in my area who have pulled the trigger on buying one have been happy so far, but it is an acquired taste.

Not surprised he didn't like the car as everything he's complaining about is convenience-based. Of course the suspension is going to be tight, it's a sporty sedan. I'd take that Ferrari-tuned engine any day over a junker like Chevy or Cadillac.

    The simple takeaway from owning a Maserati of any version is......it will not be the car for everyone. Just like a BMW etc will not press the buttons of others similarly! Ok, so they may perform similar on paper, but to own a Maserati is to appreciate where it comes from! It is Italian, just like its big brothers at Ferrari where they build the Maserati engine at Modena. I own the SQ4 - Europe version 2016 with 440 BHP and I can tell any sceptics out there that this vehicle is truly awesome. I don't get the rattle from the rear nor does my engine hum. I have the 21" Titano wheels and they feel sturdy over mild potholes, but the stark reality is that IF we strip away every single foible with every single vehicle that is made, there would be but a handful that we would all own and where would the joy of driving and being different from the rest then come from? The Maserati brand and the Ghibli in particular is a vehicle for those who want to live a little, not sit behind the wheel of a vehicle that does all the thinking for them. Where is the fun in that??

    This guy seems to forget, this is Maserati's FIRST entry in this segment, pretty damn good first effort I'd say! All it needs is polishing, development and tweaking in places to really become competitive against the best of Germany, Maserati have proven this with it's first ever SUV The Levante which has had rave excellent reviews. One thing is for sure the basics (most important) engine, chassis are first rate and beyond any criticism. Expect it's successor due in a few years to be near perfect and awesome!

    I actually test drove the vehicle and must be in honest in saying that I loved it. This is a wonderful vehicle and found the seats to be super comfortable. The power comes on great. I am now concerned because I now know going forward that I can no longer take car reviews by what they say. Sad but true.

      @gruboption804 Před 9 lety +1

      I've also test driven it. And wasn't blown away by it. The seats are ok but not the greatest. Power delivery is as the reviewer noted. For the asking price you have to be very good. This car is decent but if it was my cash if get something else. If this was closer to a E350 in price now it becomes interesting although I think the safety systems of the Germans are a couple of generations better.

      Maserati has this whole history of exclusive cars with none being sold for less than $100k. This is why it's a big deal. This are not parts from a $20-25k car going into a 40k one like a base A4. These are parts from $15k cars going into an "exclusive" 100k car. Big difference.

      +lecorsaire Thew good thing is that buying a Ghibli is optional, noone has to buy it if they dont like it. The morons can preach all they like about how a Skoda is almost as good as Audi but again, buying a Skoda is optional, and if anyone REALLY think they are getting a rebranded Audi they are in for some serious disappointment.

      +ivanlazarevic78 more like many components of Audi are shared with VW. Compared to Japanese or American counterparts VW feels very upmarket. It's the other way around with the Maserati however.

    I own a Ghibli S4 which I bought last July to replace my Audi A8. Agree with the review in general, but wish he could pronounce the name properly. Some of the parts are on the cheap side (although I've also noticed the Alfa 4c and even some Ferrari's look a bit cheap inside). And it rides fairly stiffly and could use a lot more sound deadening. But I still love it. Particularly when going 70-80 MPH on the interstate and you floor it: it just leaps forward and you'll be seemingly a mile down the road in a few seconds. Amazing. I really enjoyed making my boss turn white when I gave him a test drive. Also, it attracts a crowd everywhere I park it, including recently on Independence Avenue in front of the Smithsonian Institution, where I found a bunch of tourists taking selfies in front of it. (The car is platinum with tan leather and the tan dash caps and door armrests.) Overall, it's way more fun than the A8 was, and I was paying thousands of dollars maintenance for the Audi even though it had only 25,000 miles when I gave it to my sister. When I took delivery in Rochester, NY, and drove it back to VA, I got 28.6 MPG even though averaging 75 MPH. As someone who had ordered the original 2005 Maserati Quattroporte when it came out, but cancelled in favor of the Audi A8 at $50,000 less cost, I'm really pleased with the Ghibli as a somewhat more practical and sporty car than the QP.

    I remember being so stoked about the Ghibli's launch. Unfortunately, a lot of that enthusiasm waned after seeing the car in person and I was left with a very 'meh' feeling after driving it. It's nowhere near as responsive as I thought it would be. I didn't really have any issues with the interior; personally, I think that expecting bespoke switch gear in a car that barely breaks $100K is ludicrous. You have to have reasonable expectations.
    My biggest issues with the Ghibli is its price... and I can't justify the cost for what you get. The Ghibli isn't removed enough from the Quattroporte in terms of performance and it certainly isn't as luxurious. I can't deny that it's an attractive car, but again, the QP looks better to me.
    So the big question is, "why not just work a little harder and get the Quattroporte instead?" Or, find a well kept 2-3 year old QP and spend LESS than a full-spec Ghibli?.

    I got to drive one this weekend and it doesn't feel like a 70k car. Is it a "bad" car ? No, it's nice, but Maserati badge aside, it simply doesn't feel like a car you'd pay that much for.
    The interior has that "using slightly above cheap parts to give the illusion of being high end" feel to it. That was something that really stuck out to me. The seat felt awful and cheap.
    It's price tag puts it in the market against mid-upper range luxury cars, but I'd say overall it feels like a car designed to compete against the entry level nice cars. 3-Series, A4 Audi...etc
    It's a nice car, just not 70k nice. If it was say 40-45k, then I'd say "great car for the money", Maserati is clearly just using that badge to charge double for a Chysler. aka...just like that TC they made back in the day.
