Took up the sport at 66. 72 now and my first traps were presents. 3 Bridger #3 double long springs. I've built a setter but am working to perfect it. (May take a rebuilt)
Anyway, rastling them is more effort than I want now.
This was the perfect info I needed.
Thanks and keep 'em coming. 🙃

Another good video Dale, I’ve been adding to my number 11 DLS traps, they are very versatile. I’ve opted for a larger pan and replaced the twist link with numerous 2 machine chain and an added swivel giving 4 swivel points like you had suggested in a previous video. Can’t wait for the upcoming season. I’ve made a lot of needed modifications hope it pays off.

      Yes
Adding a good swivel is a must. A couple of kind old
      timers taught me that some
years back. Best advice I ever received.

@@maxpinson5002 my k9 sets have 7 swivel points, it’s just something I hadn’t considered for smaller target animals. But I honestly never cared for the twist link chain.

    Good advice.
Just me- I now weld a baseplate on every foot trap
I get that does not have one.
Took me a while to figure out
about the frame flex and how
bad it kicks you in the teeth.
You can buy flat stock at the
    hardware store and cut some
out, or trim some length off
    a commercially offered base
plate and weld it on. I like to
put a small bead on the frame
and cross frame junction as well
    Thanks for the video

Thanks for another great video! I have been leary about getting longspring traps from yard sales but think I'll pick some up and try them this fall, mostly #14's with teeth for beaver. Around here they say that you can't get a better beaver trap.

Another good one! Thanks for the explanation of why I sometimes have trouble setting some of my traps. From the start I’ve just always favored long spring traps, any size. I’ve center swiveled some of them, yea it adds a level of difficulty to setting. But after watching this video, with your reason for staying ol’ school with the chain mount, makes sense. Hadn’t really thought about it that way.
As always thanks for mentoring us, stay safe out there!

Dale, I like seeing you hold that spring down with your leg. I do the same thing when setting my big coil springs for beaver. I have some of the old CDR 7.5 traps that are pretty stout. With the type of setters that really just extends the length of the spring arms, I can set those traps with one hand. With the trap on my right knee tilted a little bit to the left, put the left side setter behind my left knee and then all I have to do is push down with my right hand on the right side setter and that kind of rolls the trap over and depresses both sets of springs at the same time.
