How I Paint Traps.

- Hey Trappers!!! This is just a video going through my trap painting routine. This in my opinion is way easier and less chance of contamination than with traditional methods of dyeing and waxing traps.

I'm reading this as, "There never was anything magical about old school dying and waxing. It was just the best they could do at the time."
And you're absolutely right Ferengiprofiteer. Dyeing and waxing traps is fine if that's what you want to do. But it's very easy to get a contamination with wax. If waxed trap gets contaminated you have to reboil dye and wax it. If a painted trap gets contaminated, I can just wash it off and go again

Good video Dale, I used to paint mine the same way but I got back to boiling them again and dipping in FMJ. I'm retired and I don't have a fraction of the traps you do so the time isn't an issue. Thanks for sharing this Dale.

I started using Rustoleum last season. It sure did work well. Then I waxed them the next day. I use lye to get the wax off. Great video Dale. I haven't watch a video yet of yours that wasnt a help for new or seasoned trapper. 👍🏻
Thank you Chip. I appreciate you watching. But I'm curious as to why you waxed the traps after you painted them?? The idea behind the paint is to get away from waxing. When you wax them you take a chance getting a contamination. The wax will hold foreign odors. I'm not saying you did anything wrong. I'm just curious that's all
Is there no end to this boy's talents? I'll bring a load to Sioux Falls and we can go downtown where you can give me "personal instruction". Those are the cleanest clumps of grass I have ever seen ! LOL. Keep up the "off season" chores for guys as there is ALWAYS something that gets forgotten until October. I have used the small "splits" for beaver for years as you can add an extension or an extra snare for an under ice beaver set (Which I know you gave up a long time ago. LOL. (again)..................................the mike

If they been waxed then you'll have to boil them to get the wax off Midwestern Trapper. But I think you're going to like it once you do it
On turning #1 into #11, can you use the 1's without the uniform square jaw type and add second spring and have them work properly?
You can Mike yes. They set just a little bit wonky but they work just fine.

what do you think about the kbl trap dip ?
Never have used it Dan. All it is , is latex paint I believe. I've tried latex and didn't care for it because it flakes off after a catch too easily. The enamel is a harder more durable paint. Thank you for watching
