@@bludgeon1081 They're cute! I think they were just SO common to run into (esp in caves where you can't avoid pokemon encounters, got lost a lot, and were mandatory to go through), so they became a nuisance and people dislike them bc of that

Is because they are annoying af when you try to get out of a cave and knowing we didn't have a guide or map when pokemon came out well... it's even more annoying.

Yeah... That is when you realized it's not a dragon type. It's Water-Flying type and in gens 1-3 it can't really use it's STAB moves effective(i.e. water is special, gyarados is a physical attacker can't learn a decent flying type move)

I'm more of a squirtle type of person but I do recognise Bulba supremacy (at least in Gen 1). Leech seed was sooooo OP in gen 1. Just do leech seed + toxic and then spam drains. It's a pity it could not learn Wrap, but Razor leaf had decent crit rate back in the day, because it was based on speed and, while -Saurs are not the fastest, they are definitely not the slowest either
@@mothified1676 I only ever got the opportunity to own and play Pokemon Silver (so, gen 2), but I always had a soft spot for Bulbasaur. :3
@@Joana-K well, Gen 1 is not so different but the mechanics of some moves were too OP. I bet you would enjoy it. Some examples are: Special was one stat, meaning it counted for both attack and defense, making Slowbro, who could use Amnesia, the strongest pokemon after Mewtwo, only lacking in speed. Leech seed/toxic + Wrap was infinity stunlock if used by a fast pokemon because the pokemon could not move until the wrap ended and scyther, persian, dugtrio, jolteon and Aerodactyl could always crit with high critical ratio moves because in Gen 1, crit chance scaled with speed. Of course, there were bad moves too (If rage missed then it only had 1/256 chances of successfully hitting and your pokemon could only do that until it faints)

12:03 aside from that explanation, in the anime when ash was against the electric type lider (pikachu vs raichu), ash wins by the excuse that the gym lider evolved raichu too early, not making raichu being able to gain more speed

Yep, to expand on this, John mentioned how venonat looks like butterfree. It might have been intended that venomoth and butterfree were originally meant to be traded evolutions which is why metapod looks like venomoth and venonat looks like butterfree.

My favourite is Houndour/Houndoom. Was really annoyed that they were unobtainable until Kanto. Now I just play modded games to let me catch one early.
