Franc D'Ambrosio was the first Phantom that I ever saw on stage, during the 1994 tour. He was amazing and still is. I'm so glad to see this video, it's one of my favorite programs of Brian's. They're a great combination.
Shit Brian Boitano is a fucking AWESOME ass dude, met and skated with him once. I Was a figure skater sort of. Taking figure skating to help with ice Hockey.. He was hella cool. he really raised the bar in men's figure skating
P E R F E C T O ! Great Video !!! Thanks so much ! Jesus bless you !!! I love Figure Skating so much.. & I love Phantom of the Opera so much.. & WHAT A PERFECT UNBELIEVABLE COMBINATION !!
No other male skater can skate with emotion that Brian Boitano put into his programs. The new guys can do the quads but they don't interpret the music nearly as well.
Brian did an awesome job, as did the singer. His song was done in more of the actual musical version style, where the Phantom is a tenor with that kind of airy song, whereas movie Phantom is made darker and more mysterious (and more sexy). And he didn't make up lyrics. Phantom is one of the musicals that is very organic and dynamic. Minor words and note holds are changed as the musical grows and evolves.I would have preferred to see more Brian and less random clips from the movie.
It should have showed more of Brian. Most of the stage Phantoms are much more effective when you see them in person. I'm rather partial to Franc singing Music of the Night, since I ran into Franc in a bar once, sang for him there, and then he paid for my drinks. But its nice to hear someone other than Michael Crawford sometimes... and Gerard Butler never should have been let anywhere near Phantom of the Opera.
@colinmcphan this guy was the phantom for 6 years and over 2,400 shows. he performed with our choir at my school and trust me he is better, not saying the other two are bad but this guy is better
@sueintexas The "new" skating is all about the jumps, not skating. I find I no longer enjoy watching it. Would rather find Brian and Michelle on you-tube.
Luciano Pavarotti thought differently. He chose Franc to come study with him for a summer in Italy because he was so impressed with his operatic voice in Godfather III. Franc doesn’t just sing the role. He portrays the seductive, haunting, and gentle side of the Phantom in this song and could belt loudly to the back of the theater the more aggressive/passionate side of Phantom. He was mesmerizing in this role in San Francisco for 5 years.

I agree. More Brian would have been better. I was yelling at the TV screen when this aired.
I agree totally

Are you kidding me? Why didn't he go on stage then? Because he can't sing.
