- Listen to the sound of an amazing 202 XU1 race car chew up the field from the back of the grid. Pity it ran out of fuel on the last lap as you will see. The 202 holden shouldn't make sound and power like this.

It's been years since I've heard that sound of a 202 in full flight takes me back to my childhood.
I owned 2 LJ GTR TORANAS , BOTH 202 , AWESOME CARS

That was my last Skope classic in the Mk1 Broadspeed Escort even though I had a300 hp cosworth the Torana took me with ease at the hairpin corner, now retired from competition motor sport but always will love the Skope weekend, also Phil McNabb’s mk2 Zackspeed is no slug same Motor as mine. Great memories.

My first car was a Torana S 173ci 6. What a great car it was, I always wanted an XUI of course.
I'm not sure what i like more. The top of fourth gear or the third to second gear drop downs before throwing it into a corner. Magnificent.
The barras aint got nothing on the 202 sound tuff and quick as fk 😂😂

Could EASILY pull a 5th gear . Years since I have heard a 202 running that hard . Although a fairly basic Lump , they were a GREAT Engine .
Never ever had an aussie 4 speed shifter work that well. 2nd to 3rd and back to 2nd never ever worked that well. Love to know what breed of shifter is used here 😊
how do you get the shifter to line up so good?..no missed gears...yours seems like it has no play as well
We use an American Hurst shifter.. modified for RH drive.

I must admit, that 202 sounds epic. Is this the same Torana I've seen sitting in Dave's garage? If so, and next time you talk to Dave, tell him Rick (G T) say hi. He might remember me, been a few year since I've seen him. Been meaning to catch up

We have taken the big tank out.. too big for sprint racing.. and fitted a stock HB vauxhall Viva fuel tank into the same hole. Identical fit. Holds 35litres !!!

No. has iron 202 block 2nd hand..and Old original Duggan head..a bit porous.. but holding together. Holden M21 box with modified Hurst shifter.. Holden Diff. (Fragile! )

What the heck is "Skope"?
Skope is a NZ heating and refrigeration manufacturer, who have been a long term sponsor.
Why is this XU-1 faster than it should be? It distorts "historic" racing when you get cars that are 50% more powerful than the HDT Toranas ever were. That engine has to be 325bhp at the flywheel. The factory cars were about 225bhp. It's not an XU-1 and that's not the sound of an XU-1. It's a "special" or Group B sports sedan that looks like a touring car.

Ruapuna is such a stupid track, chicanes out of too many corners absolutely spoil the progress of anyone coming thru. Love the helmet salute, i wonder too if it needs a slightly bigger steering wheel. looks like a lot of energy used to muscle the beast around. I was puffing just watching.
