    Worth pointing out “your time is now, your [inside]’s out. Honey how you grew, and if we stick together who knows what we’ll do” Bo took a 5 year break because he was having huge anxiety attacks and started to blackout after his last performance and immediately ran to go puke. There is injected moments where you realise Bo’s fame blossomed on the internet and that this was his reality for a long time. He is a fantastic writer and always think to look deeper with his lyrics. Great vid ❤️

    A little disappointed that none of the reactors I've listened to have, out loud at least, connected the line "Just nod or shake your head and we'll do the rest" as a direct allusion to the all-mighty algorithms that govern what we see on the internet, that you even talk about at the top of the video. I dunno if that's just a me thing or if the concept of algorithms is so embedded in our everyday lives that it just seemed like a casual line, but honestly I thought it was one of the more horrifying lines in the piece. Like even if you don't engage with the system at all (not using likes or dislikes), you still nod or shake your head if you watch the entire video vs ending it halfway through, for example.

    This song is aimed squarely at the "Zoomer" generation, kids born after the new millennium who have been raised in a culture centered around the internet.
    It's from the perspective of those who have an enormous financial stake in encouraging those kids, now young adults, to spend literally all of their time on the internet. No matter what it is you want, the internet is where you should go. Give us your data and let us sell you ads, and never leave. They want to make you think that their intentions are pure, to give you a platform to express all your thoughts and desires, but there's no denying the real motivation is just like any other business, profit. And the way they profit is to get you addicted.

    My favorite part is that when 'the internet' goes to say that it was 'always the plan, to put the world in your hands...', it can't even finish the sentence without laughing. Because, obviously, it's a joke. The world can't go into your hands, because those are busy clicking. The power was never, could never be, yours.

    • @thefairguin
      @thefairguin Před rokem +8

      And yet, without actually giving you any of the power or influence suggested by that phrase, it is still true because you have access to literally the whole world in a cell phone in your hands. The entire world at your fingertips but you are more trapped and enslaved than ever and most of the time the sensory overload renders you completely ignorant of your own ongoing subjugation. It's just 🤌 perfect from every angle.

      .........you.......just.......blew........my...........mind with that Kurt Vonnegut comparison. I love Vonnegut and I have been watching Bo since before he even went truly viral on CZcams and somehow that never occurred to me before. But that is exactly who Bo is, right down to the darkly flippant and irreverent tone he uses. Wow. You just shook my whole perspective up. But in, like, an awesome way.

    • @Qwerty_monke
      @Qwerty_monke Před rokem +2

      It's good to have our perspective shaken up once in awhile and I'm glad my comment had a positive effect for you.
      It's a sign of intellectual maturity to see different perspectives and to even change our own. This is a lesson Vonnegut has taught me thru his use of brilliant satire that tends to soak in a little less funny(or a lot less) than the initial reaction.
      I've no idea who said this and forgive the paraphrasing, but the gist of it is a favorite of mine: "The ability to change your mind means you still have one!"
      I hope you have a wonderful day and a long life with countless blessings!

    The thing that disturbs me the most, the “you” he sings about in the slow part is at most 13 years old today. “Mommy let you use her iPad, you were barely two!”
    The iPad was released in April of 2010. If “Mommy” got one on release date and let her child (barely two at this point) play with it, this kid would be 13 by now. Which gives a whole deeper level to this section.
    How this addictive behavior, that the internet is instigating into its users, is most felt and adopted by our children.
    It’s a wonderful song and I love Bo for always hitting the “Social-Critique-Nail” square on the head.
    And the fact, that he was working in the whole “inside” special, alone without a huge staff of editors, producers, and Regisseur on hand, makes this one even more awe inspiring to me.

    • @Qwertky
      @Qwertky Před 2 lety +35

      The line about how the iPad did exactly what we wanted it to do when we put it in our kid's hand? That one gets me. We asked the Internet to babysit our kids, and now we're shocked at how consumed by it they have grown up to be. What did we really expect?

    15:20 “unstoppable, watchable, the time is now, your Inside’s out, honey how you grew” I think this bit is the most genius honestly. on top of the general “your emotions/what’s inside is now out there for everyone to see” directed at gen z, this is literally what’s happening to Bo as he’s singing and we’re watching the special - his inner thoughts and emotions are now out there. plus since the special is called Inside, I think the internet is speaking to Bo directly and giving a little nod to the fact that, even though the song is satirizing the internet, it’s in a special that’s made entirely for the internet and is going to just end up another part of it, and now bo is being welcomed back after the 5 years he took away from comedy, having grown in that process and that the time is now for him to come back, then going on to give Bo its own personal sales pitch, saying “if we stick together, who knows what we’ll do?”
    Maybe I’m overthinking this, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned about Bo it’s that each part of his specials has multiple layers. Just adds to his insane level of genius

  • @CantDraw-bq6pj
    @CantDraw-bq6pj Před 2 lety +14

    4:50 part of that effect I think is the costuming and camera angles. Bo positions himself to be looking down into the camera at almost all of the angles he uses, making him appear larger and predatory and also seem to be "watching" the viewer, but the dark glasses prevent you from watching him back.

    I think you should do "Can't Handle This (Kanye Rant)" and then "All Eyes on Me". The songs really go into Bo's social anxiety and the stresses of being a performer trying to please an audience and trying to battle depression. One thing I don't think people tend to notice, the warmer, slower light he turns on during the bridge section where he's talking about "you", comes back on at the very end to conclude the song. To me it symbolizes how the internet has effectively assimilated you into it. Bo's a genius, i'm so glad you're reacting to his stuff.
    Some of his best works, in my opinion, are "words, words, words." "rant." (not the kanye one) "eff" "hell of a ride" and "i'm bo yo" they're all solely wordplay; if you were to try breaking down the lyrics to any one of these songs, it'd be a solid 20-minute video. and that is a good thing.
    he's also pretty big on social commentary. songs such as "rant." again, "how the world works" "lower your expectations" "pandering" "repeat stuff" and "art is dead." are really good representations.
    and then, we have the introspective/sad ones. "can't handle this" "nerds" "all eyes on me" "are you happy?" and "nerds"
    he has four specials in total. in order, they are "words, words, words" "what." "MAKE HAPPY" and, of course, "Inside"
    this is just a quick summary to let you know what you were getting into lol, bo is a brilliant mind, always has been ahead of his time. hopefully it helps out 👍🏽👍🏽
