- This prelude evokes a deep sense of despair and sadness. Upon Chopin's request, it was played at his own funeral along with Mozart's Requiem. Today it has become one of Chopin's most widely known preludes.
The whole set of 24 Preludes was first published in 1839 and written between 1935 and 1939 in both Paris and Valldemossa, Mallorca, where Chopin spent the winter of 1838-1839 together with George Sand.
