  • For the past 1,500 years, Limahuli Valley on Kauai has been a green haven, a wilderness preserved to exist just as the native Hawaiians experienced it. It is home to plant life unlike anything found in the rest of the world, with many endangered plants thriving in the valley. The Limahuli Garden and Preserve hopes to continue their conservation efforts so these plants can survive for generations to come. Join director Kawika Winter for a tour of this lush nature preserve.

    Right on.. glad your channel is spreading awareness of our islands and the importance of preserving our Indeginous plants and species that are vital for our aina and moana... Aloha

      @justdecember Před 6 lety +1

      Artari Even the english translation of our Hawaiian motto doesn’t truly capture the nuances of its deeper meaning. The word “ea” can also be the breath of life, spirit, or sovereignty, “pono” can also mean morality, prosperity and so on. Anyways it’s great that people understand our deep reverence for the land and people

      justdecember I feel ya brah...even the film does not even capture how much mana there is through a screen. You gotta be there for your self and appreciate it while there. The only way is by being educated and respecting what is there. It breaks my heart to see that our home is changing. I do not want my Keiki to grow up not having this. Many people don't even care , but nature is part of us. Aloha to you

      Martin Tabanag I hope you can go there one day. I wish and pray to be back home , but in all honesty they push us local people out and bringing up prices so high that transplants from the mainland can afford to live on our islands. Really sad the history , there is more to the picture than just it being paradise. Aloha to you

    I vote to keep the plants! (Or, to be more correct, prevent them from dying out, protect them from wrong doing, and preserve them for the future)

      Also more importantly the Hawaiian language was traditionally passed down orally, not through writing or reading. So in that sense you're literally losing a word (at least in a historical sense). Now that the language is written down its less of a worry but still is detrimental to the wildlife.

    I went there for a day, we stayed past the shops closing time. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been to. Every plant there has a story, and everything has a purpose (conveniently explained and described in the little guide book they give you.) There were a couple plants that were labeled "unknown name" because their names were lost in history... There are mixed emotions to see a living thing in front of you that has been forgotten and then hundreds of years later found again. I don't know it's like there is a magic in the valley that is contagious even though I sound really corny... It's one of the most beautiful places in the world in my opinion, if you like any sort of history or just pure natural beauty you absolutely need to go there.
