Former Rangers Manager, Mark Warburton is our guest this week as he opens up to Si on his eventful period in charge of the Ibrox club as we discuss his opening season which saw him clinch promotion to the Premiership, defeat rivals Celtic in a dramatic penalty shootout and agonisingly lose the Scottish Cup Final to Hibs in the last minute.
Furthermore, Mark goes into the different challenges he faced in his 2nd season when expectations were risen and new faces arrived as he attempted to steer the club back to a competitive level again.
Also plenty of chat from his successful time at Brentford and his pathway into football having taken an unorthodox route after working as a trader in the City for a number of years.

Love these interviews. It doesn’t matter to me who is getting interviewed. As a rangers fan, I even look forward to the ex Celtic players getting interviewed because it’s just good to hear their stories. Keep up the good work Si!

Always loved the way he got Forest playing during his time with us. Arguably a bit one dimensional, especially when the opposition were trying to press us high up the pitch, but the foundations were put in place. Brought through a lot of young players, I’ve got terrific respect for the bloke.

Lovely interview, good chat good questions; happy to sub ...
I would love Mark back at Ibrox park in some capacity, in truth I thought the board were too stressed and impatient and MW was booted rather than Rangers trusting the man and invested in him with big money .
There was no manager so invested in the team, he to me gave his all for RANGERS FC

He's right about the 55 thing. It's a hindrance to us getting there, more than a help. Do the business, then talk. Too many young people get into a rapture too quickly, too easily. Bragging should be done after the fact. A player does a few tricks in a couple of games and suddenly we're signing songs about him. These things need to be earned over time, for genuine achievements, otherwise it doesn't look too hot. Who can remember "We've got....Joey Garner" and not cringe? I like Warbs as a person, but most of his signings didn't work out, he didn't quite handle the media the way Stevie does, and he doesn't have the pulling power Stevie has. A good manager, an intelligent man, and a good brain to have around the club, but - just my opinion - maybe didnt't quite have it in terms of managing a big club. Maybe he moved to Rangers too early.

Really good interview once again. Even as a Celtic fan I feel bad for Warburton given how badly he was treated during the whole sacking/"resigned mess that saw him leave there. When you look at the complete farce that followed with Pedro you have to think that sacking him set them back at least a year

Can say what you like about Warbs but seems a good guy and the quality of football Rangers played under him was brilliant to watch and we haven't seen football like it at Ibrox since, in my opinion, flashes maybe but good football consistently no. Yes one dimensional at times but when it worked it was a fantastic product. High press, quick short passing, pass move, pass move was great to watch and that semi final win against Celtic is one of my best memories as a Rangers fan. Would have liked to have seen what him & Weir would have produced if given the Pedro money.

What brilliant interview. I am so so impressed with Mark. Not only in a professional sense, but more importantly, as a person. No wonder he did fantastically at Brentford, as even a shy/quiet person as me, would run through walls & feel ten feet talk due to his personality & encouragement. He MUST return to football soon & if Alex Neil decides its time to leave my team Preston, there is nobody I would rather have than Mark Warburton to achieve our Premier League dream. All the best Mark :)

As a Celtic fan I'm glad he didn't get the money that Pedro and SG got. He would have spent it far more astutely. He was unfortunate to have faced a Celtic squad playing out of their skins that season.
He comes across as measured, intelligent and a decent guy. I'm guessing his encounter with Jock Wallace helped shape that... :-)
Hope he finds something soon in Fitbaw land

I like Warburton. He comes across well but you just get the impression that he still doesn't understand the mentality of the old firm and the media up here. His heart sank at the 55 banner? What did he expect?? The standards at the club dictate that rangers will always be going for 55 until we get it. The mentality is to win... No matter if that's realistic or not. The exact same at celtic. I don't think he could cope with that no matter how good an actual coach he is

  • @bencb3

Guy wasn’t the guy everyone said said he should have had more time but he never had many players that were hits, Tavernier is the only player left from his time.
All the others were found out
Same happened the Pedro he brought in players that were found wanting only 2 guys are left from his time jack and candeias
Sometimes you got to admit that jobs to big for you and it sounds like he doesn’t think it was but it was, yes Celtic were good that year but it’s not those games that frustrated the fans it’s the doings we took from the teams we should be beating like the hearts,Hamilton’s and such that cause that massive gap in the first place

  • @John-tz2tx
    @John-tz2tx Před 3 lety

He’s missing the point about Going For 55, his heart sank🙄 and stupid prompt from Si.
Being back in the Premiership after the journey we had been on meant we could say Going For 55, whether it was that season or 4 seasons from then as it indeed was. Warburton isn’t always going to be manager and the club will always be aiming for targets.
