    Hi Ted, just spotted this new review and thought I'd give a long-term perspective. I have several pairs of Abisko Lites and they've been my mainstay in anything other than persistent rain for a few years. I agree the strap adjustment at the ankle isn't the best and I've removed the straps from mine as it's such an irritating faff and they can get snagged on tree roots etc too easily. The fit is as close as a trouser gets without becoming a legging but isn't at all restrictive. My main beef over the years has been the tendency to wear quickly at the crotch, as there are are lot of vulnerable seams in that area and the G1000 Lite isn't a particularly durable material either. I don't think this level of fragility is acceptable in such an expensive trouser and it's a poor bit of design to have so many seams wearing each other and themselves out. I've got used to repairing mine in this area on a regular basis but when mine are beyond such repair I'll probably not purchase this model again because of this issue. I'm finding my newer Vidda Pro Ventilated aren't excessively hot in warmer weather and the materials and construction promise better durability so eventually I'll default to those, I think.

      @TedWeirum  Před 3 lety +2

      appreciate your input brother! as you know, I agree with the straps at the bottom! I haven't seen any wear and tear around the crotch on mine as of yet, but it's a good point, I hope they can have a closer look at that!

      One of the reasons I chose the Abisko Midsummer trousers over the Abisko Lites was that cinch at the ankle. The Midsummers use an elastic shock cord which I preferred. However, they also _do not_ have the boot lace hook, which I really like. Damned if you do, damned if you don't in this case. I found the Midsummer's to be nice and light, but the durability isn't there. Juuust right though, on a day where everyone has shorts on, but you want to keep the branches and bugs off your skin.

      I use Fjallraven trousers for 10 years now. So I can compare a bit the evolution over those 10 years. My latest trousers were G100 with two removable parts. I have to be honest I wear them almost everyday. What I did see is that the quality of the fiber 10 years ago was more durable than the G1000 fiber. I think Fjallraven quality has been decreasing over the years with more focus on design. I think they need to get that balance better in control.

    • @NewcastleMatt
      @NewcastleMatt Před 11 měsíci +1

      @danceswithbadgers if your crotch area repeatedly breaks, do you happen to have a leg length discrepancy? That causes holes in the crotch area. I'm an expert in this particular field.

    • @danceswithbadgers
      @danceswithbadgers Před 11 měsíci

      @@NewcastleMatt I'm not aware of any discrepancy. Just trying to judge this by sitting on the floor with my legs straight my ankle bones seem to align perfectly. I don't get, nor have I ever experienced, this kind of wear with stretch-woven softshell trousers. I really think it's the combination of the material and poorly placed, constructed seams.
      Edit: I've had even more catastrophic wear with the heavier Vidda Pro Ventilated trousers than the Abisko Lites. A few months in and they were effectively useless.

    I have a pair of these pants and I wish the vent zippers zipped from bottom to top instead of top to bottom. Nobody wants to see the top of my thigh. Also wish all Fjallraven pants had one rear pocket. They are well made but these additions would make them more useful.

    Funny, I have the Abisko midsummer trekking trousers, and they don't include a gear loop. My Vidda Pros don't have the gear loop. My Abisko shorts don't have a gear loop. Oddly enough, the one bottoms from FR that _do_ have the gear loop for me are the Abisko Lite shorts, which I use for casual, non-hiking use. Ever more strange is their webpages shows pictures of the Abisko Lite shorts without the gear loop. So confusing!

    • @TedWeirum

    • @GetUpTheMountains
      @GetUpTheMountains Před 2 lety

      @@TedWeirum Sorry for the confusion, Ted. My comment was more about FR's strange and seemingly arbitrary choices when deciding whether or not to include a gear loop on their trousers. All my products have been received as advertised, there is just no reason to not include a gear loop on several products being sold as trekking clothes.

    I bought these but for me the crotch seam on the front (where it connects to the stretchy material that gussets the crotch) becomes tight everytime I stretch out my legs. Rather than putting the tension on the elastic it puts it on top of the seam. @TedWeirum does that happen to you too? I have them sitting right in between the upper and mid hip-bone area like normal pants so I have no idea if this is just a me problem. I just cant seem to get the full effect of the elastic, Great pants otherwise.
