Second time watching and I just caught that! How can they get such an important fact so wrong?!
Toyota has been using a planetary-gear-based "E-CVT" for years now!
And I'm pretty sure the that, by definition, you can't have "real" separate gears in a _Continuously Variable Transmission._ The most they can do is program the car to simulate gears in the sportier driving mode.

If not, it's possible Toyota may not have thought they'd generate enough sales to bring it over... although it's a bit of a "chicken and egg" situation: if Toyota don't make this style of vehicle available, how will they know how much of a market there is for it?
